Holidays Approach, Think Seven Stones As the holiday season approaches, thoughts turn to entertaining in the comforts of home. It won’t be long and Canadians will be popping corks to celebrate the holidays with friends. It’s this time of year when red wine purchasers are looking for some great wines to accompany festive meals. Many people don’t know that tucked away near the South Okanagan in beautiful British Columbia is a cornucopia of exceptional vineyards and wineries offering world– class wines. This area is called the Similkameen Valley and is fast becoming known for its exceptional wines.

Wines Taste Better with Age This is especially true for red wines.

The reason is that grape juice contains a substance called Tannin, which gives dry sensation in our mouth. Red wines contain more tannin since during fermentation, the grape juice spends more time with the skins, seeds and stems. When a wine is young, it’s the tannins that give

it a bitter flavour. As the wine ages, the tannins dissipate creating a more pleasing aroma and a smooth, rich flavour without the bitterness of a younger wine.

Library Wines for Everyone Library wines are a highly sought after older vintage of wine. The longer wines age, the higher their value, making them a pricier commodity. But Seven Stones Winery has recently released a generous selection of library wines to the public at competitive prices, making high quality aged wines accessible to everyone. “Our library has proven that our wines get better with age so we offer the opportunity for you to explore that”, says Seven Stones owner and winemaker George Hanson.

The Festival is open to the public who are invited to browse through the holiday displays at four locations this year and enjoy the holiday splendour. This year Festival of Trees is being shared between our two communities of Oliver and Osoyoos with trees on display at Nk'Mip Cellars Winery, Watermark Beach Resort, Frank Venables Theatre Lobby and Baldy Mountain Resort.

There is no admission for this event and everyone is encouraged to come and vote for their favourite tree; a minimum donation of $2 is requested. Donations over $25 BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) will issue tax receipts.

Trees will be on display as follows: Nk’Mip Cellars Winery 10 am to 5 pm daily Watermark Beach Resort 8 am to 11 pm daily Frank Venables Theatre 5:30 to 8 pm daily Baldy Mountain Resort Outdoors Daily Watermark Beach Resort has bells on this Christmas, and lots of Christmas Cheer. The lobby and foyer are decorated with Festival of Trees and a Silent Auction. Monies from the silent auction held at Watermark Beach Resort will support

the BC Hospitality Foundation. The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) provides 'last resort' financial support for individuals within the hospitality community that are coping with a financial crisis arising from a medical condition or injury. Everyday, BC's hospitality industry serves you. They are winery and brewery workers, wine sales people, baristas, concierges, hotel staff, cooks and service staff.

The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted as most jobs in the industry are parttime with minimal benefits.

Christmas cookie decorating for light up the vines and Winter in Wine Country, and the Santa Claus Parade, festive cocktails, desserts and pairings as well as complimentary mulled wine. Our Christmas parties, great Christmas cheer and central location walking to all the lovely shops in Osoyoos makes Watermark Beach Resort the perfect getaway leading up to Christmas.
