Santa Claus parade set for Saturday The annual Santa Claus Parade is celebrating international Christmas traditions tomorrow with a theme of holidays around

the world.

Between 10,000 and 20,000 people line Victoria Street each year for the seasonal holiday kick-off. Upwards of 70

community groups take part alongside festive floats and displays.

Kamloops This Week carriers will be collecting letters to Santa along the parade route to be delivered to the North Pole.

The day will start with the waking up of Santa at 10:30 a.m. at Kamloops Square.

The parade runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting at Second Avenue and St. Paul Street., travelling north to Victoria Street and then east, ending at Sixth Avenue.

No viewers are permitted in the 600 block of Victoria St. There will be pre-parade entertainment for spectators along the route starting at 10:15 a.m.

Several categories will honour the best decorated floats.

There will be prizes for first, second and third place, top novelty entry, parade star, best band and youth entries.

Floats will be judged ahead of the parade at 9:30 a.m.

Spectators are encouraged to carpool or take transit downtown as parking will be limited, with several streets blocked off.

Downtown parkades are free to use but private off-street lots are not.

Christmas in Downtown Experience Christmas Downtown holiday campaign kicks off this week Downtown Kamloops is celebrating the holidays with several Christmas giveaways and contests.

Throughout the In It To Win It campaign from Nov. 24 to Dec. 24 the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association (KCBIA) will be giving out more than $3,500 in prizes.

With every $20 purchase at a participating downtown business, patrons will be entered into a biweekly draw.

Shoppers can also enter by sharing KCBIA social media posts or using the hashtag #downtownkamloops.

With every $100 purchase customers are entered in two grand-prize draws happening just before Dec. 25.

City centre merchants are also decorating their windows with festive holiday displays again this year.

Last year’s winning display was the creative Christmas tree dress at First Comes Love Gowns and Events.

Shoppers are invited to vote for their favourite for another chance to win one of the biweekly holiday giveaways.

Each window will have a QR code, which you can scan to vote from your cell phone or via text.

Hardcopy entry forms are also available at the CAP Team office at 4-231 Victoria St. On-street giveaways will round out the KCBIA’s downtown Christmas campaign. The CAP Team and its mascot, Grizz, will be rewarding shoppers with random prizes throughout the holidays.

Santa will be making numerous appearances in the city centre, delivering candy canes and small giveaways.
