Jiggy with the Piggy BBQ Competition Results Are In

The Smokehouse Mafia from Taylorsville, NC, was named the Grand Champion of the event and won $1,500. The Reserve Champion was Wolf’s Revenge BBQ from Henrico, VA,and they took home $1,000. The highest finish for a Cabarrus/Rowan County team was Rockwell’s Smokehouse BBQ.

The City collects garbage and recycling collection in the city from 16,000 homes and small businesses. For the last two years 75% of those homes and small businesses recycled 2,562 tons each month. This is the equivalent of 170 school buses full of recyclable materials.

NCCER offers industry-recognized credentials for the construction and maintenance industries.

N.C. 3 Widening Underway The N.C. 3 widening project by NCDOT is underway. The contractor is clearing trees and shrubs from the new right-of-way and is installing soilerosion control measures.

Utility crews are now working between Bethpage Road and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard on relocating utilities. There will be intermittent lane closures from now until the project is completed in late 2020.

After losing 135 pounds, Steve strives to live healthy in all aspects of his life.

His 2018 goals are to run three half marathons, attempt his first full marathon, continue to teach Yoga, run as many Run

Steve Yost, 45, participated in the 2016 Duke Dash 5K after he expressed interest to Ali Farabee, his former health coach, that one of his goals was to run a 5K since he had never run one before.

After he crossed the finish line, he wanted to keep going so he ran all eight Run Kannapolis 5Ks in 2017, which earned him the Beast Status title.

Being part of Run Kannapolis has allowed Steve to meet more people and connect with others who have a passion for running. He sees familiar faces at various races in the region, which has led to additional friendships.

City Gets its Newest Water Tank The City’s newest water tank is under construction off N.C. 3 near Odell School Road. The tank will hold 500,000 gallons of water and is 143 feet tall.

The water tank will increase water pressure to homes, businesses and fire hydrants for the entire area west of Lake Howell, Jim Johnson Road and east of the Mecklenburg/ Cabarrus County border up to N.C. 3.

This area is the fastest growing segment of the city. The tank is expected to be operational this month.

“Run Kannapolis has provided a great outlet to put my training to the test. Once I’ve registered for a race, I feel the extra motivation to get out and train more.

There’s always a chance of placing. I also have to pay special attention to my diet and weight. It helps me make healthier choices at mealtimes knowing that I want to go out and run my best.”

When Steve was asked what he would tell someone who is hesitant to get involved in Loop the Loop or Run Kannapolis, he said, “Sign up today. Whether you walk or run, you have nothing to lose! There’s just something special about putting the body and mind in motion. It may even change your life!”
