KABANA LADIES: Meet Leigh

How did you first become interested in tv presenting and fashion styling, and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

I started on TV way back when I was 11 as part of the singing group on a national children's program called " Happy go Round". My singing led me to performing on many TV shows and in 1987 after singing on a local morning show called 'Living" I was asked to join Ian Skippen as Co -Host From then I started emceeing events - awards nights, fashion parades, launches etc So singing took a back seat and I started doing more TV - presenting, reporting, hosting & interviewing This led to the role of fashion reporter on Channel 9's "Extra" Program which opened the door to live fashion compering and styling.

What role does fashion play in your self-expression and self-confidence?

Fashion is a very big part of my marketing With the TV work and live emcee work I still do, I need to always present well on and off stage You never know who is watching or who you might run into This doesn't mean I live in corporate wear - in fact, most of my wardrobe is smart casual. As you know with the Kabana ranges, it is easy to dress an outfit up or down. I also like colour, it definitely lifts my self confidence and just makes me feel good.

How would you describe your personal fashion style in a few words or phrases?

I know we use the term a lot in our "Australian Lifestyle dressing" videos - but effortless elegance would best sum up my wardrobe Also easy wear and care as I avoid ironing at all costs

How important is comfort to you when choosing clothing and accessories?

Comfort is a high priority You can tell if someone is not comfortable in what they are wearing - they tend to fidget and become more subdued in their presence due to their discomfort

What colours do you feel most confident and comfortable wearing?

I love all the hues of blue and I do think I am a Pink girl. However, patterns that incorporate a myriad of colours are another favourite as I think they take my fashion to another level and add more fun and vibrancy to my outfits

How do you decide when it's time to update your wardrobe or add new pieces to it?

I definitely have my favourites that I can't part with, but by adding some new pieces that are on trend for that season - I get the best of both worlds, old and new.

Are there any fashion items you ' ve been wanting to add to your transeasonal collection recentlly?

Yes, a pair of wide-leg jeans and a fun jacket That will lift my wardrobe

How does the season or weather influence your fashion choices, and do you have any favourite seasonal styles?

I' m a summer girl I love dresses and flats When our temperatures drop, I just throw on sneakers and a jacket I'm not good with cold weather

Can you share any insider tips or tricks for achieving a polished and cohesive look?

The old saying "keep it simple" is a good one. Dressing shouldn't be a chore - and if it is, it might be time for a wardrobe makeover Also, when you are looking to add to your wardrobe - don't be afraid to take your dress, pants or shirt that you are trying to match with you Ask the staff for their help as they know their stock and you might be surprised with the combinations you walk away with But if you don't feel comfortable you probably will avoid it in your wardrobe, so don't buy it for the sake of it.
