01. Cultural center Cultural and leisure center at navraspura, Karnataka.
DESIGN BRIEF Cultural & Community Centers and such multifunctional spaces play a vital role in a peaceful and value based growth of a town and it’s inhabitants. They offer opportunities to embrace the history and culture of the area and bring the community together using this common bond. Navraspur is a quaint spot surrounded by cultivated plots of ground and forests of prickly pear. The old fort, palaces and other heaps of ruins evoke memories of the past. The Navraspur festival featuring the maestros of Indian music is held here every year in February. However due to lack of ancillary support infrastructure, services, activities, added with the draught like conditions, this singular grand cultural event too has faced a stopper for a few years now. The aim has always been to help keep this Historic Cultural Centre alive and boosting with tourists of various cultures sharing their intangible heritage within these piles of beautiful ruins.

Cohesive streetscape Trees, cycle track, lamp posts, street furniture, signage, side walk configuration .
Environmentally conscious design and responding to the context
• Designed intersection with round abouts for traffic calming
• Connection of front façade to the public realm
The location of the site includes abandoned quarry on the north west corner. This quarry which rather would have created a garbage pit by all the residential area around was threat. The solution to convert this threat into an opportunity for site by providing a water body and creating green space around for residents which acts as recreation as well as improves biodiversity around site.
• Active frontages , green buffers in front of residence
the perimeter block attached to main road is designed with 40x60 and 30x50 plots which are detached bungalows with more space in frontage, space for garden, active frontages, good public realm connection, closer to the commercial/shopping area, etc.
Road section
PERIMETER BLOCK DETAIL PERCENTAGE OF RESIDENTIAL = 53.4%
PERCENTAGE OF ROAD = 25%
PERCENTAGE OF OPEN SPACE = 15%

PERCENTAGE OF CIVIC AMENITY = 5%
03.
Apartment
Brief The location of apartment is in Bengaluru including 3 BHK and 4 BHK blocks. The aim of apartment is to understand the concept of “building containing more than one dwelling unit.” The vision is to provide occupants with more spaces and green spaces through terrace gardens to eliminate the feel of living in congested spaces which is the scenario of most of apartments in urban areas.
Floor plans, section
4 BHK plan
3 BHK plan It is hard for the apartment dwellers of the city to get green space, a terrace garden can solve this problem. The cluster involves combination of 3 bhk and 4 bhk flats with terrace gardens which offer a visual break from the concrete jungles. The aesthetics of the garden is alone enough for anyone to feel relaxed.
Cluster plan
04.Villa
at Coorg
Brief The resort design at Coorg includes villas, restaurant, clubhouse, spa, etc for visitors to enjoy the serene and calming nature of Coorg amidst the coffee plantation surrounding site. The aim of villa is to provide a soothing experience through its design which is achieved by calm colors, sustainable materials, water body attached to each villa with a skylight.
Responding to the context of site and city is the key towards sustainable development which has been achieved in project through pitched roofing since rainfall amount in Coorg is comparatively high.

Vernacular architecture: documentation ( settlement near chand bawdi, bijapur. ) Chand Bawdi was built by Ali Adil shah (15571580) on the eastern borders of bijapur city. Adil shah named this tank after his wife Chand Bibi. When the empire of Vijayanagar collapsed, people in large numbers entered bijapur. Chand Bawdi was constructed with a storage capacity of 20 million liters to provide water to the people. Sometime later, this tank became an ideal model for other tanks built in the city of bijapur. The complex was occasionally used by members of royal family for recreation purpose.
Study of a house in Chand Bawdi settlement area This one particular house in in the settlement area has a lot of history . The building is almost 250 years old. The house has Hindu architectural style shafts, columns. The house has one wooden beam running continuously from neighboring house. Stone corbels used to support wooden beam. The walls of the house were 7 ft thick and constructed with stone. Handcut ,unpolished shahbadi tiles used for flooring. Elevation of house is a combination of stone and wooden materials. First floor balcony is designed with intricate wooden work and jalis. Windows and doors of wood. Exterior walls with stone masonry.
Craft in architecture architecture: documentation ( settlement study in miraj ) Study of single house in miraj . in the old town miraj, the vernacular architecture of miraj can be seen influenced with maratha and peshwa culture type of buildings. about family owner : sanjay ghadge ( ghadge brothers) occupation : both the brothers are photographers. location: brahamanpuri, miraj. more than 100 years old house, bult with traditional maharastrian wada style.
PLAN OF HOUSE FROM CASE STUDY
almost every building has similar structure with commercial shop at the ground fllor and residence at the first floor. the architectural elements in these buildings are decorated balcony railings, pitched roofing with mangalore tiles, ornomented pitched roofs, windows on the gable , jali and intricated work on balcony, etc. construction of these buildings is done by using wood and stone combination.
the planning of this old house is done in perfect rectangle. it starts with an open space at the front of house where there is sitting space, w.c,store,etc. the ground floor is used for living spaces and first floor is used for storage purposes. there are two brothers living in the same house but the kitchen is separated for both of their families. that is why we can see two kitchens in the planning. the wall thickness of house is about 1.8ft that is around 50 cm. the construction is done by random rubble masonary. later covered with stucco and then painted in later years.
• • • • • •
ROOFING • • •
roofing details of first floor: sloping roof with bamboo and thatched roofing supported by saagwaan wooden beams from inside. covered with clay tiles from exterior.
conclusion • to summarize the evolution of architecture in miraj can be observed since 115 years ago with wanless mission hospital which was built before independence with English architecture. • because of that , a touch of english characters can be seen in buildings of miraj which were built few years after the independence of miraj. • the peshwa, maratha impact can also be seen in old vernacular of miraj.
