Eat & Drink Jasmine is the hottest ticket in town for date night and special celebrations, even though Murray might seem to be the most unexpected place to find amazing Thai food and sushi. The first order of business is to chow down on the crab rangoons. At the table, little crunchy pockets of crab and cream cheese with a tasty dipping sauce will appear. As a palate teaser, enjoy a side salad with the signature ginger dressing. The favorite sushi dish is the Murray roll, specifically created just for the locals. The drunken noodles and pad Thai come in a close second.

Matt B’s Main Street Pizza

The aroma of freshly-made tomato sauce, cooked-to-order pizza and being greeted like a local makes Matt B’s Main Street Pizza a must. You can order by the slice or individualize a whole pie. The owner, who creates an at-home feel when he begins assembling their favorite pizza before they even order, usually loves to welcome the locals. Many Murray natives come in for the atmosphere, but don’t leave without the famous mouth-watering honey sticks and a slice of veggie pie. Never had broccoli on a pizza? Matt B’s combinations on pizza might seem a bit unusual, but are always pleasing to the taste buds.

H.R.H. Dumplins

is the place where the ladies of Murray do lunch.

It is hard to decide what Dumplins’ is most famous for, the gigantic homemade rolls with honey butter or the towering fresh cakes made daily. In a year’s time, more than 5,000 cakes are created! The fruit tea is the drink to order to dine like a local. Interesting twists on salads and chicken sandwiches are constants on the menu. The briar club salad offers cashews and raisins along with a homemade orange-yogurt sauce. Top the salad off with a huge piece of strawberry cake and call it a day.

Mugsy’s Hideout

is the local favorite for authentic Chicago-style food. Jay and Maria Baron moved south over ten years ago and have been serving up the tastiest pizza downtown since then. Homemade meatball subs and fried ravioli are mouth-watering and completely satisfying. On Friday nights, Jay offers a pasta special that isn’t on the menu.

Get there early and hope he has made lobster ravioli!

Duncan Market

is the place to stop on the way out to Kentucky Lake. Once an old gas station and convenience store, a new modern twist has turned this joint into the hotspot for a crispy, thin diner-style burger, complete with crunchy fries and frothy milkshake. Make the guilty pleasure a true delight - go on and add cheese to the burger. You won’t regret it.

he city is well known in the region for being a destination for boutique shopping. Multiple clothing shops, jewelers and home decor stores can be found in Murray.

Just south of town, Hazel, Kentucky, is an antique-lovers paradise. From locally-owned shops on the court square to your favorite chain store, there is an abundance of shopping options in Murray.

Outdoor DISC GOLF

The Central Park Disc Golf Course is the most used facility in the park.

Even in winter, the course constantly has disc golf enthusiasts playing holes looking to improve a score. The 18hole course has a total length of more than 5,200 feet with a par of 58.

GOLF

The American Society of Golf Architects designated the Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course as one of the best-designed, 18-hole courses in America. Measuring 6,592 yards from the championship tees, the par-71 layout has two distinct nines, requiring a wide array of shot-making.

EXPLORE

Land Between the Lakes, just 15 minutes from Murray, offers 170,000 acres of wildlife nestled between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.

The two lakes combined have more than 3,000 miles of water. Enjoy a prehistoric-like adventure while driving through LBL’s Elk and Bison Prairie. Stop at Duncan Market on the way out to the LBL.

FISH

Kentucky Lake is known as the “Crappie Capital” of the world and the fish can be caught year round. Fish for one of Kentucky Lake’s exceptional populations of large-mouth bass.

Entertainment MUSIC

Located in the heart of MSU’s campus, just off Olive Boulevard and 15th Street, historic Lovett Auditorium is one of the four original structures on campus, dating back to 1926. Worldrenowned performers, artists and speakers have graced the stage of Lovett Auditorium. With a seating capacity of approximately 2,500, Lovett has hosted thousands of events over the years.

THEATRE

The local community theatre is one of the oldest companies in Kentucky.

Playhouse in the Park is situated in a 1907 train depot in Central Park, providing an added dramatic experience to each play. The local theatre members perform a spectacular range of productions from musicals like Beauty and the Beast, to more serious productions such as Doubt.

ART

Fine arts thrive in Murray. The Clara M. Eagle Art Gallery is a multi-level exhibition space allowing visitors to experience art on Murray State University’s campus. View national juried shows and current student works. Murray Art Guild, a local non-profit cultural organization, offers classes and workshops to develop the talent of local artists in all mediums. The MAG hosts two large juried exhibits, in the spring and fall, showcasing local, regional and MSU student art.

QUILTS

In 2010, only a few barn quilts existed in Calloway County. Since that time, the Calloway County Quilt Trail has grown to more than 60 quilts all over the county. The trail connects the beautiful country roads making for a scenic drive. Each quilt pattern has its own unique story behind it.

Downtown

T

he court square is home to a variety of specialty shops, from bookstores to boutique clothing and restaurants, where you can find homemade pastries and Chicagostyle pizza. All year long, events are taking place like the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Ice Cream Festival to the Downtown Farmers Market and Dickens’ Downtown, the official kickoff to the Christmas season.

Downtown Downtown Murray used

to be the place to trade livestock, goods, buy groceries, see the doctor, board a train or see a movie. Although times have changed, downtown is still as vibrant as ever. More than 1,600 people work in the downtown area each day. All year long, events are taking place near the court square. Even with a chill in the air, Easter on the Square welcomes spring with an early morning egg hunt and visit from Jellybean the Easter Bunny. Snow might be falling, but that only makes Dickens’ Downtown even more magical. The event is the official kick-off of the Christmas season for Murray, including the lighting of the community Christmas tree, followed by free events and late-evening shopping around the court square.

The Downtown Farmers Market

fills the court square with fruits, vegetables and hand-crafted items every Saturday morning, May-October. This ritual has become the social gathering place on the weekends. Grab a few ears of Mr. Wurth’s peaches n’ cream corn and some crisp green beans from Mr. Copeland. Our Farmers Market is proudly certified as a “Kentucky Proud” market, focusing on supporting local farmers and boosting our economy. In recent years, the market has grown to more than 40 vendors during peak-season.

urray State University is a regional state university, deeply rooted in traditions and southern hospitality. Tradition

In the quad of Murray State’s campus sits a tree with at least 50 pairs of mismatched shoes nailed to it. According to murraystate.edu, no one can say when the tradition of the shoe tree began, but it has become an integral part of the school’s history.

Sports

The Murray State University Racers compete in fifteen Division I sports as a founding member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Well known nationally as a top mid-major in men’s basketball, the Racers have tallied 28 consecutive winning seasons and 15 trips to the NCAA Tournament.

In the fall, Roy Stewart Stadium is home of the highscoring Racer football team. Come over and cheer on Racer One as the thoroughbred laps the track after each Racer touchdown and enjoy the halftime performance by the award-winning Racer Band.
