Kannapolis 2019 Summer Concerts and Events Announced Prosperity Ridge Independent Senior Living Apartments is a joint venture between Wesley Community Development and Prosperity Unlimited Inc. The City of Kannapolis, City of Concord Government and Cabarrus County Government are providing funding from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).

The Brian Burton Trio, Toni Tupponce Trio, Andre Ferreri and Dawn Anthony, and the Buff Dillard Music Quartet will bring the wonderful relaxing sounds of jazz to Veterans Park.

Jiggy with the Piggy Festival is May 2-5. The festival features more than 60 barbeque teams competing in a competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.

This event will feature local artisans such as painters, jewelry makers and woodcarvers. We will celebrate the rich culture of agriculture with local breweries, wineries and goods from farmers.

Join Us for Opening of Fire Station #2 and #3 Join us on June 21 as we celebrate the opening of two new fire stations.

The Kannapolis Fire Department invites you to the opening ceremony at Station #3, located at 1703 Concord Lake Road, 10 a.m., on June 21. Following the ceremony, you are welcome to tour Station #3 and then travel to Station #2, located at 817 Richard Avenue, for a tour. We hope you will take this opportunity to meet firefighters and receive fire safety information.

Construction on these two stations began in May 2018. Fire Station #3 is relocating from Florida Avenue due to the fact that a larger station could not fit on the current lot. The new site is more centrally located, will allow for quicker response times to a larger area of the city, and is in a commercial area versus the residential neighborhood where it was.

Fire Station #2 remains at its current location on Richard Avenue. The old station was demolished and the new station constructed in its place.

VIDA Breaks Ground Officials from the City of Kannapolis and the Lansing Melbourne Group (LMG) have broken ground on a mixed-use district that will bring apartments, a hotel, restaurants, a brewery and retail space to downtown Kannapolis.

The project, known as VIDA, will be constructed between Main Street and West Avenue on two blocks of property including the location of the former State Employees Credit Union. The four-acre site will incorporate and preserve the historic Cabarrus Bank Building as the lobby for the 125-room hotel that will break ground in the fourth quarter of this year.

Formerly referred to as the Demonstration Project, this publicprivate partnership between the City and LMG will serve as a stimulus for additional private investment in the downtown core.

LMG will invest $61 million to construct 286 apartments, 18,000 square feet of new retail and renovate 36,000 square feet of historic retail space, plus the new hotel. The City’s investment will include a 400-space public parking deck. The project will open in Spring 2021.

Additionally, VIDA is one of the first opportunity zone projects in the United States. Downtown Kannapolis was designated as a federal Opportunity Zone last year after Kannapolis City Council voted to apply for the process. This designation provides tax benefits to private investors who invest in properties and areas that need to be revitalized.
