One hot weekend

I

t’s early in the morning. The sun is shining, the air is clean and a little crisp.

You catch a glimpse of polished paint and sparkling chrome on several cars driving by.

In the distance you hear the deep rumble of diesel engines warming, awaiting the escort.

This is it. The beginning of the 21st annual Hot Nite in the City Show and Shine.

We will be featuring muscle cars, hot rods, bikes, vintage cars and trucks, rat rods, exotic sport cars, tuners, sport compacts, collector, big rigs and busses.

We do ask that those who come and enjoy the show to respect the time, effort and nances dedicated

to these cars. Please be careful when admiring them.

ne time per year on a Friday and Saturday in August, 13 city blocks in downtown Kamloops are closed off to allow street rods, customs, American muscle, sport-compact, tuners, British, European, Asian, collector, vintage, motorcycles, race competition vehicles and big rigs to line the streets for the annual Hot Nite In The City Show and Shine.

Skating Club for providing volunteers to operate this Poker-Run. J 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.: The last stop of the HNITC poker-run will be the Lansdowne Village A&W with secured parking for a Show and Shine, great A&W food, fun activities for the whole family and prizes.

Saturday, Aug. 8

7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Plaza Heritage Hotel special HNITC breakfast buffet.

J 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Registration for the 21st annual HNITC Show and Shine and parking of all HNITC Show and Shine J 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.: vehicles.

HNITC Poker-Run prizes for the top three poker-hands.

A total of $2, 990 in prizes will be won by the top 27 poker-hands from Friday’s A&W-hosted HNITC Poker-run.

Only the top three prizes will be awarded Saturday.

After the awarding of the trophies move your vehicle from the Show and Shine area. Streets will be re-opened to normal trafc by 6 p.m.

ead to Riverside Park where the Fourth Annual Ribfest will be taking place alongside Hot Nite in the City! A fan favourite, Ribfest runs all three days from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offers a rib cook-off between six champion barbeque teams. The event includes music and entertainment and an assortment of vendors, plus activities for children and refreshment centre for adults. Ribfest is the major fundraiser for the Daybreak Rotary Club of Kamloops.

1986 Corvette

his Corvette was a 50th birthday gift to Marc Chenier from his foster brother and wife. Ever since he got the car he has attended Hot Nite in the City. Marc always loved Corvettes but it was never a priority to buy one so this was one of the greatest things that ever happened to him, he says. He replaced the leather seat covers, replaced the seals for the windows, tore the dash apart, repainted it, re-dyed the carpets and detailed the engine and other miscellaneous things.

He licenced it in June 2014.

It is a Factory Five MKIV roadster replica of 1965 Cobra 427.

The engine is Ford 351 bored and stroked to 408 cu.in. with steel crank and H-beam rods and forged pistons, 11.5 to 1.

Victor junior heads and manifold with full Comp Cam roller valve train.

Holley race carb and MSD ignition and Hooker headers.

Dynoed at 530hp and 540 ft.lbs.

Transmission is a TKO 600, 5 speed and Mcleod dual friction clutch.

arry’s 1964 Oldsmobile cutlass F85 sports edition is making its rst visit to Hot Nite in the City in 10 years. 455 cu. in. turbo 400 trans with a 2800 stall converter,

3:73 posi with Dutchman axles.

Hedman headers, suspension all chrome moly a-arms and sway bar, rear control arms boxed.

Four-wheel disc brakes, torque thrust wheels 16”, B&M shifter.

Too many engine mods to list.

Recent body and interior restoration by Rags to Riches in Langley, even though the car has only 49,500 miles on it.

Barry is the fourth owner. Car built in Fremont, California. The rst owner was a woman, then a fellow in Portland, Oregon, who did engine changes etc. and drag raced.

It runs 12.8 seconds in the quarter mile. The third owner was from Langley.

rlene Pasemko’s husband Ed had a similar car to this when they rst started dating and owning another one had been a dream of her’s for years.

Purchased 21 years ago from a farmer in Yarrow B.C., with 74,000 miles on the odometer. The only parts to be replaced were the mufers, water pump and tires.

This is a 327 CID, 340 HP 4 speed vehicle that he has driven locally and to Vancouver Island.

With 82,000 miles and slowing down to 475 in the last ve years.

A really enjoyable ride, Ed says.

iz’s Olive was rescued from a Westsyde property in 2007.

Several generations of mice were evicted and a ve year restoration followed. All the running gear was updated with components from newer model VW vans, topped off with a VW Golf engine.

T

he story behind Kellyn Baruta’s 1972 Plymouth Satellite: “When I was in high school, a ffriend and myself were out cruisiing around a local salvage yard in D Dawson Creek.

After wondering around for awhile, we stumbled across this diamond in the rough. There weren’t m many two-door cars in this yard so, eeven without the bumpers and grille, iit stood out.

I wasn’t too familiar with these

HOT NITE IN THE CITY 2015, KAMLOOPS BC cars at the time, but after seeing what a completed one looked like I had to have it. It had been sitting in that yard since 1986 by the time I found it.

In 2010, after working through the summer, I had saved the $500 to purchase it. It was the start of a very ambitious high school project.

Instead of parties or other typical teenaged activities, my weekends were spent replacing quarter panels, or sanding the four layers of old paint away.

I no longer had money to party with anyway. The original engine was a 318, and, as the picture shows, not in very good condition, so it was replaced with a 440 big

block powertrain.

I wanted to keep the original driving experience, so basically that meant a period-correct type setup.

The car has breaker point ignition, genuine bias ply tires — and, yes, even the original AM radio.

We chose to nish it in B3 Super blue, better known as Petty blue, as it is a unique color and pays homage to Petty Enterprises team that raced cars like these.

Of course, I owe a huge thank you to my dad. His expertise was invaluable.

We did everything in house, from the engine to the body, and I think that is an experience that few people can relate to.”

hat was I thinking?

When I retired I told my wife I wanted to spend $30,000 to build a $20,000 dollar Hot Rod. She said OK if it got me out of the house. I purchased the car ve years ago. It was a rusty body sitting on an original frame.

No running gear. The wood was all rotten and the car was not restorable to original. All wood was removed and replaced with steel.

I spent two years collecting parts and then started the three-year Hot Rod project. I wanted the outside to look as close to original as possible.

It now has a 600 H.P. Blown 383 Chev engine and a Muncie 4 speed.

For Safety it has 4 wheel power disc brakes, an internal hidden roll bar, Lakewood bellhousing and boxed frame. For comfort it has Southern Heat and air (thanks to Southgate Radiator).

I did all the work myself except engine machining by Magnum Machine and Valley Speed. Versatile Upholstery installed an affordable interior. Knowles Exhaust installed the Flowmaster exhaust.
