In the wake of a disastrous first half-year for both equity and fixed-income investors, a lot of bad news – and even a mild recession – is already priced in on the financial markets now. Meanwhile, though, the bar for upside surprises is low, and the prospects for the second half of this year are better than they perhaps seem.

The investment climate has gotten rougher this year and investors’ hunger for returns has moderated, not just on public stock markets, but also in the world of private equity. The private equity asset class is still in robust shape, but the rising interest-rate level is bound to lead to a valuation rerating on private markets, just like it has on public markets. However, this new reality doesn’t necessarily augur something bad for investors. On the contrary, it also presents an opportunity.

ESG: Sustainability corner ISG E (]vPv]v˙]]M
Sustainability investing has long been enjoying growing popularity, but has been cast in a somewhat negative light lately. Greenwashing scandals, calls for stricter regulation, and definition problems were joined in the first half of this year by a poor return performance. The investment industry evidently faces challenges with regard to ESG, but it is premature to sound the death knell for the sustainability megatrend.
