UK BASED KAN CHANDRATIP IS A GRAFFITI ARTIST AND FASION DESIGNER. HIS ARCHIVE OF WORK IS SHAPED BY AN INTEREST IN TYPOGRAPHY, SOUND, MUSIC, AND THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT. KAN IS GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART FASION DESIGN'S MASTER GRADUATE IN THE 2016-17 ACADEMIC YEAR. THIS PORTFOLIO INCLUDES A RANGE OF HIS WORKS WITH EXCEPTIONAL CONCEPTUALIZATION AND HAND / DIGITAL VISUALIZING SKILLS.

MASTER DEGREE COLLECTION 2017 A Master Degree Collection that has inspired from Street art and graffiti. Street art and graffiti are things that appear among us in our daily life. In general people might think it appear to be uninteresting and meaningless. But I found there to be significant purposes of expression in the street art. I am drawn to the composition and components of the art it self. In this collection, I’ve expressed the essence of street art and combined it with silhouette referencing hip-hop culture. The design for my textiles have come from street art ideas, the merging and layering of symbols and textures that you may see on the walls built from layers of other peoples’ tags.
All the techniques that I have used in this collection are printing. They can be devide to 2 different type, the first is digital printing. The digital printing, I have collected information of graffiti by photographing and also created my own graffiti experiments. I’ve criticized and created my printing pattern from the knowledge i have by collarge andprinted on tentex which is a water proof fabric and suitable of outer wear. The second is conventional printing or hand printing. I have mainly used silk screen print with puff binder to more create texture to make them interesting and fun. The palette that influenced me is the palette of the reowned artist “Jean-michel Basqiuat”. Basquait is one of the early graffiti artist that has his own originality and style. His art works have been done on various kind of media, such as walls, canvas, paper even doors. which inspired me alot to use odd and unique media to create my kind of work. One of the looks, I have use crackle paste. It was a effect paste of scuptural art work which I applied it to my fabric and it was successfully done and perfectly sit on denim with my hand foiled printing.

This shelter structure can be utilized in two ways of sleeping. One is as a sleeping bag, and the other is as a small tent when the top of cover is connected to flexible mesh wing on the bone structure overhead. User can get a small space inside the shelter and also this structure allows user to take things out from backpack within the space. Lastly, It has a hood to warm up body temperature, and it can also be used as a pocket for containing this sleeping bag to make it easily folded and carried. And this structure can be attach and detachable through a zip between the backpack and its top of the structure.
A WEARABLE SPACE
This project is a collaboration work with interior design student in master’s course, which is a production of a transferable backpack into a small shelter. This small DIY space is more concerned with the detail, function, form, dynamism, material and proportion than an impactive big scale of design. The structures come ready to assemble, that can be erected and disassembled in a matter of minutes and have the least impact on the natural environment while providing adequate shelter and modern amenity.
The structure of this small shelter accommodates a person based on woman’s body type. It has a waterproof fabric, and waterproof breathable material to block rain spray and protect from brushing against a wet tarp. The bottom of the shelter has a cushion made from 2.5 oz Climashield Apex Insulation. Climashield is a continuous filament synthetic insulation with one of the highest warmth to weight ratios of any synthetic. It has a .82 CLO / ounce, and an overall CLO of 2.1. A sleeping bag made from this will keep user warm down to below freezing. The top zipper entry is easy to get in and out of. A small ventilating opening made from a mesh metarial allows user to easily see outside and open up for venting.

BACHELOR DEGREE COLLECTION 2016 A Bachelor degree collection that has inspired from the punk subculture. It has begun in mid-70s in United Kingdom. The 1970s in the UK was a time of open conflict. Strike leaders sent to prison and then freed by a massive strike wave, teenagers fighting in the streets against each other, against the police and against the army in UK, miners strikes, power cuts, people battling for equal rights. This period of time has inspired me to bring these two political ideologies to combine between the conflicts of opinion. This collection has a very storng chracteristic from the inspration and rich of messages within the surfaces of textiles. I have created the combination of textiles of militarous and rebellious. Punk’s iconic collarge and camo-flage inspired me to produce my own combination of two. Creating a new textile to contain harmony in confliction. Knitted Jumpsuit has inspired from officer sweater silhouette mixed with ditress details and punk’s very own hand painting.
