K

annapolis City Council has approved the Fiscal Year 2018 budget, which totals $68,125,000 and includes all seven operating funds of the City. The budget includes no property tax increase. The current tax rate will remain at .63 cents per $100 valuation – a home valued at $150,000 will pay $945 annually in property taxes for all City services. The budget calls for an increase in water/sewer rates and stormwater fees of a combined increase of $4.45 monthly. These increases have been planned for years to accommodate the downtown infrastructure project and water and sewer expansion in the western part of the city. The City’s budget is composed of two primary revenue sources: property taxes and sales taxes. The City’s population is expected to be 47,000 by the end of this year – an 11% increase since 2010. This population growth, largely the result of new residential development, equates to an increase of $829,700 in property tax revenues in the FY 2018 Continued on page 2
