Project Type: Recreational
The Savannah Swim Complex is a recreational project located in the eastern regions of historic Savannah, Georgia. The project called for a complex of aquatic related sports, such as an olympic size swimming pool, dive pool, recreational pool, and gym.
The concept behind the design of the complex was inspired by the economic standing and division of the sites’ surrounding communities . Just south of the sites’ location, is neighborhood with the lowest income in Savannah. In contrast, to either the east or west of the site, lie some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the area. The diffusion complex will serve as a space for the intermingling and spread of community involvement. Through shared recreation, future and current generations from different social groups can begin to resolve the issues of dissociation between the two communities.

Wynwood, located in the northern part of Miami, is a city that has transformed drastically from the characteristics it once inhabited in its original form. It was once home to small family businesses or commercial warehouses, and now, through the process of gentrification, it is characteristic of more high end retail and commercial shops and restaurants , focused around the Arts.

The new master plan for the city of Wynwood dealt with the introduction of a gridded agricultural system that would adapt to the needs of the community and each lot within the site. The grid breaks down throughout the city in many different forms, from small plots of community urban farming to larger institutions where agriculture and the Arts come together, such as the final portion of the project located on 27th street. Hanging productive gardens produce new forms of inspiration and media for students and artists within.

Stage 1 in bridging those barriers includede a reorientation of the campus axis towards the Abacoa community and banding together distinct campus programatic elements, [EDU]Scape, [LIVE]Scape, and [MIND]Scape. In order to socially activate the core of the campus, a ‘social channel’ was dug out to stitch together these three very different elements of the new campus master plan. Lastly, in order to create a visual presence for this new Jupiter FAU campus, iconic gateways were created at the important intersections with the outside community.

[BAND] SCAPE
The FAU John D. Macarthur campus currently embodies many of the issues that come with modern day suburban archipelagos. [BAND]Scape aims to enhance the learning/living environment by remidiating the separation from the outside community present on the existing campus.
