August – Monday
Before lunch we met up in in Gallery “Balta” to hang and curate the up coming exhibition. We assisted each other and discussed how to hang our textile art pieces.
In the afternoon the group visited Lithuanian artist association gallery “Drobė“, located in a historical textile factory „Drobė“Artist Assocoation in Kaunas.
Important discussions of network and Gallery work took place after Artist and Head of Artist Association
Rebecka Bruder presented the association member Gallery and their way of working.
The evening activity was the event and pop up exhibition “Textile talk/Talk Textile” We had vernissage and opening at Gallery “Balta”.
Textile talks, each artist presented their work.
6 August – Tuesday
A new day and the the group started with a road trip travelling to Rumšiškės, visiting Ethnography Museum of Lithuania. Before lunch we had a workshop “Lithuania Sashes – from Tradition to Innovation” and lecture
with artist and head of archives of textile Rasma Noreikytė “Archaic Textile and Rituals”, in Ethnography Museum of Lithuania, Rumšiškės.
Late afternoon we arrived back at accommodation in Makniūnai village, Alytus district, Lithuania
7 August – Wednesday
This day was the big workshop day, presentation and lecture followed by a workshop in the topic “Textile Talk/ Talk Textile”. Artist Kreta Kardišiūtė presented her outdoor land art project of different venues.
We practiced “Talk with Textile – Talk with Nature”. The aim of the workshop is to find a relationship with nature, to talk to nature through textile methods. Create a situation, installation, action and capture it with the help of photo and video media.
In the evening discussions and reflection of the day took place over a concluding dinner.
8 August – Thursday
This day we traveled to Marcinkonys to visit “Verpėjos” organisation, close to Belarus border. https:// verpejos. lt/about/?lang=en Verpėjos (The
Spinners) is artist run initiative founded in 2017 by artist Laura Garbštienė to research and discuss rural traditional lifestyle and nature preservation, activate discourse on changes and processes, both local and global. Working with contemporary artists, curators, craftspeople and nature scientists “Verpėjos” organise interdisciplinary workshops, symposiums and exhibitions. We had lunch in Merkinė, traditional Lithuanian kitchen. On the way back we stoped at Merkinės Pyramid, The Place of Spiritual Experience and Healing https://merkinespiramide.lt/en/ homepage/
Back in Makniūnai village, Alytus district, Lithuania, we had the opportunity experience Lithuanian sauna ritual.
9 August –
Travelling day, back in Kaunas we visited National Museum of K. M. Čiurlionis, Kaunas Picture Gallery, Kaunas Photography Gallery, Galery „ Meno Parkas“
