Get garbage/recycling day reminders. Look up how to dispose of items like bat teries, paint, furniture, etc.

The registration fee is $40 for Kannapolis residents and $60 for non-residents. This includes the cost of uniforms, practices and games. Participants are required to have proper athletic shoes. Scholarships and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Practices will begin the week of December 4, and games will begin the week of January 6. Practices and games will primarily take place in Kannapolis City School gym facilities.

Our police and fire department staff as well as other community partners look forward to meeting and interacting with everyone.

The event will be held at a new location this year, Kannapolis City Hall & Police Headquarters, in the horseshoe and is free to the Kannapolis community.

Join Us for the Fire Truck Parade, Food Drive and Bloodmobile on October 13 The Kannapolis Fire Department will host a Fire Truck Parade, Food Drive and bloodmobile event on Friday, October 13. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and proceed along Laureate Way and N. Research Campus Drive, between City Hall and the N.C. Research Campus. Bring a chair and enjoy seeing fire trucks – old and new – from departments throughout the region.

Meet our firefighters as you drop off a canned food donation from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Firefighters will be at the fire trucks, which will be located at Kannapolis City Hall, 401 Laureate Way. Items that are needed most are canned meats, peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, canned fruit, pork-n-beans and pudding cups. All items will be taken to Cooperative Christian Mission to distribute locally to those in need.

One Blood will have the Big Red Bus at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for anyone who would like to give a blood donation. To make an appointment to give blood, register here – https://donor.oneblood.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/1394778.

Kannapolis Police Begins Park Ranger Program The Kannapolis Police Department has launched a park ranger program. Park ranger personnel are specifically assigned to the City’s parks and greenways. They are nonsworn members of the Police Department who will be able to assist patrons of Kannapolis park facilities who have nonemergencies. If there is an emergency situation while they are on patrol, they will quickly request necessary help.

“Our parks and greenways are some of our most frequented places in the City.

Thousands of people visit our recreational facilities each week, whether it is the splash pad at Atrium Health Ballpark or a concert at Village Park. The park rangers program gives us an additional presence at these facilities to assist anyone who needs help, take incident reports or to answer routine questions that we receive,” said Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry.

Get Your Mystery Theater Tickets Mark your calendars for an exciting Mystery Theater performance at 6:30 p.m., November 3, at the Laureate Center.

On the 18th tee of the Porous Pines Country Club, regional Golf Champ, Holin Wunn, met his demise. The gallery was shocked when he collapsed in the middle of his backswing during the match of the sexes between female golf pro, Birdie Bigelow, and male golf champ, Holin Wunn.

Now it’s necessary to not putter around, and trap the killer with a stroke of investigative genius. You will become one of the investigators and work with the Detective and Charlotte Murder Mystery Company to figure out “WHODUNIT!”

On Saturday, October 14, from 9 a.m. until noon, the Kannapolis Transportation and Environmental Services Department will host a free document shredding event at the Public Works Operation Center, at 1401 Bethpage Road.

This event is for Kannapolis residents only. Document shredding is limited to five file boxes per person, which is the equivalent of two 40-gallon trash bags. No businesses please.

Farmers Market Ending Soon The Farmers Market is held from 4-7 p.m. every Thursday at the corner of Vance Street and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. The last Farmers Market of the 2023 season is September 28.

Jordan Young and Sydney Hunsucker are the first two park rangers. They have completed a four-week field training period and are working closely with patrol officers to further train for their responsibilities.

The Toast of Kannapolis returns this year, 6-9 p.m., on September 22, at Kannapolis City Hall. A number of local wineries and breweries will share samples of their best selections.

Admission is free, but tickets will be for sale in advance and at the door for beer and wine samplings, which includes a souvenir wine or beer sampling glass – $20 in advance/$25 at the door. You must be 21-plus years old to attend this event.

Tickets are $25 per person. The show is rated PG-13 and is recommended for adults and mature teens. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The buffet will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m.
