THE FUTURE OF NATURE INTEGRATED
IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT // ACCESS, PLAY, DELIGHT
Clinton Elementary_Lincoln, NE
The intention of this biophilic classroom is to provide an atmosphere where the outdoors and indoors seamlessly merge into one cohesive environment that is safe and inclusive for our youth. The designed space will allow children growing up in urban communities to have the wonderous benefits of nature right at their finger tips. Exposure to even the slightest amount of nature provides not only physical health benefits, but cognitive benefits too. Greenspaces let children roam and explore, imagine and create; but the built-interior environment can do just the same. Open learning zones allow for effortless circulation and navigation. For visual stimulant and overall design direction, natural landscapes found outside the realm of Lincoln, NE designate open learning zones. These designed topographies expose children to new locations they more than likely have never experienced first-hand. By blurring the harsh divide between the natural and built-interior environment, children will be able to thrive and uphold a sustainable lifestyle that can passed on and be enjoyed by future generations.
7
Students are guided on an all-day “outdoor” journey that takes them through gardens, forests, mountains, and grasslands. The time spent inside their adventure land is colorful, imaginative, inviting, and cozy. The children are able to navigate the various terrains with ease and confidence.

THE FUTURE OF NATURE INTEGRATED IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT // EDUCATION, GROWTH, SUSTAINABLE FOODS
CONGREENGATE MARKET
The intention of this project is to provide an interior environment that enriches the lives of Lincoln’s urban residents via sustainable and accessible food systems. Biophilic design drives the form, function, and ambiance of the renovated parking garage. The focus of the new public market/retail typology is centered on improving the health and well-being of its occupants, as well as simultaneously revitalizing the city’s urban landscape.
An open concept layout will allow occupants to seamlessly navigate between local food kiosks and retail shops, find moments to lounge, and casually dine. The nature-inspired atmosphere is programmed to be inviting, communal, and relaxing. The enhanced urban interior will help build a meaningful connection between urban agriculture, the built-environment, and community belonging.
The purpose of Congreengate Market is to provide an inclusive environment for local vendors and community members to congregate (hence the name of the market) and connect with one another; all the while enveloped in purposeful biophilic intent.
