What is mental health?
A mental illness is a disease that causes mild to severe disturbances in thought and or behavior resulting in an inability to cope with life’s ordinary demands and routines. The world health organization (WHO) defines mental health as a subjective well-being, perceived self-efficacy, autonomy, competence, intergenerational dependence and self-actualization of one’s intellectual and emotional potential among others. The WHO further states that the well being of an individual is encompassed in the realization of their abilities, coping with normal stress of life, productive work and contribution to their community. From above we see that understanding this other aspect of our health will be predominant for an optimum functioning of our system.

Mental health defects
Just like our bodies that get affected by bacteria and viruses, our mental state too can be affected. This could be caused by internal or external factors which give rise to some mental health illnesses or disorders. However, some of these defects can be detected and treated especially when they are just identified. There are over 200 classified forms of mental illnesses. Some of the most common disorders include depression, bipolar disorder, dementia, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders.

Accept the different feeling you experience and try to fix them •Fix unusual behavior. If you discover that you are behaving strangely, look for ways to fix it before it goes out of hand. •Take time out and reboot. Sometimes stress from continuous periods of work can be calmed after a period or rest. •Seek help from a counselor. If the challenges persist consult a trained counselor or help. ount Cameroon is an active vol cano in Cameroon near the Gulf of Guinea. It’s native name is ‘Mongo ma Ndemi’ (Mountain of Greatness). It is 4,040m high, it’s summit is the highest point in sub-Saharan western and central Africa. It is the fourth-most prominent peak in Africa and the 31st most prominent in the world. In the rain forest surrounding the mountain, there exists a beautiful bird; the Mount-Cameroon Frank Colin aka “KWAI” which can only be seen on Mount Cameroon and nowhere else in this world.
Other animals you would find there are red-eared monkeys, chimpanzees and elephants(“njorku”) The mountain is part of the area of volcanic activity known as the Cameroon Volcanic Line, which also includes Lake Nyos. The most recent eruption occurred on February 3, 2012. It has the most frequent eruptions of any West African volcano.

The Cameroonian urban music industry has within the past decade made decisive strides and now stands tall in Central Africa and among the most booming industries in Africa. rban music artists like Mr. Leo, Daphne, Salatiel, Tenor, Locko, Gasha, Montess, Jovi, Stanley Enow, Wax Dey, Magasco and many others have worked hard within this period, released killer hit songs, won awards and helped the industry gain continental and world recognition. The above listed artists and many others have struggled through an industry without a solid foundation, unsupportive government, little or no fan base etc., all of which made them start almost from scratch to where we are today. These reasons and more have seen many talented artists come into the industry and gone silent or dormant after a while. This article seeks to elaborate on the reasons for the slow progress of the industry despite the huge potential as we've seen with the 'one-hit' artists and other artists who seem to be putting in much work, releasing songs back to back but remain in the same position. The first point or reason that comes to mind links to the old generation, - Zouk, Makossa, Bikutsi etc. who seem to have only noticed of recent that they have a huge role to play in the future of the Music industry.
Many Urban Music artists with a big name today barely had the help and support of the legends of the last generation. You would notice there are little or no young artists in Bikutsi or Makossa simply because the generation did not look after the young aspiring in that genre and so thanks to the internet and digital age, the urban generation had to pick a few tips from neighboring countries, managed through all the huddles to where we find ourselves today. Worth noting that we've recently seen these old generation artists joined the trend within the past years and involved in collaborations with the new artists like Daphne and Ben Decca, Longue Longue and Nika, Locko and Sammy Diko, Mani Bella and Ztra, Ben Decca and Wax Dey etc. If this was the story 10 years ago when artists like Salatiel, Mr. Leo and Jovi were setting up their foundations, the story would have been different today and it would've been needless trying to put Cameroon on the map knowing that Cameroon music had always been on the map. The consumers also play a vital role in the process as they are the star makers. Fans and followers are tasked to consume the music, both old and new, they have to turn up for shows and concerts as well as share content about the artists to their friends, family and loved ones. Slow and expensive data in Cameroon is not helping this process as majority of the audience are "Stingy" with their data and will hardly use their resources to discover new talent. New artists drop songs on a daily but the fans and audience will hardly click on the links to watch the songs and even those who click will hardly drop a review or share the songs to others. Another problem is that many new artists are not original. They copy from other artists and other countries, a style which has already flooded the industry. However, we've seen new artists with originality emerge within the

past year or two like Young Holiday, Kameni, Wan Shey, Fhish, Gomez and others. These artists have proven to be creative with their new releases and have attracted and motivated the online audience to consume their music and support them. Much work still needs to be done outdoor and on the streets. Speaking about artist’s creativity, the diverse cultures of Cameroon has influenced the creativity and target market of most artists especially the English speaking artists. Most of them are forced to sing to sell to a more supporting Francophone population. The French language in their songs will usually not come out the best and they hardly get the genuine love and support that they wish for. Most of them look up to the Nigerian music industry but forget to know that the Nigerian audience has grown to love their artists, their style and genre of music. One of the most important reasons for the slow pace in the industry as concerns breakthrough of artists and consistency is "amateur" record labels, irresponsibility on the part of the artists and fall out with these labels. Within the past 5 years, we've seen serious cases of record label/artists fights, media ‘beefing’ and ‘clapbacks’ with screenshots in comment threads. Most of these fights have been picked up by the media and treated as fun and entertainment for people rather than matters of urgency and condemned to avoid same happening in the future. Many young and talented artists have quit their record labels recently, either due to misunderstandings with the labels or what they describe as exploitation as well as irresponsibility from these artists. Tilla recently quit her former label, The Dedes Records; Crispy quit Ten12Ten; AWU quit PLAZA Music; Rythmz quit Empire Company. Not forgetting the feud between Calabash Music and artists like Slim C Stanis, Realm Squad and Roqzen who all quit the label and not in the best terms. Most sponsors/investors of Cameroonian music dubbed record labels are based in the diaspora and I've always had this theory about diaspora sponsors and record labels. Most of them join the business because they have money and probably because they think that it’s a good avenue to invest and make more money in the future. They come in with money for audio production, video production, some distribution and most times take care of the logistics, accommodation of the artist and the home based team. Most of them just come in with production cash, a Facebook page and a logo, and then we hear of a record label. This to me is the main reason behind all these fall outs, feuds and misunderstandings. Very few of them try to master the business part of music before even creating the label. Very few of them have any knowledge of the combined "production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists..." all of which make up a record label. On the part of the artists, they too become over excited when approached by ignorant investors. They hardly seek help before sealing deals. If the artists ask the necessary questions at the early stages, the sponsor will be forced to look for an expert in the field. But no, they rather sit and enjoy the services and when they see no improvement after a few years, they start crying foul play and attract the sympathy of the public on their case, of course, artists are the people with fans and fans are the majority so we will always see a situations of online bullying by fans and artists against the record labels. We've also seen situations where artists are ignorant and being exploited by record labels with a business mindset. The record labels lock the artists into contracts and slowly

kill their talents till it reaches a level where the artist has to start picking the pieces of what is left off. There are some key points and clauses that an artist has to see in a contract before signing. If an artist starts housing & feeding allowances from a sponsor without a proper deal or agreement, then that is the beginning of failure and they will never really come to a compromise in the actual contract. However, there exist some very serious and professional record labels in the country and we've seen them do their best to push young artists to the limelight like Alpha Better Records, Stevens Music Entertainment, Empire Company, Big Dreams Entertainment, Blu Nation Recording etc. Shura of Stevens Music Entertainment, Tzy Panchak of Blu Nation Recording and Ko-C of Big D r e a m s Entertainment are among very few artists that h a v e penetrated t h e i n dustry within the past 2-3 years and are now making some real cash off their craft through bookings and digital distribution. The above points and many more explain the slow breakthrough of artists in the Cameroon music industry. The mother reason could be the lack of support and investment from the Cameroonian Ministry of Culture and government who as we know are the backbone of the most successful industries in the world. But seeing the successes of some other artists without this support, we understand that it is possible so long as the right amount of work and dedication is put in. Fans and followers should strive to accept new talent and think about the future of the industry. The old (former) generation should continue collaborating with the new comers to ensure a clean transition between the old, the established and the urban artists and to motivate the fans of the old generation music to love and support urban music. Artists have to show humility and gratitude when they are approached by sponsors and investors, while valuing their talent. Nobody is signing them to 'help' them, but rather it is a mutually beneficial relationship.
