To the Class of 2024...

ell, seniors, we are almost there. In just a few days, we will walk the stage to end the final chapter of our childhood.

Whether you have been in the Kaneland district since elementary school or just joined us recently at the high school, we are all Kaneland’s Class of 2024.

On our first day of kindergarten and throughout our childhood, we were told that we were the class of 2024, but as an elementary schooler, this year may have seemed like a lifetime away. However, that time is now here. So, while we thought that whoever could swing the highest was the most athletic and that “fun lunches” were the best days of the year, we had no idea how many of the people who were with us throughout our childhood would be walking the stage with us on Sunday. However, in 5th grade, that changed. Before we walked the halls of Harter Middle School together, our first wholegroup interactions were at Outdoor Ed and the 5th grade concert. So, as we ran around doing activities and harmonized the best we could, that is when we realized just how big we were. At that point, we were no longer Blackberry Creek, McDole, John Shields and John Stewart Elementary Schools. We became a part of Harter Middle School.

As we anxiously walked our schedules and nervously put in our locker combinations during Jump Start, that feeling of connection

may have sunk in. We were stuck together for the next 7 years. As we experienced middle school, we were introduced to the people who would become our peers and friends. Those people are the same ones we will say a final goodbye to in just a few days. So, while many of us would rather forget our awkward phase, our time in middle school helped us find our identities.

While we may have never gotten an 8th-grade promotion, our lives changed again as we entered high school. With A/B block scheduling and the cancellation of many events, our freshman year was odd, to say the least, but we survived it.

Throughout the rest of our time in high school, we have experienced countless events, dances, and even a bathroom fire. Those experiences, whether you loved or hated them, will soon end as we walk across the stage, but those memories will stay.

We will always be the Class of 2024. As we pursue our individual goals, let us remember how we got here. As we walk the halls one final time and say goodbye to those we care about, appreciate the friendships and memories that Kaneland has brought you. Also, thank the parents, teachers, and other staff members who helped us get where we are today. It is almost time to go our separate ways and step into the world of adulthood. While this is the end of our high school experience, there is much more life to live.
