Fireworks are often used to mark special occasions, particularly during the summer months. However, fireworks are not very safe and can cause dangerous injuries to you and your family.

JUNE 1 Concert in the Park: Sawyer Brown | fireworks | 7-10 p.m.

Village Park

Each year, thousands of burns and eye injuries are caused by fireworks. Even firecrackers and sparklers can be dangerous. Sparklers burn around 1200ºF (glass melts at 900ºF) and account for more than 25 percent of emergency room fireworks injuries. Keep your family safe this summer by leaving fireworks displays to the professionals.

ay to go, Kannapolis! You deserve a round of applause! You are helping the environment tremendously by recycling tons and tons of materials each month!

The City collects garbage and recycling from almost 19,000 homes and small businesses.

For the last two years, 75.24 percent of those homes and small businesses recycled 1,621 tons each month. This is the equivalent of 190 school buses full of recyclable materials.

Most grocery and retail stores have plastic bag recycling programs. Reusable tote bags are a great option and are available at any store versus using plastic bags.

KANNAPOLIS FARMERS MARKET

Citizens Graduate from Police and Fire Academies A number of City of Kannapolis residents have graduated from the police and fire academies. Held separately, each academy concentrates on the services and functions of the Kannapolis Police and Fire Departments, and provides citizens with a better understanding of what it takes to work daily as a firefighter or police officer.

Citizens participating in the free 10-week fire academy toured fire stations, learned the history of fire service, fire prevention, education and investigation, emergency driving, rescue operations and more.

On May 4, children raced zucchinis in the Kids Zone at the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival.

Competitors worked diligently and used their imaginations to create the fastest and most nutritious cars with the supplies of vegetables provided to them.

Winners took home great prize packages from the 600 Festival and the Cabarrus Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Most sewer spills are the result of flushable items clogging the system. Flushing these items may block sewer pipes, causing untreated wastewater to back up into your home and nearby waterways. Sewer systems force wastewater through pipes, but “flushable” items do not have enough time to break down between being flushed and entering the system. The most common items found in a blockage: Baby Wipes • Feminine Products • Fats/Oils/Grease • Towels/Sheets • Paper Towels • Thick Toilet Paper
