he spring market will be here soon. Luxury home sellers, when you are looking for a real estate agent to market and sell your home, what is most important to you? 2021 was a big year for many realtors, and many will gauge their success primarily by touting their volume.

Luxury sellers, when interviewing prospective real estate agents, I suggest you ask each agent, “What is your average selling price?”.

he past year has also been a whirlwind for the real estate market. As home prices steadily rose due to low inventory, many homeowners took advantage of the increased home values and low interest rates, and decided

he Barrington Country real estate market in 2021 kept up similar market trends from 2020. The Dollar Volume of Closed Sales was up 31.8% from December 2020, which shows us that 2021 was even bigger than 2020. I know for my team especially, 2021 was one of our best years yet.

n the Barrington area (Area 10 in the MLS), the average sales price was up 20.5% December 2021 versus December 2020, averaging at a price of approximately $689K.

Feel free to use this information when interviewing prospective agents.

This spike in average sales price is likely due to the drop in inventory levels, which dropped 46.7% from December 2020 in Area 10. Experts predict that 2022 may see a shift in the real estate market, one that brings balance back to the market.”1

When traveling to Chicago with her husband, she had dinner in downtown Barrington, walked around, and fell in love with Barrington’s charm.

She now lives in Barrington Hills with her husband, Tyler, and two boys, Ryker (3) and Asher (1). She’s spent the past ten years of her career in high-tech sales and is currently a Vice President for Qualtrics, a SaaS company. Mix Master Hoffman Estates’ Vince Garcia moves to the beat of his own drum—firmly planting himself in the music industry as a professional disc jockey, producer, and mentor.

I

f you were a kid who liked to listen to the radio in the 80s, Chicago was the town to do it in.

“I have always loved music,” says Vince Garcia of Hoffman Estates, recalling stories of doing Michael Jackson’s famous moonwalk almost as soon as he took his first steps.

“When I was in high school, all I wanted to do was grow up and be a DJ [disc jockey] on Chicago’s B96. The DJs that worked on that station were legends and I made a promise to myself, that one day I would be one, too.”

Garcia’s parents were on board to help his dream come true, as long as he promised to get an education first.

“My mom and dad were great,” he recalls. “They bought me all my gear, and in return, I made National Honor Society and stuck with soccer and gymnastics.”

From an early age, Garcia seemed to have what it took to be a tastemaker in music—someone who knew a hit before anyone else did. His Chicago roots gave him an appreciation and passion for house music, which helped set the stage for his deep knowledge of dance music from all parts of the world. It came as a surprise to no one when Garcia was hired for his dream job as a DJ for B96 under the name “DJ Flipside.”

“People ask me how I came up with my radio name and it was really three things,” he says. “‘Flip’ is a nod to my Philippine heritage and to all the gymnastics my parents had me doing when I was a kid. It’s also what we call the ‘b’ side—or the unpopular side—of a record.”

When Garcia was in college, he met DJ Speed who was the first hip-hop radio personality on B96. It was he who introduced Garcia to a number of people in the radio business who ultimately helped

get him in the door at B96.

Garcia is best known for his highly rated “Flipside at Five” mix show on B96, as well as 104.3 Jams—a throwback station—in Chicago. He has also expanded his reach to Fire Lane in Los Angeles, 98.7 Amp Detroit, Hot 95-7 Houston, along with guest spots on Power 106 in Los Angeles and 92.3 Amp in New York City.

While working at B96, Garcia formed the Jump Smokers, an electro house music group. As the producer of Jump Smokers, Garcia created official remixes with many of the top names in the music industry including Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, Pitbull, Pink, Rihanna, Usher—more than 200 in total. Some of his latest remix work includes Mariah Carey, Anne Marie, AJR, and Foster The People.

“Before the pandemic, we were traveling all over the world, Las Vegas to Manila, Miami to Singapore, Atlantic City to Indonesia,” Garcia says, recalling pranks a certain Enrique Iglesias liked to play while on the road. “It was an exciting time, but with COVID-19, we had to change gears.

I learned about Twitch, which is this streaming service for music, and I was able to keep producing music.

People from all over the world were able to find me, and our music was still being played. By staying connected to the industry in this way, I was still able to make a living and earn money when so many things were shut down.”

Although the coronavirus wreaked havoc on event venues, Garcia had long since established himself as the official DJ for the Chicago Bulls, the U.S. National Soccer Team, and the Northwestern University Basketball Team. As restrictions have started to lift, Garcia’s professional life is beginning to return to pre-pandemic levels.

This fall, Garcia became the official DJ for the Chicago House Athletic Club (AC), an American professional men’s soccer club based in Bridgeview.

“It’s been such a great thing,” says Garcia about his position with the Chicago House AC. “The team has really embodied the culture of house music, which is such an important part of Chicago. It’s awesome helping this new team build its brand through music.”

Garcia has enjoyed reconnecting with the soccer world, a sport that meant a lot to him as he was growing up—both his father and brother are coaches in the soccer world. In November, Garcia was part of the fanfare surrounding the U.S. Men’s National Soccer team’s effort to qualify for the World Cup. “The U.S. team had a match up with Mexico and there was a lot of smack being talked between the two teams leading up to the game,” he shares. “The Mexican goal keeper suggested in an interview that the United States looked in the mirror and hoped to see Mexico, suggesting that the Americans wanted to mold themselves as a team in their rivals’ image. A U.S. Player named Christian Pulisic wrote ‘man in the mirror’ on his undershirt that he wore hidden under his jersey at the game. After Pulisic scored, he revealed his shirt to the crowd and they went crazy! When the U.S. team ultimately won, my boss made the call for me to play Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” to kind of rub it in. It was such a great moment and it showed the power of music. It was incredible to see the media pick up on this and just run with it.”

The Chicago Bulls organization is also tapping into Garcia’s deep skill set to create more dynamic half-time shows. “We—myself and Marquee—have created some original music specifically for the Bulls’ half-time show for the Pride Game. We’ve also produced a song featuring King Marie called ‘Ready’ that plays every single game. I’m so proud of this piece and how the Bulls as an organization is making music a central part of its programming,” Garcia adds.

Networking has been one of the critical factors in Garcia’s success—something he never forgets.

“I will always be grateful to those who paved the way for me,” he says. “Even though I was young when I started my career, I was always surrounded by good people who wanted to help me succeed.

As I continue to move ahead, I want to make sure that I give back and help young musicians meet people and learn the skills they need to make it in this business. Giving back will always be part of what I do—what I create.”

Goal-driven Garcia hasn’t stopped dreaming big since he achieved his goal of being a fixture on one of Chicago’s most popular radio stations.

“I always have to have a goal,” he says. “I love producing music—both working with other artists and some of my own. Being nominated for a Grammy would be an awesome next goal, and then winning a Grammy—now that would be something.”

entrepreneurship, are offered to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who are taught the art of business from ideation to execution, and everything in between. Led by Business Incubator teacher, Hagop Soulakian, this course was introduced in 2013 and is believed to be the first of its kind in the

nation. The Business Incubator program is what the first year of the course is called, where students are put into groups to identify a problem they’d like to solve. Students then put a business model together and validate their model through focus groups and interviewing potential clients. Their model

is then presented to a board of investors in search of a small grant to test the model in action. The final business model is then presented (along with its valuation) to investors who determine which of the groups will receive additional grant money to make the idea come to life. Once a group is granted funding, they qualify for the Accelerator Program—the name of the second year of the course.

For senior Regan Albertson and juniors Mikey Lindh and Ryan Tripathy, that’s exactly how their business, DogWare, LLC, took off. The team was invited to the Accelerator Program after earning funding from a board of investors in May of 2021. Shortly thereafter, junior Kate Lubinsky was hired to join the team.

DogWare is an innovative dog leash that doesn’t tangle. The idea came about when Tripathy noticed the leashes of his two dogs, Andy and Ellie, would get tangled when he took them on walks. “This was not only hectic, but it resulted in Ellie falling over and almost hurting herself,” says Tripathy. “Soon after I realized there needed to be a solution to this problem.”

After some trial and error, the students came up with an innovative design to solve the issue. “Originally we had tape and wire wrapped around our leash,” says Albertson.

“After several rounds of testing and focus groups, we landed on heated tubing for both use and aesthetic purposes.” The leash now consists of braided polypropylene wrapped in plastic heat-shrink tubing, and it comes in three different sizes and various colors.

“As soon as we migrated into the Accelerator Program you could see the difference from day one,” says Lindh. “[Mr. Soulakian] provided us with a marketing course which helped out our business with all marketing needs and I think this is the reason why we have so many online sales.”

“Next year Regan is graduating—which will be an adjustment—but she is very dedicated to the business and will continue working on it from college while Ryan, Mikey, and I will continue to work on the business throughout our senior year of high school,” says Lubinsky. “After we all graduate high school, we plan to continue to develop DogWare in college.”

As for seniors Sofia Cesarone and Abby Whitaker, and junior Megan DeGrazia, they took over an existing business called Community Butler—a service that connects the community to local high school students to perform tasks such as lawn care, snow removal, babysitting, and other services. It was founded by Barrington High School alumni Ally Koshobe, Paddy Furlong, and Miles Patel, who all still oversee the business in various roles.

At the end of May last year, Cesarone was hired as marketing manager, Whitaker as operations manager, and DeGrazia as the financial manager. “We are always looking for new ‘butlers,’ which is what we call the people who do the jobs,” says Cesarone. “In fact, we have a sign-up form on our website and anyone that meets the qualifications can become a butler, join the group, and get paid.”

“The business began operations in 2020, and currently we are fully operating with new and old customer bookings every week,” says Cesarone. “We are also in the process of adding new jobs—such as music lessons— and are constantly brainstorming new ways to improve and expand our business.” The goal for Community Butler is to be able to expand to other areas outside of Barrington.

“We are currently working on that right now by seeking out new butlers and marketing outlets in those areas,” she says.

“The main growth I see in my students is their confidence level,” says Soulakian. “They are more confident in how they handle themselves with others, how they manage their time, and have become empowered to help themselves in successfully preparing for the next chapter of their lives.” Although the Business Incubator and Accelerator Program cultivates entrepreneurship, the program doesn’t just prepare students to be business leaders. Soulakian emphasizes the program uses the business aspect to assist students to develop much-needed interpersonal and intrapersonal skills for everyday life.

The Accelerator Program is unlike any other homework assignment. These courses take an idea and turn it into a real-life business that can earn students an A and the opportunity to put CEO on their resumé. A truly exciting opportunity.

C

onsider the Oyster. That food writer extraordinaire M.F.K. Fisher devoted a book of this title to bivalve mollusks speaks to their undying appeal.

Published in 1941, the book, full of Fisher’s wit, wisdom, and recipes, devotes an entire chapter to oysters’ reputation as an aphrodisiac. An astounding number of men, she says, “can tell of countless chaps whose powers have been increased nigh unto the billy goat’s, simply from eating raw cold oysters.”

Alas, she continues, such claims are “fond but false hopes.” Nonetheless, oysters’ sensual appeal cannot be denied. Tipping the pearly shell of a perfectly fresh, sea-plucked oyster to one’s lips to slip the chilled contents down the hatch, has been a special kind of ambrosia for thousands of years.

Eaten fresh, raw oysters need little adornment. Aphrodisiac or not, we’ve paired them with a Valentine’s pinking of frozen mignonette granita—a simple shaved ice made with a little red wine vinegar, peppercorns, salt, and a pinch of sugar.

For health safety, be sure to purchase oysters very fresh from a reliable source, looking for intact shells and no suspicious odors. Keep the oysters very cold and consume them within a day or two of purchase. When shucking, use clean tools and dedicated cutting boards not shared by other ready-to-eat foods.

FRESH OYSTERS WITH MIGNONETTE GRANITA INGREDIENTS • • • •

10 fresh oysters in the shell 5 peppercorns ½ cup red wine vinegar 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1 shallot, peel discarded, minced OR ½ small white onion, peeled and minced • Pinch of sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a heavy knife or mortar and pestle, crush peppercorns to break skins. In a small cooking pot over medium heat, combine vinegar with minced shallot, peppercorns, salt, and sugar. Heat to boiling and simmer for 1 minute. Remove mixture from heat. Cool.

Once room temperature, pour ingredients through a fine-mesh-strainer into a freezer safe container. Discard solids. Place container in freezer for one hour. Using the blade of a knife or tines of a fork, scrape the surface of the frozen mixture to make shavings. Return container to freezer and repeat the shaving process until you have a mound of frozen mignonette granita. Keep frozen while you shuck oysters. Using a clean kitchen towel, place oyster on clean surface. Fold towel partially over oyster, pressing down firmly with your left hand. With your right hand and an oyster shucking tool, pierce into the joint at the back of the mollusk and twist to pry open shell. Place the ½ oyster shell containing the oyster on a serving platter filled with crushed ice. Repeat with remaining oysters. Spoon a mound of the frozen mignonette onto each oyster. Sprinkle platter with fresh thyme. Serve.

ooking for an escape that isn’t a plane flight away? Look no further than downtown Chicago. The famed luxury hotel line, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, has opened the hippest new space in the historic Carbon & Carbide building—Pendry Chicago. Built in 1929, the Art Deco-style building is revered for its unique shape, reminiscent of a vintage green champagne bottle (reportedly symbolizing a response to the Prohibition era). Marrying historical significance with modern-day allure are Pendry Chicago’s all-new interiors and luxury amenities.

Upon arrival for a weekend stay, my husband and I were immediately enveloped in the moody, tranquil ambiance emanating from the chicly designed interiors.

And yet the main over-arching feeling of our weekend stay was fun. A dynamic black-and-white striped floor leads arriving guests to the luminescent reception desk, where we were greeted with a welcome drink. Should you choose, you can take your drink to the bar to have spiked—only, of course, if you know the password of the day, which for us was “ferris wheel.”

With an ideal location on Billiard room Michigan Avenue, on Friday night we chose to explore the great restaurants the city has to offer, starting first though with a fabulous cocktail at Bar Pendry. Our home away from home for the weekend was a beautiful penthouse corner suite, boasting stunning, sweeping views of the river and iconic Chicago buildings. The luxurious suite’s every detail embodied Pendry Chicago’s vision of modern-day luxury and style. It was the perfect space to relax in and launch our exploration of the city on Saturday. With the rare opportunity to be tourists in our own city, my husband and I decided to take advantage of Pendry Chicago’s phenomenal location. Popping first downstairs to the Venteux café for an espresso and basket of baguette and jam to start our day, we were taken in by the sunlight cascading through the soaring 40-foot windows. Drawing inspiration from the lively cafés of Southern France, the café’s whimsical color palette of sage green, cream, and terracotta are accented with delicate moldings and speckled gold antique mirrors throughout.

If feeling more adventurous, guests are welcome to take one of Pendry Chicago x State Bikes and pedal their way through the city. Choosing a smattering of it all, our day felt elongated and energizing, leaving us just enough time to scoot back to Pendry Chicago to enjoy sunset cocktails at the hotel’s Château Carbide. The showstopper of our weekend was in no doubt our experience at Venteux. And I do mean experience. Opened by Michelin-starred chef Donald Young, Venteux is Chicago’s new brasserie, café, and shellfish bar serving classic French fare with a contemporary twist.

Meaning “windy” in French, Venteux transports guests to the bustling brasseries that define the Parisian lifestyle, and we were no exception.

A glowing brasserie anchors a space that is lit from within with cozy banquettes. The food was incredible—a comprehensive, creative twist on classic French food that amazed us with its originality and flavors.

While everything on the menu captured our eye, we narrowed down our choices and started with two dishes whose flavors we’d never seen

paired before. The Eggs 5 Ways dish had so many twists and turns on the basic egg. In a word, wow. Starting with an omelet, topped with caviar, and then Chef Young appeared tableside to shave copious amounts of black truffle over the dish. While always a fan of mussels, never before had we seen them paired with smoked ricotta, harissa, and fennel. We were not disappointed with this unique flavor pairing.

Flown in from the coast daily, the oysters were delectable—laced with a mignotte comprised of rice vinegar, shiro dash, mirin, and blueberry.

Also hosting a spirited champagne bar, Venteux is the perfect spot to indulge in champagne and caviar. And indulge we did, with a caviar bursting with flavor on delicate crepes with a petite dollop of crème fraiche and smoked egg yolk. Throughout the entire evening, Venteux’s robust wine program complemented each course. The 5 day braised short rib is incredible, tucked into a soubise, covered with black sesame and a sauce perigueux. Venteux’s cuisine definitely strikes a delicate balance between the classic and the unexpected, and the duck—some of the best we have ever enjoyed—was no exception. Our evening ended with a decadent chocolate souffle, the perfect sweet ending to a memorable evening.

After a weekend of pure indulgence and relaxation, it was a treat to simply retrieve our car from the valet and be home with our children in a short drive’s time. rchitect Daniel Burnham was famously quoted saying that Chicago should “make no little plans.” However, the second part of that oft-cited speech might be said again today after walking through the newly completed renovation and restoration of a Gothic Revival landmark built almost a century ago as headquarters for the Chicago Tribune.

“Make big plans,” Burnham said when revealing his 1909 Plan of Chicago. “Aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing.”

Like many of the grand buildings from the gilded age of the daily newspaper, the next iteration of this icon was yet to be

realized when Chicago Tribune offices moved to a smaller location in the city. Designed as part of a 1922 architecture competition to rival the most famous buildings in the world, a Chicago icon that could have been forever lost has been reborn as the Tribune Tower Residences.

TIES THAT BIND For nearly 15 years, real estate agent and broker Maria Devins has been helping buyers and sellers with one of the most important financial transactions of their lives, creating trusted relationships that last a lifetime.

I

f you know real estate agent and broker Maria Devins, you probably know the story about how she got her first client.

The year was 2008 and the real estate market was in crash mode. The Park Ridge native was taking the train home from the Baird & Warner Institute of Training when she saw a woman crying because she and her husband were buried under two mortgages they couldn’t afford. When Devins handed the woman a tissue, she noticed her name badge from Baird & Warner. They talked, the couple hired Devins, and two weeks later the home was sold.

That was almost 15 years ago. Late last year, the same woman contacted Devins again—this time to list her childhood home.

“Her father had just died. This is the house she grew up in so it’s also an emotional process,” says Devins, a Certified Real Estate Negotiator; national and international relocations specialist; listing and buyer’s broker based in the Northwest Suburbs and the entire Chicagoland area. “No Google app is going to bring the emotional stability that somebody needs. No app can ever bring the sentiment, the thoughtfulness, or the compassion that a good agent will bring.”

The client had friends who were realtors. But when it came time to enlist the right person for this very important transaction, she turned to the real estate professional she knew she could trust to get the job done.

“Even going through everything, she says ‘I’m worried ... it’s in raw form ... has the original 1964 Harvest Gold appliances’,” explains Devins. “She asks ‘How are we going to sell it?’”

Devins calmed her with the sage wisdom accumulated over nearly 15 years: “Every house has a buyer.”

Sure enough, the house was marketed appropriately (focusing on the double lot and mechanical upgrades), pre-listed on the Private Listing Network, and had multiple buyers within 48 hours.

“Over 20 neighbors called me about that house,” she explains.

“One of the neighbors wanted their daughter down the block from them, and that’s who bought it. That’s the whole idea and the essence of a home. That’s the beauty of a house.”

It’s also another happy ending for Devins and the client, one that exemplifies her philosophy that personal relationships can never be replaced by algorithms or the internet.

“It gave her closure,” Devins explains. “Every step in a case where there is a death is a hurdle. I need to either remove the hurdle or lift the client up so they can get over that hurdle ... that’s what I do. That’s what I’m here for, and no Google app is ever going to do that.”

With last year’s seller’s market projected to continue through early 2022, Devins is uniquely qualified to help both buyers and sellers navigate the challenges.

“I am hoping there will be more balance in the market,” she says.

“More inventory will create more balance.”

Another obstacle that Devins is constantly trying to help sellers overcome in this red-hot market is finding the right place to go once their property has sold.

“That fear of ‘no place to go’ has lessened quite a bit but again, who could have predicted the craziness of what happened last year?”

Devins adds. “Even the economists ... I don’t think they saw it coming again.”

While the recent housing boom has been beneficial to buyer’s and seller’s agents alike, Devins says it has also cultivated a new generation of “pseudo agents” who think they can read the market based on what they find online.

Her response?

“In a world of electronics and computers, we think everything can be robotic but there’s something to be said for that agent who really leaves no stone unturned,” she explains. “The value that a good agent brings is not just looking up current numbers but looking back at the series of numbers and records that we as agents are only privy to, or a private listing that we as agents are only privy to.”

With more homes being sold on the Private Listing Network before they even hit the MLS, Devins says having the right buyer’s agent is critical to finding your next dream home.

On the other side of the equation, she equally fights for sellers to make sure they don’t fall prey to nefarious tactics being used in today’s market to “hold” a property, only to back out.

“There are buyers out there that will go to six different agents, put offers on six different houses at only $1,000 earnest money and hold those homes and wait until the end,” she says. “They cancel the deal and five out of the six homes were held hostage.”

Devins protects her clients from that game by insisting on a contract from the very beginning—one that protects her clients until the close of sale. “If you’re serious about the house, you’ve got the down payment so show us,” says Devins. “That is the difference I make for my clients. I’m with them to the end and beyond. I hope to always be present in their lives and be of service to them.”

While Devins has garnered professional accolades and grown her portfolio of properties into a global enterprise, the personal connections she’s made along the way are what continue to fuel her success.

“They’re saying that the wave of the future is that someday there won’t be any agents. And yet here we are, 15 years later, and my client calls after her father’s death,” she says, adding: “In 15 years, we’ve seen each other a couple times and she came to me and said ‘Many of my best friends are agents but it was you, Maria. I knew it had to be you.’”

Imagine that your dentist’s work could be evaluated by the top dentists in the world. They would have to submit their work for evaluation and it would have to pass the highest of quality standards. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has a program that performs this exact type of screening.

For 35 years, the AACD has offered this credentialing program.

Accreditation serves to set the standard for excellence in cosmetic dentistry. Achieving accredited status from the AACD requires dedication to continuing education, careful adherence to the protocol, and a resolve to produce exceptional dentistry. Over the past 35 years, thousands of dentists have attempted to complete the process but only 400 have been able to meet the standard. Of these 400, only 200 in the world still practice dentistry today.

The process begins with a written examination. If the candidate passes the written part, they can then start the clinical portion. This involves completing five different reconstructive procedures that are pre-determined by the association. Each case is photographed under high magnification and also requires a written report. Once the documentation is complete, the case is submitted for evaluation.

After the clinical portions are passed, a final oral examination is conducted along with a review of all the clinical photography and reporting. Only after passing all of these steps does the dentist receive his accredited status.

TAKING A LEAP Two Barrington Locals Compete in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association

he Interscholastic Equestrian Association is a non-profit organization that began in 2002.

It introduces both private and public students in middle and secondary schools—ages nine through 19—to equestrian sports. The association supports three disciplines: Hunt Seat, Western, and Dressage, and began with just over 200 participants.

Now the association holds over 14,500 members hosting competitions nationwide. Out of thousands of members, two Barrington locals were lucky enough to compete in the 2021 regional and national competitions.

Briony Robinson, 13, and her sister Amelie, 15, both competed in the Hunt Seat Division with their team “Somerset.”

Briony, an 8th grader at Prairie Middle School Campus, got through individually to the 2021 IEA Hunt Seat Regional Competition, and Amelie, a sophomore at Barrington High School, made it through individually to the national finals. Amelie became this year’s Junior Varsity Novice Equitation on the Flat Champion and also placed 5th in the Junior Varsity over fences.

Here’s the catch: neither of them needed to own a horse or tack. With the IEA, all you need to start a team are three riders in either middle or secondary school, a coach, and a facility to ride. There is no need for any rider to own a horse since competition horses are provided at each venue to the contestant.

At the competition, the riders are divided into middle school and high school teams. The 4th and 5th-grade riders can earn points in middle school teams, which is new this year. There are several divisions within the teams as riders progress depending on points and experience. “Our coaches are just wonderful and they love being part of IEA,” says Sally Robinson, mother of Briony and Amelie.

“They are very supportive and also organize lots of fun social events to help build team spirit.” In addition, the riders gain so much in so many ways. “One day you might not do well, but you can still cheer on your teammates and vice versa,” says Sally. “It’s such a fun atmosphere.” IEA encourages social development and team camaraderie in addition to becoming a champion rider. “Your barn hosts a show so you get to prepare the horses and care for them as well as help other team riders mount and dismount and prepare their tack,” says

Sally. In addition, there are several colleges that attend the national finals that offer riding programs to IEA riders to continue learning and practicing the sport.

Sally thinks it’s a great sport because it teaches children to care for their equine partner, to be a great team member and horse person while learning to adapt to different kinds of horses. She noticed a difference in her daughters since being with IEA and the sport.

“They have a newfound determination to constantly improve and move up the levels for their teams as well as themselves,” she says.

“Riding horses at home can be lonely and hard to stay motivated, but being at the barn with friends is more fun.”
