B C Mining for expansion in Kamloops region Kamloops continues its status as a regional mining hub with a history of mining that goes back more than a century.

B.C.’s Ministry of Energy and Mines notes the region’s “diverse geology, natural endowment, infrastructure (road, rail, power) and skilled workers” all contribute to attributes of the South Central region, which incorporates the Thompson, Okanagan and Cariboo.

Mining predates Confederation and today the region is home to five of B.C.’s largest metal mines, several industrial mineral mines and many small placer operations, gravel pits and rock quarries. Mineral products include copper, molybdenum, gold, silver, limestone, bentonite, zeolite, diatomaceous earth, highalumina shale, precious opal, dimension stone and aggregate.

Mines close to Kamloops include Highland Valley Copper near Logan Lake and New Afton, the New Gold-operated project just 10 kilometres west of Kamloops.

In 2016, companies spent $34.5 million on 18 exploration projects.

That is up substantially over 2015 and a sign that a decline in exploration activity may be over.

B C KEG conference told industry needs boots on ground

P

rospectors are getting as hard to find in B.C. as the rare elements they are seeking.

A recent survey found only a tiny fraction of the 3,000 grassroots prospectors that once kicked over rocks and obtained till samples in this province, something the association promoting exploration wants to change.

“I think we’d be lucky to count 150 right now,” said Gavin Dirom, president of the Association for Mineral Exploration in B.C. Dirom was one of several hundred mining industry representatives, geologists and financiers at Kamloops Exploration Group’s 30th annual conference, held in April at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre.

While mining companies and the B.C. government spend millions of dollars a year on everything from diamond drilling to geochemical surveys, Dirom told the forum the industry requires prospector boots on the ground to sleuth out mineral anomalies that could one day lead to the next Highland Valley Copper.

The association estimates the mine near Logan Lake has generated $55 billion in revenue during its lifetime, No. 2 in the province behind Fording Coal’s $70 billion.

One of those prospectors looking to interest a junior company that could one day option or partner with an established mining company to create B.C.’s newest mine is Chris Warren, who works in the Smithers area.

He was at the annual conference with his father, Lorne, and 13-year-old son Brian — the history and future of prospecting in B.C. The family once operated a mineral exploration ser-

vice company to supply camps, but it went under after the Great Recession hit in 2008.

Father, son and grandson continue looking for B.C.’s next mine.

“It’s the freedom, basically,” Warren said. “It’s the ability to go in the bush and you’re your own boss. You find a chunk of rock and you get excited.”

The ultimate goal is to get a net royalty cheque rolling in each month as the first person to discover a deposit that leads to a mine.

The family, however, is still waiting.

“In 50 years, my dad has never got one,” Warren

said with a laugh.

The association wants to get more prospectors like the Warrens staking claims in the bush. It is proposing a program similar to that in the Yukon and Ontario that would provide grants to encourage prospecting. The idea has yet to receive government support.

Dirom said six new metals mines have opened since 2011, including New Afton 10 kilometres west of Kamloops, but those operations started with a curious prospector.

Dirom said he would like to see more prospectors in the field, something the grants could encourage.

Mining industry aims to raise millions for BC Children’s Hospital

ining for Miracles, the B.C. mining industry’s longstanding fundraising campaign for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, has launched its 2017 campaign to develop the Transplantation & Cell Therapy Program (TRACE), the first of its kind in Canada.

In 2017 and 2018, Mining for Miracles aims to raise $2.9 million to support the development of TRACE. TRACE will work towards providing children across British Columbia with personalized medicine using the patient’s own cells to prevent rejection of organ transplants, kill cancer cells and fight infection.

“At BC Children’s Hospital, our outstanding team of clinicians, scientists, trainees and staff are striving to develop and deliver the best therapies and diagnostic methods for our kids,”

said Dr. Wyeth Wasserman, executive director of the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

“The support of Mining for Miracles will accelerate our efforts in realizing the enormous promise of transplantation and cellular therapies, helping BC Children’s Hospital to become a leader in this exciting field.”

“Every year, thousands of women and men across the mining industry come together to raise funds to support, important child health initiatives in B.C.,” said Jeff Hanman, cochair of Mining for Miracles.

Mining for Miracles funding will establish two state of the art facilities for the TRACE program, giving children in British Columbia access to the best and most current cell therapies and enabling BC Children’s Hospital and its research institute to develop new and better cell therapy

and transplantation technologies.

Once complete, the TRACE program will help 40 to 50 children with kidney transplants each year, extending transplant function and saving lives.

Remembering John Dormer, vice-president of KEG Many in the mining community are mourning the loss of John Dormer, the former mayor of Kamloops who was vice-president of the Kamloops Exploration Group at the time of his death on April 14.

Dormer, 72, suffered a stroke at home and was taken to Royal Inland Hospital, where he died while surrounded by family, including Marjorie, his wife of 48 years.

“My dad was the most loving, generous, thoughtful and hardworking person I’ve ever known,” said son Dave Dormer.

“He taught us to always follow our dreams and also strive to make the world a better place for those around us. He left an indelible mark on all who knew him. We love him dearly and he will be missed.”

Dormer is also survived by son John, daughter Julie and granddaughter Emily.

Dave Dormer called his dad “a loving husband, father and grandfather,” noting he spent his final morning making breakfast with his

granddaughter.

Dormer served as president of Dormer Consulting and president of Pacific Bentonite Ltd. Formed in 1984, Pacific Bentonite Ltd. (PBL) is a privately owned company dedicated to identifying deposits of industrial minerals suitable for mining, processing and marketing.

One of its most notable projects is the Décor mine, west of Hat Creek Valley. Décor otherwise known as Hat Creek, was put into production by Dormer.

He was also on the executive of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and several other municipal organizations and was past-president of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.

Dormer also served as chair of the Community Advisory Committee for the RCMP and was the recipient of the City of Kamloops’ Centennial Medal.

Mining for information: This is where British Columbia’s major mines can be found from near Kamloops to the north of the province and back down to the Kootenays:

approximately 29 kilometres northeast of Elkford and is one of Teck’s five metallurgical coal mines in southeast Elk Valley.

Gibraltar, owned by Taseko Mines Ltd. (75%), Cariboo Mining Corporation (Sojitz Corp., Dowa Holdings Co. Ltd. and Furukawa Co. Ltd.) (25%), produces copper and molybdenum.

Located in south-central B.C. near Williams Lake, the Gibraltar mine is the largest employer in the Cariboo region.

Brucejack, owned by Pretium Resources Inc. (Pretivm), produces gold and silver.

The Brucejack mine is currently under construction and is located about 65 kilometres from Stewart. The mine is expected to open in mid-2017.

Brule, owned by Conuma Coal Resources Ltd., produces coal.

The Brule mine (originally called the Dillon mine) is located south of Chetwynd in northeast B.C. The mine began production in December 2004 and operated until July 2014, when it went into care and maintenance due to low coal prices. Brule reopened under new ownership in September 2016.

The Red Chris mine is located approximately 18 kilometres southeast of the village of Iskut and 80 kilometres south of Dease Lake. Mine construction commenced in May 2012 and was completed in November 2014. The mine began regular production in June 2015.

Silvertip, owned by JDS Silver Inc., produces silver, lead and zinc.

The Silvertip mine is currently under construction and expected to open later in 2017. The project is located in northern B.C., approximately 16 kilometres south of the Yukon border and 90 kilometres southwest of Watson Lake.

B C Mining sector makes province shine

by Karina Brino, Gavin Dirom and Alec Morrison ommunity representatives, First Nation and government leaders, and members of B.C.’s mineral exploration and mining industry gathered at the Minerals North conference in Prince George in April to discuss important opportunities and challenges facing the industry.

One of the issues on their minds was how the government will support the industry to be globally competitive and able to produce the commodities we all need and use daily, while providing a stable, prosperous and sustainable future for every citizen of British Columbia.

Exploration and mining are an essential part of the economic and social fabric of this province.

The industry contributes more than $7.8 billion annually to the provincial economy, which includes 30,000 jobs that support families in rural and

urban communities.

Today, B.C. has 14 operating mines, more than 30 industrial mineral producers and two smelters.

In central and northern British Columbia, there are more than 110 active mineral and coal exploration projects, all contributing to the economic growth and development of our communities.

A strong and vibrant mineral exploration and mining industry is in the interest of all British Columbians.

Its annual provincial tax contributions of more than $476 million support social programs, education and health care.

As a province rich in minerals, metals and coal, B.C.’s fundamentals are strong and it is very well positioned to take full advantage of its geographic position on Canada’s Pacific coast and access to Asian markets.

And with globally determined commodity prices improving but still volatile, this

As prices stabilize, B.C. can capitalize on its opportunities and ensure that the industry remains competitive and attractive to investment.

Finding new deposits is not easy because they are hidden beneath the surface.

In simple terms, advanced geoscience methods are used to locate the promising areas

where hidden deposits may be found.

Diligent explorers then search for and discover the exact location of these deposits.

Then, to our collective benefit, miners safely extract valuable and much-need commodities such as copper, molybdenum, zinc and steel-making coal — all critical commodities that are essential in creating a greener and cleaner economy.

To remain an attractive jurisdiction for capital investment on a global stage, government and industry must continue to

work together on improving access to land to enable temporary, high-tech and low impact geoscience and exploration that locates the deposits for the mines of the future.

Exploring the mining lifecycle Exploration Geoscience/ Prospecting Searching for mineral deposits is the first step of the mining lifecycle.

During this stage, large areas are often evaluated by airborne or ground-based surveys, such as those conducted by the BC Geological Survey.

These surveys provide important geological and geoscientific information about mineral and coal resources and potential.

This information encourages investment in mineral and coal exploration by helping prospectors and com-

panies target promising areas.

In B.C., mineral claims can be staked via Mineral Titles Online by anyone with a free miner’s certificate.

The holder of a claim has the right to prospect on that claim (i.e., search for mineral deposits), but mechanized disturbance requires a notice of work permit, which is issued under the Mines Act. Initial Exploration Once a deposit is discovered, exploration methods such as more detailed surveys, sampling, diamond drilling

and trenching may be used to learn more about the deposit (e.g., size, shape, depth, etc.).

Data collection for environmental and other studies often begins at this stage.

Advanced Exploration If the results of initial exploration of a deposit are positive, a company may decide to move to the advanced exploration stage.

Advanced exploration is more intensive and expensive than initial exploration, and the main objectives are to define the quality and quantity of potential ore and to determine the most suitable min-

Bulk sampling is a common technique used in advanced exploration.

A bulk sample is a large rock sample selected to represent a potential orebody.

This sample, which

can be hundreds of tonnes, is extracted and analyzed to determine its metallurgical characteristics.

Information on ore quality, mineralogy and geochemistry obtained through bulk sampling is used to inform development decisions.

During the advanced exploration phase, drilling programs are intensified to further enhance knowledge of the shape of the deposit and the characteristics of the orebody.

The results of advanced exploration are used to estimate the

mineral or coal reserve, and feasibility studies are based on these estimates.

Using the estimated mineral/coal reserve as a basis, feasibility studies assess the technical, legal and economic viability of developing the deposit.

Advanced exploration often goes on during the feasibility stage and may result in adjustments to mineral reserve estimates.

Design Design encompasses the planning stage of mine development and the environmental assessment and permitting processes.

During this stage, which often overlaps with the completion of feasibility studies and ongoing advanced exploration, all aspects of mine construction, operation, closure and reclamation are planned in detail.

The authorizations process (particularly the environmental assessment, and Mines Act and Environmental Management Act permitting processes) usually informs the design of major mine projects in B.C. Decisions on the mine footprint, mining methods, etc. are based on a number of factors, including safety, economics and potential environmental impacts.

Plans can change over the course of a mine’s life. For instance, commodity price fluctuations can affect the viability of mining a deposit—lower prices can cause a mine to close early, and higher prices can result in mine life extension.

Similarly, ongoing exploration at or near a mine site may result in the discovery of a new deposit or determine that a mineral or coal reserve is bigger than anticipated, which can in turn result in a mine expansion.

Construction Once a mine project receives the necessary authorizations, construction can begin.

First, site preparation activities, such as cutting trees and clearing and stripping overburden, are conducted.

Once the site is ready, construction of the mine, associated buildings and structures, and infrastructure such as roads and bridges, can take place.

Over the life of the mine, construction may occur at the same time as operation (e.g., if a mine seeks approval to expand its operations, construction of the new part of the mine may take place while the existing part of the mine is in production).

Progressive reclamation begins during the construction phase and continues until a mine site is fully reclaimed after mine closure.

The operation phase begins once a mine is constructed and starts producing. Mining operations include extraction and processing of ore as well as waste disposal and ore transport.

Closure Mine closure is the final phase of the mining lifecycle.

A mine’s life comes to an end once production reserves are exhausted or it is no longer economically viable to continue extracting resources from the site.

Shutdown and decommissioning of a mine involves removing equipment (e.g., vehicles, processing equipment), dismantling facilities (e.g., mills, workers’ quarters) and safely closing all mine workings.

Mines Act permits include site-specific conditions regarding detailed closure and reclamation plans.

Because increases in commodity prices and advances in technology can improve the economic viability of mining a deposit, closed mines are sometimes re-opened.

When companies want to re-open or re-develop a major mine that has been closed for many years, they usually need to begin the authorizations process anew.

How is mining regulated in British Columbia?

Mining activities in British Columbia are subject to a variety of different provincial and federal regulations.

The main pieces of legislation that govern major mines in B.C. are the Environmental Assessment Act, the Mines Act and the Environmental Management Act. Please note this is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all regulations that apply to mining activities: Provincial Statutes The Environmental Assessment Act (Environmental Assessment Office) provides a mechanism for reviewing proposed major projects in B.C., including major mining projects, to assess their

potential impacts.

The Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) manages the assessment of proposed major projects as required by the Environmental Assessment Act. The Reviewable Projects Regulation (Environmental Assessment Office) of the Environmental Assessment Act provides for a broad range of major projects to be automatically reviewable if they meet certain thresholds, such as area or production volume.

The Mines Act (Ministry of Energy and Mines) and the accompanying Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia (the Code)

protect workers, the public and the environment through provisions for minimizing the health, safety and environmental risks related to mining activities. Proposed major mines (e.g., metal and coal), major expansions/upgrades to existing mines, and some large-scale exploration/ development projects require approval under the Mines Act as per part 10 of the Code.

The Environmental Management Act (EMA, Ministry of Environment) regulates industrial and municipal waste discharge, pollution, hazardous waste and contaminated site remediation.

The EMA provides the authority for introducing wastes into the

environment, while protecting public health and the environment.

The Act enables the use of permits, regulations and codes of practice to authorize discharges to the environment and enforcement options, such as administrative penalties, orders and fines to encourage compliance.

Guidelines and objectives for air and water quality are developed under EMA. The Waste Discharge Regulation (Ministry of Environment) identifies those industries and activities requiring authorizations to discharge under the Environmental Management Act. Federal Statutes Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment Canada

are responsible for the Fisheries Act. This act’s metal mining effluent regulations apply to most major mine projects in BC. The Canadian Environmental Act The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency conducts reviews of major projects across Canada, including major mine projects in British Columbia (such as the proposed Ajax mine south of Kamloops) under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. Other Federal statutes include the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Migratory Birds Convention Act, the Navigation Protection Act and the Species at Risk Act.

Major mines in British Columbia typically produce metal and coal, but larger aggregate or industrial minerals operations may also qualify as major mines.

Major mines require many authorizations from various federal and provincial agencies. The number and type of authorizations required varies from mining project to mining project, but typically there are three primary provincial authorizations: • Environmental assessment (EA) certificates, issued under the Environmental Assessment Act (Environmental Assessment Office); • Permits issued under the Mines Act (Ministry of Energy and Mines); • Waste discharge permits issued under the Environmental Management Act (Ministry of Environment).

Established in late 2014, the Ministry of Energy and Mines Major Mine Permitting Office (MMPO) improves the co-ordination of major mine permitting across British Columbia.

The MMPO brings clear accountability to both industry and government to ensure timely and durable decisions are made with respect to permitting major mine projects around the province.

Federally, most major mines in British Columbia require Fisheries Act authorizations.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) conducts reviews of major projects across Canada, including major mine projects in British Columbia, under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. If a major mine project is deemed reviewable by CEAA, it requires federal environmental assessment (EA) approval.

Other federally managed statutes may also apply to major mine projects in B.C. and authorizations under these statutes may be required.

The federal government’s Major Project Management Office manages major resource projects in the federal regulatory review process, including some major mine projects in BC.

B C Protecting water quality through lifecycle

Mines that release effluent can potentially cause changes to the receiving environment.

Released effluent may impact the water quality in streams, lakes and groundwater, which in turn has the potential to affect local aquatic life and/or other water uses.

An impact assessment for any proposed discharges, such as effluents, must be conducted by proponents in order to apply for an effluent discharge permit from the Ministry of Environment.

Impact assessments are reviewed by not only by provincial government agencies, but also

by First Nations and other interested parties as part of the permit-application process.

These assessments inform the province’s decisions about the potential risks to water quality that a project may have.

The information that impact assessments provides ensures appropriate terms and conditions are set in permits to protect water quality throughout the lifecycle of a mine.

Permits issued under the Environmental Management Act commonly require proponents to report regularly to the ministry on waterquality monitoring.

By Jim Carr wenty-one years ago, the federal government decreed that the second week of every May would be set aside to recognize the importance of mining to our everyday lives and the development of Canada.

Of course, mining’s contributions began long before that.

A quarter of a century before Confederation, the Geological Survey of Canada was established and its early mapping of our mineral resources unearthed the key deposits upon which Canada was built.

Today, mineral exploration and mining continue to be rich sources of opportunity and prosperity for our country.

Every week, 375,000 Canadians go to work to produce the materials essential to modern society — from the copper and silver found in cutting-edge medical equipment to the gold and nickel found in smartphones.

During my time as minister of Natural Resources, I’ve come to have an even deeper appreciation

for Canada’s status as a global leader in everything from sustainable mining and innovation to indigenous engagement and corporate social responsibility.

I’ve seen the global recognition of the Maple Leaf as a trusted symbol and a valued brand of mining excellence. And I’ve watched the world come to Canada when it wants to talk about exploration and mining.

One of the reasons for the success of our minerals industry is that it has always responded to the special challenges that confronted it.

It continues to do so — becoming an early supporter of carbon pricing to fight climate change and working to ensure that communities benefit from mineral resource development.

It has also been a model of indigenous engagement, — employing more than 10,000 indigenous people across the country and with close to 380 active agreements between mining companies and indigenous communities — helping mining projects to gain acceptance and maximize socio-economic benefits in

As Canada joins the world in making the transition to a lowercarbon economy, mining is playing a crucial role by developing new, clean technologies and innovative solutions.

Managing tailings, mining’s byproduct Tailings are a byproduct of mining.

They are finely ground rock and mineral particles that remain following processing and extraction of targeted resources (e.g., minerals containing metals such as copper or gold) and they may also contain chemicals used in the extraction process.

Tailings are different from overburden and waste rock, which is the material (e.g., soil, rock) that is moved during mining activities but not processed.

Tailings management is different from mine site to mine site.

At most major mines where tailings are produced, the tailings are mixed with water and deposited as a slurry into tailings storage facilities (TSFs).

Often TSFs use dams to create capacity to permanently store tailings for the life of the mine and throughout closure.

Waste rock is generally stored on mine sites in piles or dumps, but it may also be stored underwater to mitigate metal leaching and acid rock drainage.

Most mining dams in British Columbia are regulated under part 10 of the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia (the Code), as established under the Mines Act. Under Part 10.5.3 of the Code, mines with TSFs are required to submit annual dam safety inspections to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM).

Reclaiming the land once mining is finished Since 1969, companies have been required by law to reclaim all lands disturbed by mining and related activities in British Columbia.

B.C. was one of the first provinces in Canada to enact mine-reclamation legislation and the first to extend this policy to exploration sites.

The province’s reclamation laws ensure that land, watercourses and cultural heritage resources are returned to a safe and environmentally sound state.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines enforces the reclamation provisions of the Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia (the Code), as well as permit conditions through site inspections.

The ministry also conducts detailed technical reviews related to site-specific reclamation plans to ensure environmentally sound, economically viable solutions that enable

B.C.’s mining industry to remain internationally competitive while maintaining this province’s rigourous environmental standards.

Before starting work at a mine site, companies are required to obtain a Mines Act permit approving the mine plan, a program for protection of the land and watercourses and a reclamation program.

Mining companies must also place a reclamation security with the province to ensure reclamation obligations are kept. This security is only returned once the mine site has been reclaimed to a satisfactory level and there are no ongoing monitoring or maintenance requirements.

Permittees are required to submit annual reclamation reports (ARRs) to the ministry in compliance with their Mines Act permits and the Code. The intent of the ARR is to provide a summary of all activities conducted on the mine property over the previous year. Specifically, the ARR must

outline the following: • Mine development, including surface disturbance, stripping, stockpiling and disposal and storage of all materials.

• Activities, research and monitoring results associated with the development and implementation of the environment protection program.

ARRs must also provide a projection of mining and reclamation activities planned for the following five years.

Report information is required to be in a specific format, outlined in the ministry’s annual reclamation report requirements.

B C Cox selected as mining association prez Bryan Cox is the new president and CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC).

He assumed the role on May 1.

Cox joined the association as vice-president of corporate affairs in 2014, bringing with him a wealth of experience in government relations and public affairs.

Cox has been a strong industry advocate on key policy matters related to the fiscal and regulatory regime in British Columbia.

Association chair Jeff Hanman said Cox’s collaborative and constructive approach

will support MABC as it continues to work with governments, First Nations, communities and the public in ensuring mining remains an important economic driver for all British Columbians.

“On behalf of the board of directors and the MABC staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Bryan as MABC’s incoming president and CEO,” Hanman said.

“We look forward to his continued leadership in representing our industry.”

Prior to joining MABC, Cox spent seven years in the brewing industry in progres-

sively senior roles, including vice-president Western Canada at Canada’s National Brewers, where he was responsible for managing the regulatory and public affairs agenda for Canada’s largest brewers across the four western provinces.

Cox also spent several years with the government of British Columbia in senior roles.

Mined diamond production in 2017 is estimated to be 142.3 million carats worth $15.6 billion, which would be an 11.5 per cent increase in carat volume produced over 2016 and an 9.9 per cent increase in total value produced, Paul Zimnisky’s Rough Diamond Index shows.

The top 10 largest mines in the world by value produced are estimated to represent 58 per cent of global production. De Beers’ Jwaneng mine in Botswana is ranked No. 1 and is estimated to independently produce 15 per cent of the world’s diamonds in value.

Russia is estimated to be the largest producing nation by value, at 35 per cent, followed by Botswana at 22 per cent, Canada at 14 per cent, Angola at eight per cent, South Africa at seven per cent, Namibia at fibe per cent and Australia at three per cent.

Canada is arguably the most active nation in the global diamond mining scene. The country hosts five large-scale diamond mines with state-of-the-art infrastructure, two of which are the newest worldclass diamond mines in the world: Gahcho Kué and Renard.

Three of the five largest players in the industry, De Beers, Rio Tinto and Dominion Diamond own assets in Canada and the nation also has the most robust diamond development project pipeline in the world Gahcho Kué and Renard are estimated to bring to market 4.5 million carats of incremental supply this year worth $500 million, with the two mines contributing about a third of the estimated 14.7-million carat increase is global diamond output in 2017 over 2016.

Most of the balance of additional supply in 2017 is likely to come from De Beers, ALROSA and Rio Tinto increasing production relative to capacity.

For example, De Beers currently has approximately 35 million carats of production capacity and is estimated to produce 32 million carats or 91 per cent of capacity this year, whereas the company only produced 83 per cent of capacity in 2016.

On the exploration/development front, multiple Canadian firms are advancing what have the potential to be world-class mines.

Peregrine Diamonds, which is expanding the resource at its Chidliak project in Nunavut, has the potential to eventually produce over a million carats a year worth in excess of $200 per carat.

Shore Gold is updating the feasibility study on it’s Star-Orion project in Saskatchewan after working to optimize overburden removal and recovery options.

If put into production Star-Orion has the potential to produce well over a million carats annually at a mine life that could exceed 50 years.
