The Tk’emlups te Secwepemc has a new chief and council following its election over the Remembrance Day long weekend. Rosanne Casimir, 50, was elected chief on Saturday, succeeding Fred Seymour, who did not seek re-election. “I was truly honoured and humbled,” Casimir told KTW of her win. Casimir bested 34-year-old Joshua Gottfriedson by 40 votes — 268-228 — and credited her experience for tipping the scales in her favour. Casimir previously served for nine years as a Tk’emlups councillor and held portfolios including land, leasing and taxation and housing. Also elected to council were incumbents Jeanette Jules (309 votes) and Katy Elizabeth Gottfriedson (290 votes), along with newcomers Thomas William Blank (301 votes), Colleen MosterdMcLean (301 votes), Justin Cale Gottfriedson (272 votes), Marie Baptiste (228 votes) and Sonny Joseph Leonard (210 votes).
