(107b22070) BUKURU ANITHA Actually, according to my understanding from this lecture on the deployment of Shalun smart green energy science city the most important developing strategy is that every individual living in DaWulun community should have responsibility and be involved in this action of fighting against climate change by establishing smart green energy science city but mostly based on the creation of an innovative green energy industrial ecosystem and involving green energy technology which can be supported by every community member in order to make this goal achievable. Finally, the responsibility of every individual is firstly a clue strategy to the development of this system in connection with this innovative green energy industrial ecosystem and involvement of green energy technology. (107b22089) NIYOMWUNGERE EDYSSA Shalun is one of the village which are in Tainan ,and due to the climate change issues and the rapid consumption of fossil fuels, the government have taken a plan to build a very good smart city using a system integration of energy. the mission makes government to develop Shalun green energy science city is to build a very nice smart ecosystem city that co-

develops with nature, as well as to build up people-oriented community and the necessary green life system. The office coordinates the promotion of science city by linking the regional constructions of Shalun Green Energy Science City from the ministry of economic affairs, ministry of science and technology Academic Sinica, and Tainan city government. In my vision DaWuLun community has a vary important developing during the nearby development of Shalun smart green energy science city because these villages might get many opportunity through to nearby of that green energy build. the most important developing of DaWuLun is the scope of Shalun green energy science city includes: 1. Joint research center for green energy technologies: many

people come for research in the place with the purpose of driving industry innovation, bridging research outcomes from academia into industrialized technologies as well as developing new products system, or services. 2. Green energy technology demonstration site like to serve as an

environment for green energy technology development and application. 3. Southern campus of Academia Sinica: due to the convenience

of location, the southern campus will combine the research environment and resources of industry. 4. Shalun smart, green and circular economic residential park: it will

be planned and build by Taiwan sugar corporation. 5. Multifunction conference and exhibition center: it will boost the

competitiveness of local industry effectively enhances domestic

and foreign industry exchange and interaction and thereby market the local industry. Therefore, Shalun green smart city has really very important to be built in this community even in this country.

(107b22098) KABURA DEOGRATIAS The Shalun smart green Energy science city will facilitate service and technology verification to Dawulung community as the objective of developing Shalun green energy science city is to build a smart ecosystem city that co-develops with nature, as well as to build up people -oriented, community and the necessary green life system so Dawulung community it will the first of getting these opportunities as this green smart energy smart city located in the Dawulung community. In addition the Shalun smart Energy science city will create a green economy and promote environmental sustainability to Dawulung community without forgetting many visitors will come in this community caused by the Shalun smart green energy science city. Finally I hope that Dawulung community will be the first to get this green energy from Shalun green energy science City then the establishment of interactive platform for industry exchange at the multifunction conference and exhibition center will boost the competitiveness of local industry ,effectively enhances domestic and foreign industry exchange and interaction, and thereby market the local industries.

( 107b22106) NDAYISHIMIYE ELIAS It was on October 27, 2016 when the Executive Yuan officially approved and announced the plan of establishing Shalun Green Energy Science City in Tainan. This area has been chosen due to its surface which is plane, not mountainous. The sun is more enough to get easily solar power. The objective of building this site is to promote the green energy not only in Taiwan but also in the whole world. DaWuLu are three communities nearby Shalun Green Energy Science City. These communities are: Datan Community, Wudong Community, Shalun Community. Then, the establishment of interactive platform for industry exchange at the Multifunction Conference and Exhibition Centre will boost the competitiveness of local industry, effectively enhances domestic and foreign industry exchange and interaction, and thereby market

the

local

industries.

Tainan’s

overall

industry

competitiveness will be improved with international publicity, which will further attract more suppliers to invest in southern Taiwan. Meanwhile, the industries located in those three communities will be the first beneficial for that developing strategy. This is the best strategy also for the whole Taiwan because green energy (renewable energy) is going to be promoted in order to reduce using nuclear power which is harmful to the environment. The sustainable environment will then be implemented.

(107b22115) NGENDAKURIYO LEONIDAS The establishment of interactive platform for industry exchange at the multifunction conference and exhibition center will boost the competitiveness of local industry, effectively enhances domestic and foreign industry exchange and interaction, and thereby market the local industries. Tainan’s overall industry competitiveness will be improved with international publicity, which will further attract more suppliers.to invest in southern Taiwan.

107b22150) MASSAO ANGELBETTER MARSELIAN Shalun green energy smart city is the developing strategy of DaWuLun community (Datan, Wudong & Shalun) that was announced officially by executive on 2016 October and established November. The main objective is to build ecosystem city that develops with nature, as well as to build up people-oriented community and the necessary green life. The project has divided into different sectors which re s follows 1. Joint research center for green energy technologies which

has the aim of driving industry innovation, bringing research outcome from academia into industrialized technology s well s developing new products, system, or services for green strategy 2. Green energy technology demonstration site which will offer

field for green technology on testing and verification and matching for domestic and international green industry

3. Southern campus of Academia Sinica of which due to easy

transportation will combine academic exchange in different places international and local. 4. Shalun smart, green and circular economic residential park,

the park will be planned and built by Taiwan sugar cooperation which will consider green energy, building, intelligence and circular economy. 5. Multifunction conference and exhibitions center, aim to

boost the competitiveness of local industry effectively enhances domestic and foreign industry exchange and interaction internationally which will attract more supplies to invest in southern Taiwan. This is the major project that ongoing in the DaWuLun community which has different funders but mainly the government.

(107b22169) BUHOMBE BARNABA ALANUS Shalun smart green energy city is basically dealing on the Joint Research Center for Green Energy Technologies, Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site Multifunction Convention and Exhibition Center , Southern Campus of Academia Sinica and the peripheral living and residential areas near HSR Tainan Station. Actually DaWuLun community is the community which is the combination of three community, that are Datan, Wudong and Shalun.

The community is the part of the project where by the community is dedicated as the peripheral living and residential areas near HSR Tainan Station. Where by the most important developing strategy for DaWuLun community is; Green building and build smart green energy circulation residential park different from conventional ideas. Including the community in all terms of green energy and sustainable use of resources through conducting different workshops and seminars that will raise awareness to the community member from DaWuLun community for the sustainable use of resources. Innovation of green economy is also the most strategy for developing the community. And promotion of environmental sustainability to the community is one among of the best strategy for developing the community Generally all the sustainable strategy above will help the community development sustainably.

107b22178) SULTAN BASMA ABDULLA Since the establishment of SGESC, the communities around will be benefited due to the relationship between what they do as their normal and economic activities and what is being designed in the upcoming smart city. The most important developing strategy for DaWuLun community during the development of SGESC is to create a room for local farmers to improve their products and

transform themselves to a community of free carbon emissions towards the consumption of green energy which might not only improve residential areas (people oriented community) and development of new products but also bring about circular economy since most of the villagers are farmers possessing paddy fields, fruits and vegetable farms. Besides, SGESC has different zones designed to perform different functions therefore through joint research and industrial innovations it will provide a good opportunity to students belonging in these three villages from elementary schools to university levels to come up with better and recognized innovations in Taiwan and even around the world. In addition to that, providing better education and employment opportunities to the people living nearby, example through THSR Academic Research Village. In conclusion, social and economic development is achieved due to the presence of better technologies aiming at positive and sustainable impacts done by improved local industrial structures and styles as well as efforts and cooperation between communities focusing on the same goal.

107b22187) MKHONTFO FEZILE BETHUSILE On October 27, 2016 the Executive Yuan officially approved and announced the plan of establishing Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City in Tainan. Moreover, the Shalun Smart Green Energy

Science City Office established on November 6. The scope of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City includes the Joint Research Center for Green Energy Technologies, Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site (Core Zone: C, D and X), Multifunction Convention and Exhibition Center , Southern Campus of Academia Sinica and the peripheral living and residential areas near HSR Tainan Station. Objectives The objective of developing Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City is to build a smart ecosystem city that co-develops with nature, as well as to build up “people- oriented community and the necessary green life system. The Office coordinates the promotion of the science city by linking

the

regional

constructions

of

Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Academia Sinica, and Tainan City Government etc. into a low-carbon smart city. Such coordination will attract personnel in green energy technology in Taiwan or abroad. Some zones are planned to build test fields for developing low-carbon smart related technology. The

most

important

developing

strategy

for

DaWuLun

Community (Datan Village, Wudong Village, Shalun Village) during the nearby development of

Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City. There is

quite a lot of development strategies that can be experienced by DaWuLung.

JOINT

RESEARCH

CENTER

FOR

GREEN

ENERGY

TECHNOLOGIES Joint Research Center for Green Energy Technologies is the hub for Shalun Green Energy Science City with the purpose of driving industry innovation, bridging research outcomes from academia into industrialized technologies, as well as developing new products, systems, or services for green energy. The center will also support the development of green energy business in DaWuLung through linking technologies, talents and finances by converting the research outcomes into the green smart energy economy with sustainable environment. GREEN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION SITE The purpose of the green energy technology demonstration site is to serve as an environment for green energy technology development and application. It will offer a complete field for green energy technology on testing and verification, and matching for domestic and international green energy industries in this site. The actual experience of users at the experience house will be adopted as a reference for promoting green energy technology and products, narrow the gap between the user and industry. SOUTH CAMPUS OF ACADEMIA SINICA Southern campus of Academia Sinica was proposed in 2012 and chose to locate Shalun near HSR Tainan station, in consideration of

convenient transportation, complete infrastructure and regional conditions for international academia exchange. Due to the inconvenience of location, the southern campus will the research environment and resources of industry, academia and institution in southern Taiwan to incorporate with the traditional advantages and advance of Academia Sinica to expand the cluster effect and leading new development on science and technology in southern Taiwan. SHALUN SMART, GREEN AND CIRCULAR ECONOMIC RESIDENTIAL PARK A smart green energy circulation residential park will be planned and built by Taiwan Sugar Corporation. The building with future concept will take consideration of green, building, intelligence and the concept of circular economy, to build a smart green energy circulation residential park different from conventional ideas. MULTIFUNCTION CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION CENTER The establishment of interactive platform for industry exchange at the multifunction conference exhibition center will boost the competitiveness of local industry, effectively enhances domestic and foreign industry exchange and interaction and thereby market the local industries. Tainan’s overall industry competitiveness will be improved with international publicity, which will further attract more suppliers to invest in southern Taiwan.

•

High level of public engagement, often by people from sidelined groups. Community organizing can build a sense of dignity, restore people’s sense of significance, relevance. During site visits, community members will feel dignified and part of the Shalun Smart Green City. Job creation is one aspect that will help improve the lives of locals in these communities as more people will be hired during the construction and also once it starts operating. The communities have a greater advantage of getting more tourists visiting the areas.

•

Cohesion on Important Issues. More and more, organizing groups are learning to build alliances across lines of race, ethnicity, class, and age group, recognizing the greater strength those alliances can bring to the three communities. Funders have provided support for unions between groups working with DaWuLung youth and elderly, and low-income inner city residents and middle class people in a broader areas.

•

Leadership with a dependable following. Organizing groups is a priority to develop community leaders from among their members. They are devoted to learning through training, learning through action in the community, and follow-up reflection. It really makes well-rounded persons who enter into public life in their communities, and are respected and trusted spokespersons accountable to their communities.

•

Practical solutions that come from the community. Organizing comes up with innovation that would not occur from outside of

the DaWuLung community involved. •

Greater accountability on the part of public officials. A former program officer at a private, regional philanthropy spoke of a general support grant to a local organizing group. “They were pursuing several issues, but improving education was one of the most important to their members. At the time, the mayor and the school superintendent were publicly at odds with each other, not speaking. The organizing group held a large rally, with hundreds of people, inviting both officials. One of the ’asks’ was that the mayor and superintendent begin having regularly scheduled meetings. Both officials agreed, the meetings were held, and the public tension was diminished.”

•

Attention to how policies are implemented. It is often about the way systems work, more than it is about an actual policy.

( 107b22196) LUPEMBE ESTHER SONGELA The objective of developing Shalun Green Energy Science City is to build a smart ecosystem city that co-develops with nature, as well as to build up people -oriented community and the necessary green life system. 1. (107b22221) ULOMI NSIA ASANTERABI With the increasing global warming and the rapid depletion of traditional energy sources, the world's major countries have not listed energy conservation and carbon reduction as the direction of governance, the strategic layout of energy, and the development of renewable energy. The green industry has become a new bright spot in the global economy. In response to the advent of the green economy era and the achievement of China's policy goal of moving towards non-nuclear homes, the government will promote the green energy technology industry as one of the "five plus two" industrial innovation promotion programs, and will make good use of Taiwan's development of green energy. Niche, fully promote the development of green energy industry, enhance industrial competitiveness, strengthen energy security, innovate green economy and promote environmental sustainability. On October 27, 105, the 35th meeting of the Executive Yuan officially passed the "Green Energy Technology Industry Promotion Program - Construction of Sharon Green Energy Science City, Innovation Green Industry Ecology", officially announced the promotion of the construction of Tainan Shalun Green Energy Science City. The scope of Sharon Wisdom Green Energy Science City includes core area (production area A, C, D area), commercial area (production area B area), industrial research and development area (production area X area), and the Central Academy of Central Research Institute (Production area E, F area) and high-speed rail Tainan station surrounding residential areas.

The development goal of Shalun Wisdom Green Energy Science City is to build a smart eco-city, aiming at the development of symbiosis with nature, and constructing community development and its necessary life system on the scale of "people". The following is the most important developing strategy for DaWuLun Community (DatanVillage, WudongVillage, ShalunVillage) during the nearby development of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City.

REEN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY JOINT RESEARCH CENTER This development strategy is mostly Important to DaWuLun Community since it will activate innovative green energy industries around Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City. Most of the community members around the place are engaging themselves in so many green economy productions such as agriculture. In one way another the presence and development of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City will be very productive to community members. Also through the establishment of the industry exchange and interactive platform of the exhibition center, the competitiveness of the industry in the field is strengthened. DaWuLun Community members engaged them self in agricultural production; through Green Energy Technology Joint Research Center there are so many ways they will be benefited from the presence and development of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City for example; how to practice sustainable agriculture, how to market their agricultural products, how to be competitive in the market, also they will know the

importance of focusing or investing on sustainable agriculture for healthy and productive economy by using green energy technology to run the production of crops which is possible.

(107b22258) BONZO VERONICA COSTA The Ministry of Science and Technology established the Shalun Green Energy Science City Foundation Office to implement the project. The tasks of the office include: formulating the mechanisms for planning, managing, and maintaining the Science City area, assisting in development planning, land procurement, construction planning, design, and construction work of the core areas of the Shalun Green Energy Science City (including the Joint Research Center and demonstration spaces); assisting in connecting industry, universities, and institutions, initiating international cooperation, taking stock of available technology, and attracting investment, formulating and planning supporting measures to help other agencies implement plans to improve the amenities of the area and attract and retain talent. Infrastructure for A Low-Carbon Smart Environment in the City Tainan Convention Center is the important developing strategy for DaWuLun Community (Datan Village, Wudong Village and Shalun Village). Connecting road network, 3 road widening and construction projects will be developed: the widening of the Datan interchange on Highway 86; construction of a road connecting HSR Tainan Station with Tainan Route 154; and the extension of Guiren 13th Road Guanmiao. Sewage System, Construction of dedicated sewage drainage systems, survey and maintenance of existing pipelines within the HSR

development area, land procurement for the Rende Water Resource Reclamation Center. Low-Carbon Transport Systems Public transport into the Shalun Green Energy Science City core will incorporate electric buses + hydrogenpowered campus shuttles + green energy bus shelters. Smart Green Energy Operations Control Center and Self-Driving Car Testing Zone Planning and construction of the self-driving car testing zone, planning the road system and area of the testing zone, construction of the smart green energy operations control center (including the selfdriving car control center and the energy and environment monitoring and management center). Smart Grid, Real-time energy displays will show how energy is being used across the Science City, and provide load demand projections that will optimize energy usage and saving across the City. Electric Cars and Charging Station Planning and construction of charging stations, integrating the specifications of various EVs (charging devices), and establishing an operation model for electric cars. Build a green energy industrial ecosystem that co develops with

nature and to build up people oriented community. The third strategy is the most important for DaWuLun community; We all need a good ecosystem, clean air, clean water also clean Energy. It also attracts people in green energy Technology in Taiwan and abroad

The original meaning of community development work is to carry forward the progressive and developmental intentions, and also to coordinate the social transformation from agro-industrialization, industrialization, commercialization and urbanization. Therefore, its

profound implication with progress and development, and its content includes from society, economy to politics. However, this theory of development has suffered many challenges and tests in the current society. Current The problems in the community also include the emergence of poverty, unemployment, population ageing, risky families, weak care, social exclusion, and new social problems such as foreign spouses, even with the impact of globalization. The impact of community disasters or community reconstruction caused by environmental warming is obviously not solved and solved by the theoretical methods and purposes of community development work expected in the early 1950s, plus the community before and after the first political party transformation. The emergence of the creation and the new orientation of the community and the new value to be highlighted in the content of the later six-star project have seen that the problems to be dealt with in today's community development work have been challenged and tested.

At first I thought that the sampling place we were going to pass through the path, but there was no path in the past. The place where I sampled was really desolate. I was a bit scared to see it. I thought this place was the place we wanted to sample. Afterwards, Brother Bo Jing was very intimate with us on how to sample soil, and explained in Chinese and English. We understand. After that, Brother Bai Jing said that let ’s go around first. The soil was soft and difficult to walk. After we walked, we started sampling. We started sampling the soil with a small shovel. Brother Brother Jing saw that we used small She sampled the shovel and went back to give us a large shovel. I want to say that the shovel he gave should be a little bigger than the one given to us by the TA. But when Brother Bo Jing brought it, I was scared. Big. Brother Bojing told us how to use the shovel. I think Brother Bojing used it very easily, but it was really difficult when I used it. I needed energy to dig. We found less than 500 grams after digging, so we went back to our sampling point to collect more soil and measured the soil fertility and pH value by the way. Our sampling process was boring, but we learned a lot about sampling.

(As soon as I arrived at the sampling site, I felt that this was a bit of a desolate land. It was a bit hard to imagine that we would have to sample here later. We prepared the tools, first listened to the explanation of Mr.Bojing and the assistant, and so on. How should we proceed? At first, I thought it should be easy to see Mr.Bojing's demonstration. Find and scoop the ground. In fact, at the beginning of the operation, it seemed a bit confusing, and stepped on a little soft and hard soil, stepping forward with a bit of instability, but then we made progress under the help of the teaching assistant What to do was performed, and maybe because of the delay in the front, the sampling progress was a bit late, but we also actually used the fertility and pH tester to get data. Although this is nothing, I still feel that It's cool. Mr. Bojing also explained to us very patiently, whether it was a question we asked or he told us extra, I thought he was really kind, and also sponsored two big shovel for us to use. I'm also very glad that the weather was sunny that day, so that we can complete it smoothly. In fact, in the process, I didn't encounter any difficulties, and I knew how to do it, and I could implement it quickly. The soil sampling this time was a very good experience and I was particularly impressed.)

Experience At the beginning of the semester with the same group of students are lucky enough to visit to a local farmer, after he detailed and do not break the interpretation of professional basic job contents of soil sampling, found that in all walks of life have their specialty, but because of time and our field exploration land scope is much larger than we imagined, only by the soil sampling the dozens of back analysis. Fortunately, the weather is sunny, so we don't blocked when doing the homework. In the process of sampling, he was right beside to explane about land survey of professional knowledge, in addition to considering the hydrogeological conditions, climate condition is a priority; When surveys are best suited for dry, homogeneous soil to form the breathable layer and little organic matter, in addition the sampling depth can also cause the sample on different changes, relatively soft ground at that time, so that we don’t need try too much effort when sampling. Through the external field exploration, though the process seems short, but by listening to him with the bilingual speaking, I’m very admire him, besides have the geological knowledge, it’s very professional for a farmer to spoke English and Chinese at the moment. In short, the students felt great harvest.

Experience

Conclusion

According to the field survey we did, we appreciate that we were experienced of soil testing. Then we believe that soil sampling and testing can show you the plant available nutrients and other soil chemical factors import for production.

11

After taking sample and analysing the answers said by the farmer, we saw that the soil was suitable for tomatoes and according to the soil fertility and pH analysis we did, apart of the pests and disease which can destroy the farm , the results were good for tomato agricultural farm.

12

3

2020/2/10

Reflection According to this sampling trip we did and after analyzing the answers we got from the farmer herself; we saw that some farmers they cultivated their crops without knowing if their crops are suitable for their field they are going to plant in or not.; this can be a major problem of loosing enough production as much as they need, so for this kind of issue we encourage them to test their farms soil in order to plant the crops suitable according to the soil fertility and pH so that to maximize the production. Furthermore other important thing is the variation of the crops in the farm because we found that many farmers they cultivate the same species every season which is also a major way for soil degradation or production loss, here we have example from this field survey we did, the respondent(Farmer) told us that she spent two years by cultivating the tomatoes in the same farm but in the first year the production was good and enough while the second year was contrast to the first year. That is why the variation of different crops in the same farm is needed so that to keep our soil fertility.

Reviews and conclusion

Overview

SOIL SAMPLING

It is scientifically proved that the addition of oyster shells is the farm field has benefits to plants. Crushed oyster shells have many garden uses. There are plenty of ways that oyster shells are useful for your garden. The major components of Oyster Shells are protein polysaccharides (a carbohydrate) and minerals including calcium, sodium, magnesium, copper and iron, all which are necessary for photosynthesis (the manufacturing of chlorophyll) and plant stability. Oyster Shells 'sweeten' soil, decreasing acid PH and enhances microbes and bacteria needed for plant growth.

exercises will be used to stimulate learning and provide practical experience in addressing sustainable development issues. Environmental Sustainability: Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Education Academic institutions as community members, creators of knowledge, and educators of current and future citizens and practitioners have the potential to play a significant role in establishing sustainable environments. Through interdisciplinary, community-based education students gain an awareness of and learn to make an investment in sustainable communities. As teams of students work within the local community, they are meaningfully involved with the community, each other, and the environment. Environmental sustainability and community collaboration Environmental sustainability has become a nexus for many disciplines seeking to examine issues of resource allocation, poverty, social justice, and globalization. As universities prepare students to address critical issues in a complex society, pedagogy and curriculum development have broadened to include thoughtful responses to environmental issues. Community dynamics as a mediator that can encourage responsible decision-making regarding the environment. Community is examined as the focal point for establishing a commitment to environmental sustainability; and therefore, community dynamics play a central role in decision-making. Community engagement is one of the cornerstones of environmental sustainability education. It is through community engagement that students learn to appreciate the experiences that impact not only the environment, but also the individuals and communities as they interact with the environment. The challenge of sustainable development is a difficult and complex one, requiring new partnerships — among governments, academic and scientific communities, teachers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local communities and the media. All are essential to the birth of a culture of sustainability.

11

II. Course Operation (Please explain the curriculum planning, interaction with the community (or Erren Basin), the implementation process, etc.) In this course, we uncovered diverse knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that students would bring to class, and utilize those as assets in the learning community. During the semester, students were required to work in a team collaborated with a community partner on a practical project regarding environmental sustainability. In this manner, local citizens were actively involved in learning and students also work collaboratively with project partners to develop pathways to sustainability outcomes. Together they framed the sustainability problem and collaborate on identifying solutions to it. They co-lead the project equally, accounting for students’ educational needs and practitioners’ need for changing processes, products, and their outcomes. The project team incorporated reflection as an ongoing practice to enhance their learning, their collaboration, and the quality of their outputs. Community collaboration co-learning With active contribution of local community, a science-based practical project was designed to familiarize students with real-world sustainability problems and solutions and bringing students into meaningful contact with future employers, customers, clients, and colleagues. Keyhole Garden and Baote bottle flower pot During the semester, students worked actively on a sustainability project in a pre-designed recycling station in neighbored community (Datan Community). The main goal which was establishing a Keyhole garden and Baote bottle flower pot were successfully achieved. A keyhole garden is a round garden bed with a compost pile in the center. The garden has a notch in the front, so gardeners can easily add to or turn over the pile. Featuring a drainage layer, a soil layer, and a planting area, keyhole gardens combine all the necessities that plants need to thrive. This sustainable gardening method uses kitchen and garden waste and gray water (or wash water) as food for the garden. Keyhole gardens are made with low-cost locally available materials. Compared to regular vegetable gardens, keyhole gardens require less labour (ideal for elderly, children or sick persons), less water and no costly fertilizers or pesticides. A keyhole garden also has important comparative advantages: its structure ensures soil fertility for 5 to 7 years; it can produce food all year round even under harsh temperatures; it can support the production of at least 5 varieties of vegetables at a time - thus supporting dietary diversity; and it is so prolific that its produce is more than enough to feed a family of 8 persons. Using collaborative learning, community groups (including teachers, peer group farmers, community management committees were trained on group dynamics, conflict resolution, meeting management, record-keeping and social skills, to enable communities to collaboratively undertake development activities. The environmentally-friendly training were included:  building and maintaining keyhole gardens;  making liquid manure and natural pesticides from plant origin and kitchen 12

waste;  saving waste water (“grey water”) from household use for irrigation;  protecting plants from excessive temperatures and hail stones  growing medicinal and insect-repellent plants. Communities also benefited from academic education-based cooperation with international teachers and students as well as culture exchange which make them well prepared to be science-citizens. Beside Keyhole garden, students and community members were cooperated to make Baote bottle flower pot for decoration purpose around recycling station which simply defined as growing plants in a bottles. Durability, lightweight, flexibility and strength are some advantages of growing plants in plastic containers. Plastic pots and containers are excellent choices for moisture loving plants or for those of us who are less than regular with irrigation. They were made of available recyclable bottles already collected in recycling station. III. Please indicate the output of the course results (Please quantify and qualitatively explain the implementation of the work) Learning Outcomes  This course provided students with an overview of the interdisciplinary theories, practices and resources within community and sustainable development. The course provided concrete examples and resources of sustainable development practice that students can apply in their future work involving environmental sustainability.  Providing students with exceptional learning experiences in sustainability;  Contributing to a workable sustainability solution pathway that—when implemented—can lead to positive sustainability outcomes on campus and/or in the community.  Improved critical thinking, problem solving, presentation, analytical, team work, and interpersonal skills.  Students experienced what it is like to work on real problems relevant to their discipline, and reflect on that learning in a safe and supporting environment.  Collective learning and capability building through raising the level of knowledge, expertise and capacity. Exchange of knowledge and experience allowed students and community partners to learn from each other, as well as collectively develop good/best practice to disseminate widely.  Bringing together actors with specific economic, social and environmental foci and resources to together create sustainable solutions. Building on the cross-sector perspectives and approaches, course implementation method delivered: affordable, market based solutions to provide goods and services; inclusive businesses enhancing livelihoods opportunities for 13

IV. Impact on students and teachers before and after class Many benefits arose from the creation of university–community partnerships. Before starting the course, international students had no idea of how to communicate with local people to collaboratively work on a sustainability solution. From teacher’s side, it was a great opportunity to frame a university-community partnership to evaluate the benefits and enrich the coure content. Before starting the semester, teacher negotiated with community managemeneg committes and university social responsibility office to design a course plan for the whole semester. Based on survey results at the end of the semester, university-community partnerships lead

to benefits including

exchanging knowledge, expertise, and resources that may benefit both parties. The course connected University faculty, students, and staff with local communities to address sustainability challenges through an engaged, collaborative effort. Innovative University/community-based collaborations were developed to engage faculty and students in existing course from across the University with real world, community-identified projects to meet the partnering community’s sustainability priorities. By partnering with a community organization, students learned how to combine their resources to have a greater impact at a lower cost. Partnerships also broaden their reach beyond their classmates to other people in the community. Pooling resources, such as staff, volunteers, time, supplies, and space, also helped to reduce the costs of the programs. Community partnership

V.

Review and suggestions for future promotion plans

(Please explain the difficulties, encountered, solutions, and recommendations for the implementation of the next plan, etc.) Getting to the point of developing and implementing a stronger support system for university-community partnerships should be a natural build for Chang Jung Christian University. It is recommended to set the Partnership Working Group serves, in general, as a support and governing body for university-community partnerships with both English and Chinese communication ability. Since there are members from all areas of campus, this group is able to identify where information is missing, where gaps exist, and what faculty and staff members may need in terms of support. The Partnership Working Group also serves as a forum to discuss questions that arise from campus regarding partnerships. It is also suggested to develop a Community Partnerships Database. This new database will allow faculty and staff members to submit information about their partnerships directly to the system. This will allow faculty and staff to log in at any time to see their partnerships and their annual progress. They will be able to easily see information about their partnerships rather than having to go through an intermediary data collection techniques. In addition, general information about partnerships will be available online. Internal and external users will be able to see basic information, such as how to

description, who the partners can be, impact areas, and types of activities. Users will also be able to search based on impact area and type of activity, making it easy to find partnerships that line up with their interests. It is highly recommended to provide the system in bilingual to enhance the accessibility of both parties.

整理基本資料;

2.
