A note from the Potentate:
Illustrious sirs and Nobles,
El Maida has been busy in the last 6 months. We hosted events such as a Bowie and Jefferson alum association party, a gun show, and a wedding, among others. There are also several other events upcoming, including an 80s concert, gun shows, a mineral and gem show, and some parties.
I have traveled to the Texas Shrine Association (TSA) Mid-Winter business meeting in San Antonio, attended the Odessa Shrine Club, and participated in a ceremonial initiation for Anezeh Shriners in Chihuahua, Mexico. I have represented El Maida at the El Minya chapter of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, Rosetta Temple No. 61 of the Daughters of the Nile installation, and Wallace Hughston #1100’s Order of the Eastern Star installation. The Divan will be traveling to Tyler for the TSA summer business meeting and ceremony this weekend and then to Atlanta, GA, for the Imperial Shrine’s annual session.
We have also made some repairs to the building. One of the large air conditioning units needed both compressors replaced, as well as the 4 exhaust fans The roof has been patched several times (the lower roof actually needs to be replaced. If you know of any donors, please let us know). We recently had to repair the drain in the large kitchen that the ice machine drains into.
The Divan continues to work. We are pursuing the Feztival of Trees fundraiser. We have sold about 5 trees so far. If you would like more information or know of a possible sponsor, please call the office and we will provide you with the necessary details. We have been able to reduce our water bill and are now looking for other ways to lower our energy costs We are also exploring the idea of creating a library and museum at the Shrine.
Overall, your El Maida Shrine is doing well. We are continuing to provide transportation services to our patients and their families The building continues to be rented for events. Your Divan continues to serve El Maida and represent you. If you have any ideas that would help your Shrine, let us know.
Yours in Faith, Mark
Chili Cook Off
In April 2025 El Maida Shriners Hosted the 2025 Paso Del Norte Gun Collectors Club Gun Show. During the show, El Maida hosted a Shriners Chili Cook off. The organizers of the Cook off donated all proceeds to El Maida Shriners. It was delicious and we want to thank Kathy and Beverly from Chili cook off as well as PDN Gun Show for helping us with this event.

Odessa Club
Currently the Odessa El Maida Shrine Club is working on public relations and making our presence known again to the general public. One our Shrine Club alum has been helping us with this. This year we were excited to kick off our first pancake breakfast, it was a success and will become an annual event. Also working on our annual golf tournament. We were recently contacted by a mother wishing to meet with us. She is the mother of three Shrine children. Always a good thing when people want to meet with us, one of our goals. We are actively attempting to educate the community at large as to what we as Shriners do for our young beneficiaries. Hopefully our outreach will garner the attention of our intended group(families).
