Kamloops-South Thompson MLA and Transportation Minister Todd Stone and wife Chantelle won the third annual Dancing Like the Stars fundraiser Saturday night at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre. The gala was held to raise money for the rapid access breast-health clinic at Royal Inland Hospital. The Stones learned their nifty dance moves under the guidance of Nuance Dance Studio. Four other couples also competed. Turn to page A12 for more photos and information from the night.

An investment group that has signed a letter of intent to purchase Sun Rivers Golf Course will lower annual fees in a bid to double membership. Bill Amy, an investor and spokesman for Ranchero Enterprises, said that is just one of the changes the prospective owners plan for Sun Rivers. Sun Rivers Partners announced yesterday it has a pending sale agreement with Ranchero Enterprises to sell the golf course and associated Hoodoos Restaurant. The sale price was not announced. who has a background in marketing and retired to Kamloops from the Lower Mainland eight years ago. The six-hole course is unusual in Canada, but is a growing trend in the United States, Amy said. It is aimed at busy families, children and professionals in a hurry. It will have three different tee boxes at each hole, in theory allowing 18 holes on the short course. “Demographics of golf haven’t changed. Demographics of families has changed,” Amy said. “That’s one of the reasons we’re building a six-hole par-3 and will have a strong teaching program. We want to entice families.” The company is purchasing what Amy described as “slivers” of land from Sun Rivers Partners to fit in the new short course. Sun Rivers has about 200 members today, a number the prospective ownership group wants to double for next year. It will do that in part by lowering membership fees. The price for green fees will not decrease. See IMPROVEMENTS, A4
