Rentals Located at 150 N. Indiana Ave, in downtown Kankakee, the Rec Center offers a full gymnasium with open gym for pickleball, basketball and volleyball. The Charlton Room seats 120 people banquet style or 200 people theater style and offers a full use kitchen. This multipurpose room can be used for meetings, baby showers, wedding receptions, retirement parties, corporate events, seminars and so much more! The Rec Center hosts many rentals throughout the year, including soccer and basketball practices, acupuncture, fundraisers and more.

CLASSROOMS

Classroom comes with tables and chairs with a capacity of 32 people. Great for small meetings or gathering events. $75 deposit, call for pricing details!

CHARLTON ROOM

Charlton Banquet Room can accommodate up to 120 guests with tables and chairs, A/C, full kitchen and small stage. Great for small wedding receptions, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties, graduations and family reunions. $500 deposit, call for pricing details!

GYMNASIUM KVPD Rec Center has a full athletic gym set up for basketball and volleyball activities with the availability to split the gym with a divider for dual playing. The gym can accommodate 600 people in bleacher style seats. $500 deposit, call for pricing details!

Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena is a family fun zone as well as a competitive ice arena, featuring an NHL rink, Breakaway Cafe, and four private party/meeting rooms. The arena offers programming for advanced and beginner skaters alike, including; Learn to Skate USA classes, figure skating, introduction youth and adult hockey classes, public skating, drop in hockey and freestyle ice sessions. The arena hosts several special events throughout the year and offers birthday party packages, school field trips, fundraising opportunities, Boy Scout/Girl Scout badge programs and more!

Freestyle Ice

Freestyle Ice is a practice session for figure skaters.

The jump harness may be used during this time by one of our trained on staff coaches. All 30 minute slots are sold on the half hour at $10 per half hour or purchase a Freestyle Membership for $90 for 10 passes. Max 20 skaters per session. Guest coaches are allowed with valid liability insurance on file at the front desk at $5 per half hour.

Homeschool Skate

An exclusive time for our Homeschool Families!

Homeschool Skates run from September through May each year on the first Friday of each month. $8 per person (includes skates!). Skate walkers are available for a fee of $5.

Your school can be so “cool” with a field trip to Ice Valley Centre!

Join us for a day of skating fun with customized add ons including on ice lessons, hockey themed field trips, food and more! Geared towards preschools, day cares, camps, home schools and elementary through high school classes, your students will learn the basic skills of skating during this fun filled field trip! Each package includes a safety lesson with one of our highly qualified instructors. Package A includes admission and skate rental for each skater, as well as a hot dog, chip and drink per person. Package B includes skate rental and admission per person as well as a chip and drink per person. Package C includes skate rental and admission per person.

Learn to Skate USA Ice Explorers

Basic 1

Little skaters, big fun! Ice Explorers is an introductory class designed for our youngest skaters to explore the joy of skating in a playful, encouraging environment. Over 30 minutes, children will sing songs, play games on and off the ice, and get comfortable in their skates—perfect for hesitant beginners. Please note: the first class will be off ice only.

Our Basic 1 class is the perfect first step onto the ice! In this fun and supportive program, skaters will learn how to safely fall and get up, glide across the rink, and try beginner skills like swizzles. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, make friends, and discover just how much fun skating can be.

This unique and fun-filled class teaches the fundamentals of skating to children ages 3-5. Each week, skaters will learn basic balance and skating skills in a themed environment in this 45 minute class. We incorporate age appropriate on-ice activities, where skaters will develop the coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice independently.

Adults 1-6 This program introduces the beginner adult skater to the basics of skating. As skaters advance, new and exciting skills such as jumps, spins, footwork and artistic elements will be introduced. The class also promotes physical fitness and improves balance and coordination while learning proper skating techniques. Divided into six levels, adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated.

Advanced Figure Skating

The Kankakee Figure Skating Academy The Academy is designed to teach skating skills at a faster pace in a small group environment. This seven week training program will provide skaters with a variety of on ice skating instruction as well as the opportunity to develop further mastery of their skills by working in a semi-private or small group. This class is perfect for anyone wanting to perform in ice shows, compete, learn new disciplines in figure skating or wanting to advance through the levels quicker.

In the Jumps + Spins class, skaters will focus on improving speed and power in their jumps while mastering the fundamental mechanics. Hockey 1 has a focus on skating fundamentals. This program is designed to build confidence and proficiency, setting a solid foundation for those looking to advance in hockey. Hockey stance, Falling and recovering, Snowplow stops, c-cuts and more will be taught in this class.

Hockey 3 and 4 works on skating skills to get your player ready to join a team. Skills will focus on cross overs to gain speed, backwards c-cuts, backwards stops, stopping and starting, and backwards crossovers. These sessions are designed to challenge skaters and refine their skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of team hockey. Each class is tailored to provide individual feedback and support, fostering an environment where young athletes can thrive.

All twice weekly classes are 45 minutes of instructional time and skate rental is included. A helmet, Learn to Skate USA Membership and completion/passing of Basic 2 is required.

Hockey 2 Hockey 2 has a focus on skating movement This program is designed for those who have mastered the basics and are ready to enhance their skating skills further, building on the foundation laid in Hockey 1. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of movement and control on the ice, improving their agility and speed..

Indoor Golf Simulator League Drive, Chip, and Birdie your way through fall with our first-ever Indoor Golf Simulator League! We’re excited to partner with local favorite Tee to Go to bring the fun of golf indoors—so the season doesn’t have to end when the weather changes.

This league features Team Play in a 2-Man Scramble Format, kicking off Wednesday, November 5. The season includes five weeks of regular play followed by one week of playoffs. Each match will be 9 holes (no putting), with nightly contests for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive to keep the competition lively. League will be held at the KVPD Rec Center, located at 150 N. Indiana Ave. in Kankakee. *No league on November 16.

Lost and Found Items left at Park District programs or events will be kept at the Park District Administrative Office. Items can be retrieved during regular business hours. Items will be kept for 30 days and then donated.

Program Ideas The Kankakee Valley Park District is expanding our educational and recreational programs. If you have a particular skill, have an idea for a new program or are qualified to teach various recreational or educational programs, please call (815) 939-1311.

Insurance The Kankakee Valley Park District does not provide medical insurance coverage for individuals who participate in our programs or use our facilities. To do so would make programs and user fees cost-prohibitive.

NSF Checks & Convenience Fee A $35 service charge will be assesed on all checks returned due to insufficient funds.

Effective September 1, 2022, a 4% convenience fee will be assessed on all credit/debit card transactions. All credit/debit transactions must be greater than $1.00.

Program/Class Deadlines Please try to register early for classes to ensure the success of a program.

For most programs, a decision will be made 3 days before a class is scheduled to begin. Registering at the last minute may mean that the program has already been cancelled. If you miss a deadline, please call (815) 939-1311 to see if there has been an extension.

River Run Dog Park Code of Conduct Our FREE off-leash dog park has two separate enclosed areas so that large and small dogs can run and play independently with other breeds of a similar size and ability level. A dog is considered “small” if they are under 35 pounds.

Important to note that not all dogs fall into the “small” or “large” category.

Large puppies, senior dogs or ones with disabilities may feel more secure in the smaller dog area. Owners should be encouraged to make the decision based on not only their dog's weight, but by their socialization level and ability. Please review our Code of Contact online at www.kvpd.com.

Parent Code of Conduct I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for players, coaches, and officials at every game and practice.

I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of my personal desire to win.

I agree with these rules and understand that the Kankakee Valley Park District, partners, clubs, affiliate sponsors, have adopted a Zero – Tolerance Policy and that not abiding by these rules may restrict me from attending future games and practices.

Non-Discrimination Statement The Kankakee Valley Park District prohibits discrimination in all its programs, events and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital or family status.

Definition of Residency Not all county residents are residents of the Kankakee Valley Park District.

Anyone living within the geographic boundaries of the Kankakee Valley Park District is considered a resident. Kankakee Valley Park District residents, via property taxes, make financial contributions to the operation of the park system.

Non-residents are charged higher fees for some programs and events than residents to compensate for property tax disparity.

Residents of Kankakee township and Aroma township are considered residents of the Kankakee Valley Park District. We will check your tax bill for your township and look at the line items, of which one should say Kankakee Valley Park District.

If the Kankakee Valley Park District is listed as a line item, you are paying tax to the District and therefore a resident.

Those who are not residents of the Kankakee Valley Park District and would like to be may receive all the privileges of belonging to the KVPD by paying the equivalent of Park District taxes annually. This membership allows for priority registrations, pool passes, and any other services provided to our residents at the resident rate.

Participant Code of Conduct Participants are always expected to exhibit appropriate behavior. The following guidelines have been developed to assist in making Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for specific programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Participants shall: 1. Show respect to all participants and staff, while taking direction from staff.

2. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.

3. Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants or staff.

4. Show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities.

A positive approach will be used regarding discipline.

Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolution will be sought, specific to each individual situation. The Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant whose behavior endangers the safety of himself/herself or others.

Take a vacation from your day to day and enjoy the great outdoors!

We have 13 tent sites and 12 RV sites with 5 of them being pull through. RV sites come with a 30-amp electric hook up. Amenities include playground, fire pits, picnic tables, port-o-lets, a common dump station, outdoor shower and community water supply connection. (Hose must be removed once the reserve is full.) Pets are welcomed but must stay on leash. This campground is conveniently located adjacent to Kankakee River, boat launch, Pirate Playground, walking trail, Dog Park, and River Road Sports Complex. Splash Valley (seasonal hours) and Ice Valley Ice Arena are a short distance away.

Minimal camp supplies available on site for purchase. Further supplies only a short drive away (Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree). Check-ins begin at 2:00 pm with a check out time of 12:00 pm. River Run Dog Park

Don Palzer Bandshell

The KVPD's 2 acre dog park provides our canine companions a safe area to exercise and play off-leash. Additionally it gives dog lovers an opportunity to socialize while their dogs interact. A new parking lot was installed in 2022. The park includes a divided fenced area for small and large dogs, parking close to the site, shade trees, and trash cans.

Dog Park is located at River Road Park; turn at the River Road Softball Complex and follow along to the River.

Parks

The Kankakee Valley Park District is home to 33 parks in Kankakee, Sun River Terrace and Aroma Park.

All parks operated by the Kankakee Valley Park District are open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk. Whether you enjoy biking, walking, playing, or running, our parks have fun for everyone! Amenities include playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms (seasonally), boat access and more! No parking on the grass at the parks please. Alcohol is prohibited. 7 17 Please pick up after your pets. Parks are open from dawn to dusk.
