JohnJonesIIIwasborninGardenaandraisedin theFlorence-FirestoneandWattscommunities.As ayouth,hebelievedhewasdestinedforganglife duetobothsidesofhisfamilybeingmembersof alocalganginWatts.Attheageof14,afterbeing apartofataggingcrew,hemetDeputyErnie OrtegaandRamseyNicholsonwhohelpedchange hislifeforthebetter.
Inthesummerof1994,Jonesandhisfriendswere offeredjobsbythesamepeoplewhoonce adverselyaffectedhislife.Fromthisexperience helearnedthevalueofhardwork,makingahardearneddollar,andthetruthaboutganglife. JonesbeganvisitingRooseveltParkwherehe participatedinyouthfootballandbasketball.He wouldgoontoplaybothsportsatFremontand HuntingtonParkHighSchools.
Attheageof19,Johnwasblessedwithachild, whichledtolifechanges.Althoughhehadtostop attendingschoolandforgoenlistinginthe militarytowork,hebouncedback.Hedecidedto enrollinto.AJobCorpsandGuajomePark Academy(SIATech)andearnedhishighschool diploma,BusinessManagementandOffice Managementcertificationsbytheageof21.After completingthesecertificationshebecameField DeputyforCouncilDistrict15under CouncilmemberJoeBuscainoforsevenyears.
Attheageof28,hetookonanopportunitythat wouldchangehislifeforever.Thisopportunityled tothestartofEastSideRidersBikeClub(ESR),a community-basedorganizationthathasprovided supporttopeopleinneedintheWattscommunity sinceitsbeginning.In2018,ESRbecamea nonprofitandhascontinueditsmissionof providingfood,bikesandmoretotheWatts community

ShehasworkedfortheIRSfor34years.Michellehasworkedin multiplebusinessunitsthroughouthercareerbeforefindingher passionintheFacilitiesManagementandSecurityServices.
InherroleasSectionChief,Michelleoverseesrealestate projectsandprogramsfor18largeIRSemployee-occupied facilitiesthroughoutSouthernCalifornia.Shesupervisesastaff of20employees,rangingfromManagementAssistantstoSenior ProjectManagers.Herteamsupportsapproximately2,200IRS customerswithinarealestateportfoliothattotalsmorethan 800,000square-feetofrentablespace.
Michelleandherstaffareresponsibleforobtainingand maintainingleases,planning,implementingspaceacquisition rentreductionprojects,designingIRSspace,andmaintaining logisticalprogramsthatincludethemail,governmentvehicles andshredprograms.
Michelleisanavidvolunteerwhobelievesingivingbacktoher community.Hermotherandyoung,96-year-oldgrandmother instilledtheimportanceofgivingbacktootherswhenshewasa littlegirl.Ironically,that’showshewasrecruitedtoworkforIRS. Duringhersenioryearofhighschool,whilevolunteeringather church,someonegaveheranIRSapplication,andtherestis history.
Whilesheparticipatesinamyriadofvolunteerevents,herpride andjoyareservingastheSiteCoordinatorforthe“Compton Initiative,”whichisa40-yearplantorevitalizetheCityof Comptononehouseatatime–www.justdogood.organd volunteeringforasmanyeventsaspossiblehostedbythe PositiveResultsCenter.Michelleisveryinvolvedatherchurch (HopeInChristCommunityChurch,Compton)wheresheisa YouthLeader,CapitalProjectmanager,CommunityLiaison, Churchprogramandeventcoordinatorandshealsohelps whereverelsesheisneededwithintheministry.
Inhersparetime,Michelleenjoysreading,coloringinadult coloringbooks,cooking,hostingfamilyandfriendsathome,and ofcourseshopping(retailtherapy).
