Minimalist in its true nature Minimalism is not just an art movement or an aspect of our design language. For us it’s a mindset, philosophy and a way of living.
Helen Leetsar Designer and co-founder of Kaissu
I truly believe that less is more. So, for me, the whole concept of Kaissu begins and ends with this old saying. Minimalism as the base of our everyday choices is a thankful and respectful way of living. We are part of nature, and there is no greater designer than nature itself. And understanding that has brought me here, where I am as a designer. The brand was established in 2017, focusing initially on bedrooms, but new ideas have guided us further. Always in search of exquisite beauty. Slim shapes, fine lines, and high-quality materials define Kaissu’s design the most. In our creations, traditional furniture pieces find new expression in the unique form of Kaissu. Taken from the wilderness and inspired by its unique beauty. Pure and crisp. Modern, yet valuing traditions. Products are manufactured in small volumes, making each piece unique. We primarily use natural wood, ensuring that every item has its own story to tell, shaped by nature over time. While developing and testing our core pieces in our own production, we also collaborate with Estonia’s best and most qualified crafters and manufacturers. On the following pages, you’ll find the best that nature can offer. Some of it has been formed into beautiful artwork of furniture; some of it has been collected and brought to you through our own camera lens here in Estonia, the very northern corner of Europe. Please enjoy!
Went for a walk to the seaside this weekend. Couldn’t help but capture the simple beauty we’re surrounded by.
Responsible and respectful Sustainability' is often seen as a broad concept rather than a precise, attainable goal. At Kaissu, we are committed to highlighting the tangible, respectful steps that value the environment, the creator, and the buyer alike. Near zero-waste production. Through smart nesting, we can achieve sustainable production, managing to manufacture with almost no waste. And from these small remnants, we strive to create new, delightful design elements. Durable, renewable and reusable materials only. We use durable, renewable, and reusable materials. This way, we can keep recycling the furniture – our furniture can be handed down to grandchildren or someone’s old becomes someone else’s new without appearing damaged or worn. And if, one day, the piece of furniture can no longer find a new owner, it will not become a burden on nature, but instead, a part of it. Eco packaging Our minimalist designs are packed in equally minimalist packaging while ensuring the minimal time needed to put the items into use. Smaller packaging means fewer resources required for manufacturing and transportation. Same principles apply - they need to be durable, reusable or biodegradable. Give back to nature There is currently a poor diversity of tree species in Estonian forests. We’re especially lacking broadleaved species (oak, ash, elm, basswood, maple etc.) and mixed forests. Although all types of wood are cut down for economic reasons, most reforestation efforts include only spruce, pine, and birch. With the help of Koosloodus Foundation, Kaissu can give back to nature – for each piece of oak furniture purchased, we will plant a broadleaf tree.
