he Kannapolis Fire Department will host the Fire Truck Parade and the Kannapolis Fire Prevention Festival, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., on Saturday, October 1. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed along Laureate Way and N. Research Campus Drive, between City Hall and the North Carolina Research Campus. Immediately following the fire truck parade, join us for the Children’s Fire Costume Contest at 12 p.m. in front of City Hall. Kids aged 12 and under are encouraged to dress in a fire-related costume. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Original, Most Similar to Kannapolis Fire Department and Chief’s Choice Award. Registration is not required. This year’s Fire Prevention Festival theme is “Fire Won’t Wait – Plan Your Escape,” with the focus on fire prevention, working home smoke alarms and planning your home escape route. This free family event continues to grow each year with lots of activities and fun for all. During the festival there will be music, emergency vehicles, helicopters, a kids’ firefighter challenge course, inflatable games, lots of fun activities and vendors.

Congratulations to Pam Phifer on her retirement after 34 years of dedicated service to the City of Kannapolis. Pam has worked in multiple positions for the City, including as a water meter reader, administrative assistant for public works, and water meter technician. She currently serves as a customer service advocate. Through these positions she has become a fixture in the City. Pam will be missed and we wish her well as she begins her retirement life!
Free Shred Event Set On Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. until noon, the Kannapolis Transportation and Environmental Services Department will host a free document shredding event at the Public Works Operation Center, at 1401 Bethpage Road.

Run Kannapolis 5K Series Fall Schedule is Here There are only two more Fall Run Kannapolis 5Ks. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this unique series featuring the best 5K runs/walks in the City. Each run is held in Kannapolis and hosted by a nonprofit that benefits from the entry fees. All of the runs will include a one-mile fun run. The runs are at 9 a.m. on Saturdays this Fall. Join the thousands of people who have participated in Run
Kannapolis over the years. Run Kannapolis is part of the City of Kannapolis’ Discover a Healthy Life brand and cosponsored by Atrium Health. Farmers market Ends Soon
The Farmers Market is held from 4-7 p.m. every Thursday at the corner of Vance Street and Dale Earnhardt Blvd. The last Farmers Market of the 2022 season is September 29. This is the last chance to purchase fresh, local produce, as well as meat, eggs, spices, crafts, and prepared foods and sauces.

Youth Basketball Starts Soon The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for Youth Basketball for children 3 –15 years old. Registration is from September 12 – November 6. The registration fee is $40 for Kannapolis residents and $60 for non-residents. This includes the cost of uniforms, practices and games. Participants are required to have proper athletic shoes. Scholarships and sponsorship opportunities are available. Practices begin December 5. Teams will have one practice per week beginning the week of January 4. Games begin January 7 and will end February 25. Practices and games will primarily take place in Kannapolis City School gym facilities. Toast of Kannapolis Returns The Toast of Kannapolis returns this year, 6 – 9 p.m., on September 23, at Kannapolis City Hall. A number of local wineries and breweries will share samples of their best selections. Admission is free but tickets will be for sale in advance and at the door for beer and wine samplings, which includes a souvenir wine or beer sampling glass. Tickets are $20 in advance/$25 at the door. Local wine, beer and handmade crafts will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased online (kannapolisnc.gov/parksprograms) or at the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department – 3rd floor at City Hall.
