This 15,000 sf renovation inhabits the first and second floors of a healthcare highrise designed by former fifth year architecture students at KU called Aquavista Memory Care Facility. With pre-existing rooms for the residents and hospital services in the upper levels, Ensemble provides all the amenity spaces including a lobby, store, daycare, movie theater, music room, craft room, cafe, restaurant, spa and salon, wellness room, art gallery, nooks, and gender neutral restrooms.

02 Curved Walls Music is critical to memory and mood. Ensemble implements all aspects of music to create a sense of normalcy for residents as they transition into a new lifestyle. Rhythm, balance, and fluidity, throughout the design will set the tone for an organic program with contrasting hues to stimulate the residents and assist in wayfinding.

LOBBY With an open plan centered around the core, residents with Alzheimer’s are able to easily situate themselves with great visual connections. Curved walls and linear rhythmic patterns encourages circulation. If residents need to resituate themselves within the space, wayfinding is maximized by the inimitable circular ceiling drop downs designed around the existing columns.

MUSIC ROOM Music is one of the last things people with dimentia remember.

In the Music Room, residents and their loved ones can enjoy and play music while also receiving music therapy. The acoustical circle pendants alongside the linear, color-contrasting acoustic panels and wood slats create an upbeat stimulating environment for the users.

CRAFT ROOM Residents can spend time and interact with their loved ones. The dry-erase wall surface and tackable acoustic panels in addition to the sliding doors maximize the versatility of the space. SImilar to the adjacent music room, the acoustical circle light pendants create a visual wayfinding tool for the residence to recognize where they are.

Located on the corner of 11th St. and Massachusetts St in Lawrence, KS, this 20,000 sf Wellness Market provides both physical and mental amenities while also creating a community gathering space. Responding to the urban edge, the design prioritizes outdoor seating areas, commercial public spaces, and implements green spaces to connect the users to nature. Passive cooling strategies and natural daylighting is utilized in the building design to not only promote wellness for the users but also for the environment.

Located in the diverse neighborhood of West Colfax, this 15,000 sf site is a mixed use affordable housing project. Creating a market hub to ignite community connections through food and art, this culmination celebrates local artists, chefs, and the diverse culture of West Colfax. For the initial site research and urban street design, we were in groups where we developed a physical model of our site and surrounding buildings.

Collaboration took place to reimagine the streetscape and create a pedestrian and bike friendly area. The following work is individual, required to build mass timber podium style sturcture with underground parking.

The Refresh Primary Clinic is a full renovation located on the 14th floor of the John Hancock Buiding. Inspired by oranges, the youthful and organic feel energizes patients and physicians to focus on their health and wellness. The Clinic’s warm ambiance embraces patients and helps facilitate a strong relationship with their physician.

FREEL ANCE WORK project BISON PRAIRIE PLAINS PROPERTY

This neighborhood property, located in Kansas City, MO, consists of single family, multi-family, build to rent, and rentable apartments abova the 7 acre commercial site, and a pool and clubhouse for the residents. Working directly with the client every week, I was tasked with creating conceptual massings, overall site plans, and renderings of the designs. The concept behind the Bison Prairie Plains development is heavily influenced by the Native American Tribes and the plains bison lifestyle and traits. Focusing on the commercial site and clubhouse for residents in the neighborhood, this 10 acre program consists of various retail, food & beverage amenities, pharmacy, bank, and an open event space.

During my Internship at Gould Evans, in Kansas City, MO, I had the opportunity to assist them in curating physical finish boards with renders for Building 3 of the Garmin Project. With contruction already started, my finish boards and renders were used on site as a tool during construction in order to visualize what the interior environment will look like.

This pro brono interior renovation of the Incubator Room in the American Jazz Museum was done in correlation with the rebranding of the space. I had the pleasure of designing a multimedia graphic wall for the users to write and tack things on while also showcasing their new logo. Inspired by the creative improvisation of jazz, my design consisted of bold geometric shapes overlapping eachother to add a bright, playful tone to the space.

During my Internship at FInkle + Williams Architecture in Lenexa, KS, I worked on a multitude of commercial projects in all types of phases as well as worked with clients and went on site visits to be able to design their vision.

The Veterans Community Project was a reoccurring client where I designed a small warehouse renovation from start to finish in Kansas City, MO, completed a site layout for their tiny home community in Oklahoma City, and detailed facade elevations for the tiny homes in Sioux Falls.

During my Internship at FInkle + Williams Architecture, I also helped design an office TI project and worked closely with clients to help select furniture, decide on materials, and floor plan options.

For this interior renovation of the lobby and restrooms spaces of this church, I helped design lobby options with different diesgins and material finishes. I also collaborated with team members to model out the worship space.

FURNITURE DESIGN BUD’S PEDESTAL material Music is a language in which people WOOD communicate with. It brings people together and when all other language is forgotten, time music is the last thing people remember.

FALL 2021 My Grandpa (Bud) and I used music to communicate when his dimentia clouded his professor memory. Bud’s Pedestal breaks down the two ANN HOSSLER sides of a conversation. When combined, the conversation becomes a song, both harmonizing and supporting one another. The two parts are distinguished by the stain of wood, and hollow versus not hollow cubes. To capture the organic playfulness of music, each cube has rounded edges.

2021 HERMAN MILLER MAGIS PUPPY DESIGN CHALLENGE location A handful of my classmates JOHN A. MARSHALL and I had the opportunity CO., LENEXA,KS to participate in the 2021 Herman Miller Magis Puppy team members Challenge. Our design was KATIE BASTA to cut a section through LUIS CARDOZA the middle of the puppy EMMA DAVIS to uncover its anatomy AMELIA FAGER underneath. Using various EMILY GEGG textiles and crafting ANN HOSSLER materials to construct SOPHIA JONES the bones, muscles, and ALEXIS NICHOLS major organs, “Marvin,” the ANDREW POTTINGER puppy, ended up winning KAITLIN SALANSKI the “Most Innovative” LILY WILKERSON award.
