ANNUAL REPORT

OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2012 was a banner year for the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber received recognition from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives garnering Awards of Excellence in Publications for the Viewbook & Relocation Guide and for Membership Retention. Nationally The Chamber was recognized by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives with the Bronze Award for Communication Excellence for the Viewbook & Relocation Guide as well as the 2012 ACCE Chamber of the Year Award in the $500k and below revenue category. Additionally The Chamber was named to the Top 10 in the nation for Membership Retention.

NETWORKING

SEMINARS

Attendance at our Business @ Breakfast reached over 1,000 for the year. Business @ Breakfast Events in 2012 featured the Annual State of the City/County, LT. Gov. Jerry Abramson, MSU Head Coach Chris Hatcher, State Legislature Candidate Forum, and MSU Safe Community Designation.

With a heavy focus on business development, The Chamber offered seminars through its Small Business Academy, a 10 week program with topics ranging from banking to social media.

Additional seminar opportunities made available to the membership where: Shining Stars With Style focused on professional appearance, Innovations Communication with Bill Graham, Constant Contact E-mail Marketing, and How to Lead People and Organizations with Glenn Sheppard.

The 2012 85th Annual Dinner was a great success with over 400 in attendance. The evening featured MSU Basketball Coach Steve Prohm as keynote who later was recognized as the Citizen of the Year.

Various business awards and recognition of the 2012 Leadership Murray Class took place as well.

The Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce is the catalyst for a thriving, nationally competitive, and economically diverse business community.

PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Our award winning Viewbook & Relocation Guide offered our members a chance to get out in front of visitors, the community, and those looking too move to Murray. Each year The Chamber distributes 3,000 of these full color glossy guides to promote the businesses and community. The Chamber also produced 7,500 maps of the community featuring various members who advertised. The Murray Map and Street Guide has a shelf life of 18 months. Our newly revamped website offered information to over 150,000 unique visitors and the newly created advertising co-op allowed 40 businesses to advertise on radio, print, and television.

ADVOCACY The Chamber was heavily involved in the drive to replace the span at Eggner Ferry Bridge that was destroyed by a super tanker in January which saw the completion of the repair by May. Additionally The Chamber began the process of lobbying the state legislature to increase the speed limit on tourism corridor 68/80 from Mayfield to Cadiz in coordination with the Mayfield/Graves County Chamber.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & RETENTION The creation of the Downtown Council contributed to the rise in awareness and traffic to our downtown businesses. The council consists of downtown business owners who gather to determine new opportunities to promote our vibrant downtown area.

Membership Retention was recognized in the Top 10 category by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives at ninety-four percent. Ribbon Cuttings for more than 40 new members were also held during the year.
