REFUND POLICY: A $10 administration fee will be charged for all program withdrawals, transfers, and medical circumstances for all programs, excluding child care and membership. If a withdrawal is two weeks or more before course start date there is a full refund less the administration fee or a full credit. No refund one week prior to course commencing.

Our Fit Kidz & Fit Youth policies:

Fit Kidz (10-11 years) can work out with their parent’s supervision on cardiovascular equipment and designated group fitness classes (indicated on our schedules) after completing an orientation with a trainer.

Fit Youth (12 years) can use the entire fitness facility unsupervised after completing an orientation with a trainer.

Synchro Stars (7-14 years)

This is a fabulous new opportunity to be introduced to the world of recreational synchronized swimming. With experienced and certified coaches, the participants will drastically improve their swimming skills and build endurance by learning proper figures and building routines as a club, all in preparation for a fun December showcase. They’ll start with a 1/2 hour of dryland choreography and then 1 hour in the pool.

The POWER of Being a Girl DESIGNED for GIRLS

The Kamloops YMCA-YWCA (Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services Department) is pleased to present the 11th annual Power of Being a Girl Conference on October 19, 2016. This one-day conference, for girls aged 12 to 14 years old, is designed for girls by girls (in the annual spring workshop: PBG Planning Group) to explore the challenges of growing up, in a fun and empowering way. Girls ARE powerful and our interactive workshops will explore the healthy ways girls can find, keep and share that power. Come explore how media influences how we see of ourselves. Girls will examine how body image issues develop, and how we can protect ourselves from societal pressure.

Barbie will be making an appearance in this creative, arts based workshop.

Using the artistic medium of hat design, girls are invited to explore identity and self-awareness through an examination of all the ways we express our individuality.

EMPOWERED GIRL: Theatre Games & Decision Making Workshop

Girls will be invited to identify strategies for empowered positive decision-making in the face of peer and other social pressures. Theatre games will be used to identify and challenge negative peer pressures, establish personal boundaries, and explore personal supports—in order to set the stage for positive interactions and empowered decision-making.

DYNAMIC GIRL: Movement Workshop Girls will participate in an adaptive sports session—a fun and active athletic barrier busting experience—followed by a yoga session to connect body and mind together.

These activities promise to increase awareness, inclusivity, fitness, flexibility and strength, as well as calm the teenage mind.

Girls will be encouraged to explore, share, and record their dreams using the medium of fabric art. Sessions will focus on a variety of opportunities in a girl-day that may optimize opportunities, and help make one’s dreams come true. The YMCA YWCA Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services offers this full day conference at no cost to the girls who attend during the YWCA Canada’s Week Without Violence (October 17th to 23rd, 2016). There are many opportunities for members of our community to provide support for the Power of Being a Girl Conference including: sponsoring a girl (it costs approximately $80 per girl), partnering with the Kamloops YMCA YWCA or donating services or gifts in kind. Donations can be made at any Kamloops YMCA YWCA or online!
