Our forefathers established such an institution as Clarkdale High School which time and tradition have enriched. This heritage of the past has been preserved for us by the readers of today. Here, thanks to those who came before us, may be bred a love for knowledge and the joys that re­ sult from it; here may be developed abilities Ll-iat bear fruit in the future; and here priceless friendships may be formed. It is with feelings of deep apprecia­ tion, that we, the class of 1950, dedicate this annual to our friends, the town of Clarkdale, Arizona.

THE 1950 ALCHEMIST To us, Clarkdale High School means progress; a symbol of happy hours spent in study, work, activities and joyful association. In other words this is where we learn to live, and live to learn.

To others, this ALCHEMIST is intended to give a conception of our lives at Clarkdale High School-how we work, study and play.

This book will · often be a means of reviving pleasant memories to the class of 1950 and our companions.

The National Honor Society was host for the Third. Annual Convention' uf the Honor Societies in Northern Arizona this year. The· cc;mvention, the first to be held in Clarkdale, was a great success. About One Hundred and Twenty Delegates were entertained from Winslow, Flagstaff, Kingman, Prescott, and Clarkdale.

The Glee Club and Ensemble, directed by Mrs. Sherman, supplied music for many of the important events during the year. In April they participated in the Verde Valley Follies and in May they held their arinual Spring Concert. They closed the year by singin g for the Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises of C. H. S. for 1950.

They were also honored by be­ ing able lo participate in Arizona's own Salad Bowl Parade in Phoenix, on January 2, 1950.

SCHOOL. SECRETARY Mr. Chas. W. Fairfield came to Clarkdale High School on February 4, 1947. He has been active in State Politics and has held state offices. Mr. Fairfield issues the excuses everyone needs so badly when they are absent, tardy or want admittance to a class. He is also C.H.S.' s book and supply store, keeping on hand all the supplies students need to carry on in school. He is always helping students by answering their many questions and is really a great help to Clarkdale High School and is one person it would be hard to get along without.

Dear Mable, Today we went down to the High School to register. Seems funny, but I can hardly wait until next Mo:1day. Co�ch -winters slc:rted football practice last week, the 25th of Aug­ ust, and I'm sure anxious to see our first game.

Friday September 9, 1949 Dear Mable, Tonight is the night of. the first school dance this year, the Freshmen Reception. We had to have it before initiation because of all the football games already scheduled. The Drum Corps had their first meetir1g Tuesday, majorette this year will be Pat Dossin. Mrs. Sherman has some good plans mapped out for them.

Thursday September 15, 1949 Dear Mable, Today, the poor little Freshmen were initiated. WOW! what a sight! Yesterday they v-rent to the ''C" with most of the Seniors going along to see that a good job was done, and it was, too! Jerry and Judy made good models in the assembly Tuesday to show their fellow classmen what all good Freshmen would wear today. Tomorrow we play our first ga1r1e with Holbrook. The boys will leave tomorrow morning. Hope they win!

Dear Mable, We had a full week. St. Johns beat us 19-16 tonight. Monday v-1e had a very entertain­ ing national assembly. Wednesday the new officers were installed. It sure was a beautiful service. Yesterday we got to leave school for a few minutes to get x-rayed.

Friday October 29, 1949 Dear Mable, Wow! What a day! We beat Cottonwood tonight 19-6!! Was everybody happy!! The Drum Corps gave a rally this afternocn at the tennis court and burned the dummy of the Devils to arouse some spirit. Everyone attended the dance ofter the game. The Juniors spon­ sored the dance.

Friday November 4, 1949 Dear Mable, We had a two day vacation from school while the teachers went to a convention in Phoenix. Friday most of the kids went to Williams to watch us get b£:at 39-0 The Drum Corps went up and marched during the half. It was a good showing.

Dear Mable, This was another one of those busy weeks. Monday Jack Mason and Barbrua Crawford were installed into the National Honor Society. Tuesday the football boys were honored with a dinner at Kings Cafe. Today most of the annual pictures were taken. Everyone was sure primped up. Tonight St. Johns beat us in our first basketball game here 34-24.

Monday Decembei- 5, 1949 Dear Mable, What a lucky day for Velma. She will be our Princess at the Salad Bowl on New Years. The Drum Corps gals are going down to strut their stuff in the parade, too. To­ morrow each clas·s holds an important class meeting.

Wednesday December 7, 1949 Dear Mable, Today was election day again. This one was for cheer leaders. Sue, Velma, Pat Lyons and Pat Dossin will be .the cheer leaders for the basketball season. A few amendments to the constitution we·re voted on also-and passed, I might add. Tomorrow the Juniors will put on their matinee for "we the people".

Friday March 10, 1950 Dear Mable This week has been devoted almost entirely to Seniors. Tuesday they gave a preview of their play "Black Wings" to promote the sale of tickets and arouse interest. Thursday they presented the matinee. Today the Northern Arizona Hondr Society Convention was held here. It sure was a success. To­ night the Seniors gave their final performance of the play. It also was a huge success. Tomorrow a few girls will go to Prescott to hold a badminton match in preparation for the Tempe Tournament the 23rd.
