City Uses Technology to Streamline Permitting Process

T

he City of Kannapolis has joined Cabarrus County and the City of Concord to make the process of submitting permits easier – both for residents and developers. We are now using an online system called Accela to process all plans. You can go online and submit all the paperwork we need for your project.

Each run is held in Downtown Kannapolis and hosted by a nonprofit in the City who benefits from the entry fees. Register at runkannapolis.com.

You can perform with The Flow Circus, which will have their interactive play station with skill toys from around the world, such as flower sticks, Japanese kendama, spinning plates, yo-yos, tops, hand sacks, juggling toys and more.

The Kaleidoscope Arts & Ag Festival returns, 12-4 p.m., Saturday, October 19, with new activities. The free event will be held on the North Carolina Research Campus Lawn, adjacent to Kannapolis City Hall, 401 Laureate Way. As part of the Rowan Arts & Ag series, the event will feature more than 70 local artisans, such as painters, jewelry makers and woodcarvers, who will help us celebrate the rich culture of agriculture with local breweries, wineries and goods from local farmers. Get an early start on your holiday shopping.

The Kannapolis Police Department welcomes three new police officers: Sathina Guard, Taylor Honeycutt and Lucas Kincaid. They have completed their basic law enforcement training and will now be assigned patrol units to complete their field training.

Tips for Loose Leaf Collection Beginning October 21 Beginning October 21 and running until March 6, 2020, the City will collect loose leaves left at your curb. At all other times of the year leaves must be bagged. A few things to remember: Leaves must be placed at the curb or along the ditch line – not in the ditch – in rows parallel with the street. Please do not put leaves on the sidewalk.

• Place leaves at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection to ensure collection on that day. To find out what your leaf collection day is, visit kannapolisnc.gov/looseleaf.

• Leaves mixed with limbs, other yard waste, gum balls, gravel, glass or other solid matter will not be collected. These items tear up our equipment, thus delaying everyone’s collection.

• All other yard debris must be bagged and placed far away enough from the loose leaves and/or carts so everything can be picked up with the proper equipment. Yard waste should be bagged all year, with the exception of bushes and limbs and, of course, loose leaves during the loose leaf collection season. Leaves in garbage containers will not be collected.

Officer Guard is a graduate of Mooresville High School Officers Taylor Honeycutt, Sathina Guard and Lucas Kincaid and has certifications in nursing and as an EMT. Officer Honeycutt is a graduate of West Stanly High School. Officer Kincaid is a graduate of South Rowan High School and has an associates degree in exercise science from Rowan Cabarrus Community College.

City of Kannapolis Receives Safety Awards The City of Kannapolis has been recognized by the North Carolina Department of Labor for maintaining a safe and healthful workplace in 2018.

The statewide program includes more than 5,000 North Carolina firms, and about 3,000 awards are presented each year. In order to qualify for an award, businesses must have no fatalities and an injury incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for their industry.

• Please remember, leaves often make their way to storm drains. Check the drains in your neighborhood, and help the City keep them clean by unclogging them from leaves and litter to prevent flooding.
