Fire Department Introduces Community Connect

T

he Kannapolis Fire Department encourages the public to sign up for the new Community Connect Program. This free program allows residents and business owners to share valuable information that may be needed by firefighters in the case of an emergency. The public can register their information online.

Residents can provide details about their home, family members, pets, medical needs and more. If there is an emergency call to the home, firefighters will be able to access the information as they are on their way to the scene enabling them to be better prepared to assist.

For example, you register your home located at 123 Main Street and give us the information that your elderly handicapped mom is typically in the back bedroom with two pets. Upon arrival, firefighters will be able to access if everyone is out of the house or if they need to immediately access the back bedroom.

Congrats!

Congratulations to Patsy Harrison on her retirement after 13 years of service to the City of Kannapolis.

She has worked as an executive administrative assistant in the Fire Department since 2009. In addition to her official work duties, Patsy has been the “mom” of the department, ensuring everyone meets deadlines, fire staff is fed and cared for, aiding the public with their questions and all the other miscellaneous things needed to help run a fire department. Patsy will be missed and we wish her well as she begins her retirement!

Business owners can provide similar information about their location.

The opportunity to sign up for Community Connect is free and your information is valid for a six months.

Every six months you will receive email notifications asking you to update the information or you will be removed from the database. This ensures the information is current in case you move, your family or business status changes, and so forth.

Community Connect is a secure platform and information the public provides will only be used for the purpose of providing assistance during emergency situations.

Holiday Market Returns to Kannapolis This November Make plans to visit the Kannapolis Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 25-27 at the Laureate Center, 401 Laureate Way. The Holiday Market is free to the public.

Kannapolis Welcomes New Police Officers The Kannapolis Police Department welcomes seven new officers: Evan Anderson, James Mead, Samantha Pettit, Austin Purser, Devin Steele, Ataurus Tennyson and Jason Whitley.

They look forward to meeting you as they begin their new duties.

Local vendors and artists will have plenty of holiday goodies to purchase.

There will be a variety of handmade, homemade goods sold by small businesses. Whether you’re picking up some last-minute stocking stuffers or starting at the top of your list, the market will have something for everyone.

Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

Environmental Tip

Please check the stormwater drains in your neighborhood.

Help us keep water flowing properly by cleaning them out if you see any stopped up with debris, which prevents flooding.

Loose-leaf Collection Begins Loose- leaf collection will begin October 31 and will end March 3. After March 3, we request that you bag any loose leaves you have and place them at the curb for yard waste collection.

During the Loose-Leaf Season, there will not be loose-leaf collection on the following holidays observed by the City: • Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11) • Thanksgiving (Nov. 24 and 25) • Christmas (Dec. 22, 23 and 26) • New Year’s Day (Jan. 2) • Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 16).

Loose-Leaf Collection Do’s & Don’ts: • Leaves must be placed at the curb or along the ditch line – not in ditches – in rows parallel with the street.

• Place leaves at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.

• Leaves mixed with limbs, other yard waste, gum balls, gravel, glass or other solid matter will not be collected.

• Leaves in garbage containers will not be collected.

• Leaves must be clear of water meters and fences and placed on the street side of retaining walls.

• Leaves must be clear of sidewalks/street.
