JVA TO THE RESCUE

G7 MINISTERS PROTECTED FROM BEARS, AND 1500 ELEPHANT FENCES IN GABON

CANADA: 240 JVA SV2 Energizers were the energizers chosen to protect the finance ministers of the G7 countries from brown and black bears, at their annual summit which was held in June in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada.

The G7 is a group of seven countries, (USA, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Japan) whose finance ministers meet annually to discuss global economic and geopolical issues. So, the loss of even one finance minister to a bear hug could have put a ght squeeze on their country's economy!

GABON: 1500 Elephant Fences erected in Gabon! This may sound like a fairy-tale story but thanks to the NGO, Space for Giants, who heard that the Gabon government was contemplang direcng the army to cull the elephant populaon that was decimang local subsistence farmers' crops, they came up with a soluon.

The government of Gabon would provide these farmers with solar powered electric fencing kits to keep the elephants off their crops and 1500 JVA Solar Energizers were also their energizers ofchoice. JVA MD, Shaun Williamson, accompanied by Senior Technician, Philip Erasmus, then traveled to Gabon to provide training for the local conservaon officers and farmers. (Right: Shaun and Phillip with graduang conservaon officers.)

This project is proving to be a resounding success, and the concept may be extended to other countries with similar challenges.

JVA Tank Monitor – soon to be released

The JVA all-in-one Solar Water Monitor can be placed alongside any tank, reservoir, water trough or dam monitoring the water level. The unit is stand-alone just requiring a local GSM/Sim card. The units have a 7 AH baery and 24 wa solar panel, so are able to operate 24/7/365. The units report to the JVA cloud and through an easily set up process, and using the 10m water level reader, will report on the percentage of water. The process of programming and set up is easy. The units have a spare input and output on the PCB to enable the user to switch on a pump if required.

The stable, popular JVA Cloud System makes management and water level logging a breeze. This system can also be supplied as a stand-alone unit for your home Jo-Jo tanks, and connected into your home Wi-Fi system, reporng to your phone through our reliable Cloud Router System, allows you to view your Agric or Security Energizers, Roboguards and water tank level all from one place.

Reel Handle and Poliwire Guide

The JVA Geared and Standard reels have had an upgrade. The nylon bobbins and strong steel frame already have the reputaon of being the strongest reels in the market. Customers’ request for poliwire guides and a more ergonomic handle have been met.

We have made a comfortable hand grip using nylon and then added a strong reinforced ABS guide to maintain the strength and robustness for which our reels are renowned.

10mm Polirope

This Polirope has eight standard Poliwire ropes plaited together into a strong highly visible thick rope with an outer dimension of 10mm. This rope can easily be threaded back on itself (like a ski rope) making strong visible cale gates with no need for joiners or clamping. Just loop around the gate handle or Jumbo Strain and thread the rope back into itself.

® Boundary RiderFence Line Comms Monitor

® The JVA Boundary Rider is a Fence Line Communicaons (FLC) ™ electric fence Monitor. The Boundary Riderwill allow you to ® check the voltage on your fence at each JVA Boundary Rider from anywhere in the world. It will give you peace of mind knowing that your property’s electric fence is working. It can also send you an alert if a fault occurs at that point on your fence. The Boundary ® Rider is part of the JVA range of Monitored Electric Fencing ® Products. This range includes IP Energizersand IP Monitors.

The JVA monitoring system adds more funconality to already popular JVA MB8/12/16 and Jumbo energizers. However, it can also be used with most other branded energizers. How does it work? Each Boundary Rider periodically sends the fence voltage informaon along the fence wires to the Base Staon. The Base Staon transfers this informaon to the JVA Cloud Servers over a Wi-Fi link.

The perfect tool to keep you informed of the performance of your fence. No need to waste me driving the fence line every morning, to check for faults, this can be done through your FREE App from anywhere in the world.

Monitoring Layouts

The simplest method of using Boundary Rider(s) to monitor your fence is to place one at each extremity of your farm. This is known as “End of Fence Monitoring”. By doing so you can check the voltage at the end and be assured that power is flowing all the way from the energizer to this point, i.e. your enre fence is fine. The informaon is transferred along the “live” fence wire to the base staon. The Base Staon transfers this informaon to the JVA Cloud Servers over a Wi-Fi link.

An alternave is to use more monitors to create “Sectors” within your fence system. The easiest way to think about this is to imagine a very long boundary fence. If you place a Boundary Rider at regular intervals, you will create a sector between each Boundary Rider. If Boundary Rider 2 says the fence is ok, but Boundary Rider 3 says it isn’t, then the fault is in sector 3. Note: the Boundary Rider has been designed to operate at maximum distance of up to 6km away from the Base Staon. This limitaon can be ‘overcome’ by installing the Base Staon in the middle/centre of the Boundary Riders.

FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED DEBUNKING THE MYTHS, MISCONCEPTIONS AND MALPRACTICES SURROUNDING ROBOGUARD.

Roboguard is a unique South African product that has been developed, manufactured and marketed in South Africa for over thirty years and is now, with literally hundreds of thousands operang successfully in the market place, a tried and trusted security system.

Some security facts: No one single security system on its own can provide a total soluon to one's security challenges. All have their pros and cons and all, with specialist knowhow, can be either disabled or circumvented. The best domesc security system is a layered system, starng at the perimeter with a good barrier wall or fence reinforced with monitored electric fencing, possibly also with torsion or vibraon monitors, backed by thermal cameras. Perimeter access should be via automac gates with access control linked to the house via intercom or GSM. The next layer is an external beam system. This can also be linked to cameras and security lighng covering the intermediate space between perimeter and homestead. Finally the homestead itself. This should be fied with formidable burglar guards, have adequate security lighng, good solid doors with locks and trellis type security gates, an internal burglar alarm system and cameras all linked via GSM or landline to one's cell phone and reacon company, and a safe room into which residents can retreat. This way one can protect one’s family and monitor one's assets from anywhere in the world. Regreably this can all add up to a dy sum but one can add the layers as one can afford them.

What does Roboguard offer? The Roboguard system is a wireless linked (i.e. no cabling required) stand-alone, weatherproof, tamperproof, outdoor beam system impervious to lightning, that sends out a 110 , double, fanlike set of beams which cover an area of up to 20 to 25 metres. The Roboguard outstaon also transmits a product condion report back every 20 minutes to its portable base staon (HQ). This HQ has internal rechargeable baeries and it can be situated up to 400 metres away from the outdoor Roboguard sentry. (Other systems only check-in every couple of hours.) One HQ can monitor up to eight Roboguard sentries.

For an alarm to trigger, both layers of beams have to be broken almost simultaneously. This means that if a dog walks under the top beam and it breaks only a boom beam, no alarm will trigger. Conversely a bird flying through only a top beam will also not trigger an alarm condion. Both beams need to be brokensimulta neously.FinallytheRoboguard outstaons do not have to face each other i.e. point to point as with most other beam systems. The net result is a highly flexible, easy to operate, stable, outdoor security system.

Myths and Misunderstandings Regarding Roboguards

Firstly, almost all problems associated with Roboguards can be aributed to ignorance or simply poor installaon pracces. Common myths and misconcepons debunked here are:

Myth - Roboguards give false alarms: Originally Roboguards were sold only to qualified installers who, at the retail price quoted, installed the Roboguard system free of charge. (This within a reasonable distance of their home base – otherwise some travelling allowance had to be charged.) Regreably distributers and installers have started discounng and selling Roboguard product direct to the public and while it is possible to 'do-it-yourself' the purchaser has to be reasonably technically minded and praccal to install the product sasfactorily. And here in lies the rub, – most people are not qualified to do a sasfactorily installaon and, regreably, this includes many burglar alarm technicians who regularly move from one firm to another and are oen not in one place long enough to be properly trained. The net result is beams are wrongly sited, angled, or focussed, and the 'walk test' is seldom conducted. All this results in potenal for false alarms and the misconcepon that Roboguards are unstable. (Example - The Roboguard is posioned too low or is faced directly at bushes or a swimming pool where movement of the bushes or reflecon off the water can cause a problem.) So, as far as false alarms are concerned, nothing could be further from the truth. Properly sited, installed and commissioned, Roboguards are one of the most stable alarm systems available.

Myth - Roboguards are easy to jam: A myth persists that Roboguards can be easily jammed using a run-of-the-mill gate remote. Any wireless system can be jammed by a signal from a more powerful transmier operang on the same frequency. A Roboguard can transmit up to 400m whereas a gate remote can only transmit up to about 60m. It doesn't take a rocket scienst to appreciate which is the more powerful transmier. However, in exceponal situaons, there is a possibility of jamming a signal but even this possibility can be easily overcome by simply inserng a Snitch. A Snitch is a device that warns you if someone is trying to block the signal. Incidentally this device is also ideal for warning motorists when someone is blocking the locking up of their vehicle.

Myth - Birds will trigger the Roboguard. The misconcepon that large birds will trigger a false alarm is catered for by seng the Roboguard to Hadedah mode. So, if you are plagued in the morning by these mobile alarm clocks, adjust the seng on the Roboguard to Hadedah mode - something that cannot be done to any convenonal point to point beams.

Price: Price is always a consideraon. Regreably quality does come at a price, but if one considers that no expensive and disrupve digging of trenches is necessary and no messy wiring is involved, suddenly the margins are insignificant. Also, being wireless, a Roboguard can easily be re-sited if its original posioning is unsasfactory.

Repairs: And finally, if one uses a qualified installer, the units can be installed professionally giving trouble free operaon with back-up service. And yes, Roboguards can be repaired and serviced in-house, something very few other beam systems can offer.

Ø Smart lighng: moon acvated lighng or lighng that can be controlled remotely to give the illusion that someone is home

Ø Mobile monitoring and alerts: noficaons or texts when alarm is triggered

Customizaon:

Tailor the system – a good security provider should be able to offer customized soluons

· If the client has pets – pet-friendly moon detectors that won't be triggered by their pets

· If the client lives in an area prone to environmental risks – recommend smoke and carbon monoxide detectors or flood sensors if they live in a flood-prone area

· If they travel frequently - offer a system that integrates with mobile Apps for remote monitoring control

Maintenance and service:

Offering ongoing service plans: this will be more applicable with installers

Consider future needs:

Scalability – ensure that the system that you are selling is scalable; clients may want to expand their security system later, so choose products that can be easily added to in the future

By understanding the clients’ needs, their property type, budget and future consideraons, you can recommend security systems that are well suited to their specific situaons. The key is to provide a tailored, thoughul soluon that covers all aspects of their security concerns.

Knowledge is Power

They say, ‘Knowledge is Power’ and when dealing with JVA power, it’s very important to have as much knowledge as possible so as not to burn one’s fingers. The same can be said for Dahua CCTV Systems, Roboguard and Askari beam systems, Automac Gate Motors – in fact all the product ranges that Stafix Electric Fence and Security Centers market and sell.

It was with this in mind that Stafix Electric Fence & Security Centers, decided to establish a fully registered integrated training instuon, Ndlovu College, to provide installers with the best theorecal and praccal training possible. This fully equipped training college is situated in Harmelia, a suburb very close to Jet Park and Oliver Tambo Internaonal Airport. The facility boasts a wellequipped lecture room, a prac-room containing fences for COC training and candidate evaluaon, a room fully equipped for camera and CCTV training, and demo-areas specializing in gate automaon, Roboguard systems, and agricultural and wildlife fencing.

This Stafix training facility also has a fully funconal Security Control Guard Room providing trainees with the opportunity to gain experience in fully integrang the diverse ranges of security products and security and animal control electric fence monitoring systems, marketed by Stafix Electric Fence and Security Centers.

The training college also has a comfortable entertainment and refreshment area and is located right next door to two moderately priced hotels.

Besides this JHB training centre, we have training centres in 14 of our Stafix Branches naonwide, making it easier and more accessible for those who wish to train and build their skills and knowledge through our available courses.
