Why Does Kannapolis Fire Respond to Medical Calls?
ou may have dialed 911 for a medical emergency or observed fire trucks responding to a person who has a health crisis and wondered why firefighters are responding when there is no fire. All Kannapolis Firefighters are certified as both N.C. Firefighter and N.C. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This means when you dial 911 for a medical emergency, firefighters can respond quickly. This is especially helpful as fire personnel are strategically located around the city. We are especially proud to have the skills and equipment needed if you are having a cardiac emergency such as AEDs (automatic external defibrillators) on all of our fire trucks. Studies have shown a quick response to cardiac incidents results in a higher chance for survival. We work closely with Cabarrus and Rowan County EMS agencies who also respond to medical emergencies to provide additional advanced care and ambulance services.
