TWRA LICENSE INCREASE For the first time in a decade, Tennessee resident and non-resident hunting and fishing license fees are increasing. The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the new structure at its January meeting, after more than three years of budget analysis and adjustments. Over the last decade, the cost of everything from fuel to fertilizer has increased dramatically, while income from license sales and federal reimbursements have not. The agency has now released an online method to pay for and renew all your licensees. They have also released a free smart phone app in which you can renew licenses or use to find local boat ramps and more information.

The Train Ride
I guess Valley Chapel Methodist Church holds more memories for me than any other place in Emory Gap. In the 50s, a youth group was almost unheard of in a church, but Wilma Walker, along with many others, were responsible for the adventures of the younguns in church. We went to a lot of places I had never been to, and a train ride to Oakdale was one of them. I was terrified to go. In fact, I wasn’t going to go because I thought the engineer had to steer the train just like someone driving a car. I could imagine him missing a turn and me and the train falling 300 yards down into a ravine. I was only about 6 years old, and didn’t know that much about transportation methods. When I told my sisters and brothers my fear, they had a huge laugh, but then explained to me that it is connected to the rails...no one actually “drives” the train. So my fears were over. We all met at the Rockwood Depot at the end of the street past the high school. That I remember, there were about 15 of us that went, and I wasn’t afraid, not one bit. I recall how fast the telephone poles sped by, and I was a little disappointed that we were going too fast to really get a view of the scenery, but I loved it. It didn’t seem to take any time at all and we were in Oakdale. Valley Chapel was a simple church, but it had extraordinary people who went there. The adults cared about the young people. There were great Sunday School teachers, and each one of them was a great example for all us kids growing up.

WASHINGTON — Aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain near the top of the annual "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams for the 2015 filing season, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.

The IRS has seen a surge of these phone scams in recent months as scam artists threaten police arrest, deportation, license revocation and other things. The IRS reminds taxpayers to guard against all sorts of con games that arise during any filing season.

"If someone calls unexpectedly claiming to be from the IRS with aggressive threats if you don't pay immediately, it's a scam artist calling,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. "The first IRS contact with taxpayers is usually through the mail. Taxpayers have rights, and this is not how we do business." The Dirty Dozen is compiled annually by the IRS and lists a variety of common scams taxpayers may encounter any time during the year. Many of these con games peak during filing season as people prepare their tax returns or hire someone to do so. This year for the first time, the IRS issued the individual Dirty Dozen scams to raise consumer awareness. Phone scams top the list this year because it has been a persistent and pervasive problem for many taxpayers for many months. Scammers are able to alter caller ID numbers to make it look like the IRS is calling. They use fake names and bogus IRS badge numbers. They often leave "urgent" callback requests. They prey on the most vulnerable people, such as the elderly, newly arrived immigrants and those whose first language is not English. Scammers have been known to impersonate agents from IRS Criminal Investigation as well. “These criminals try to scare and shock you into providing personal financial information on the spot while you are off guard,” Koskinen said. “Don’t be taken in and don’t engage these people over the phone.” The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) has received reports of roughly 290,000 contacts since October 2013 and has become aware of nearly 3,000 victims who have collectively paid over $14 million as a result of the scam, in which individuals make unsolicited calls to taxpayers fraudulently claiming to be IRS officials and demanding that they send them cash via prepaid debit cards. Protect Yourself As telephone scams continue across the country, the IRS recently put out a new YouTube video with a renewed warning to taxpayers not to be fooled by imposter's posing as tax agency representatives. The new Tax Scams video describes some basic tips to help protect taxpayers from tax scams. These callers may demand money or say you have a refund due and try to trick you into sharing private information. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They may know a lot about you. The IRS reminds people that they can know pretty easily when a supposed IRS caller is a fake. Here are five things the scammers often do but the IRS will not do. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam.

The IRS will never: • Call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill. • Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe. • Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card. • Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone. • Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying. If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and asking for money, here’s what you should do: • If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. The IRS workers can help you with a payment issue. • If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to believe that you do, report the incident to the TIGTA at 1-800-366-4484 or at www.tigta.gov. • If you’ve been targeted, also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at www.FTC.gov. Please add “IRS Telephone Scam” to the comments of your complaint. Remember, too, the IRS does not use email, text messages or any social media to discuss your personal tax issue involving bills or refunds. A Night of Magic at the Princess Theatre Local magicians bring “A Night of Magic” to the Princess Theatre, Harriman, Tennessee on Friday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. The focus on family entertainment will delight children and adults alike. This limited public appearance by professional magicians will hold your attention, captivate your mind and leave you wondering “how did they do that?” Bev Coffey toured for fifteen years as “The Great Beverano” performing magic at trade shows and on stage. His illusions have entertained children of all ages including performances at children’s hospitals and charity functions. He has supported and assisted several individuals in developing their skills. Coffey came out of retirement recently to focus on performing for charitable events. Ed Ripley has been performing magic for over 43 years. On his 10th birthday, his grandmother took him to a magic shop and he was fascinated. Two of the tricks he bought that day are still part of his act. Ripley has performed on four continents and all over the USA. He is a professional engineer and research scientist in Oak Ridge, but he has always kept his love for magic. He has 22 issued US patents and creates magic and illusions for some of magic’s top performers all over the world. Ripley has won numerous contests. He placed first at The Southeastern Association of Magicians and in the Winter Carnival of Magic. Ripley was awarded a PhD in magical art and performance for his uniquely entertaining cups and balls act. He is a certified dive master and a volunteer show diver at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. Ripley is the first person to ever perform a magic show in an underwater research laboratory. “Mr. Roger” specializes in children and family entertainment. Roger Reeves is a retired firefighter, originally performing as a Shriner clown. Reeves was honored to have been invited to perform at the Kyle Petty and NASCAR Victory Junction Camp for a week of children’s magic for their cancer patients. With over thirty years of experience, Reeves has won numerous awards in makeup competitions both locally and internationally. He is a member of the Society of American Magicians, International Brotherhood of Magicians and Tennessee Magical Society. Reeves also appears on the main state as “Doodles the Clown” at the world renowned Wilson County Fair. Making a special appearance will be “Cousin Minnie Pearl.” Gina Huebner is a talented entertainer with a genuine imitation of the great American Country comedian who was known for her hopelessly styleless knee-length country dresses, her straw hat decorated with colorful plastic flowers and $1.98 price tag. Gina began performing with a small church group for a senior outing and continues to delight audiences with Minnie Pearl’s cheerful shout of “How-dee! I’m just so proud to be here!” The Boys and Girls Club of Clinch Valley staff and board members will be manning the concession stand selling cookies, soft drinks and delights as a fundraising project, providing funds to ensure their mission of enabling young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring responsible citizens. The Wingless Fairy
Adalina was no ordinary fairy. No one knew why, but she had no wings. And, what’s more, she was a Princess, daughter of the Great Fairy Queen. As she was so tiny, like a flower, life was just a series of problems for her. Not only couldn’t she fly, but she hardly had any magical powers, since fairy magic comes from their delicate crystal wings. So, from an early age, Adalina had depended on the help of others for many things. She grew up thanking people, smiling and being friendly, so naturally all the creatures in the forest were delighted to help her. But when she reached the age to become Queen, many fairies doubted she could be a good Queen with such a disability. They argued and protested so much that Adalina had to agree to take a test in which she would have to demonstrate to everyone the wonders she could work. The little fairy became extremely sad. What could she do? She was hardly magic at all, and couldn't even travel far with those little legs of hers. The First Attempted Assassination Andrew Jackson was almost the first assassinated president—but luck was on his side. What happened? The first president to ever have his life threatened by an assassination (that we know of) was Andrew Jackson in 1835. The story of how it happened reads like one of the strangest historical Mad Libs ever made. It includes a crazy unemployed guy, defective pistols, and the infamous Davy Crockett! While attending a funeral, Richard Lawrence, an unemployed house painter, approached Jackson in the House chamber of the Capitol. He took a gun out and shot at him, but luckily, it misfired. Lawrence believed he was owed money which would allow him to take his rightful place as King Richard III of England, and Jackson was keeping it from him. Sure, sounds reasonable. The 67-year-old president quickly raised his cane and struck Lawrence again and again. Lawrence presented a second pistol—which also misfired. The crowds got in on the fun, fighting Lawrence and taking his guns. And who else was in that crowd but bystander Rep. Davy Crockett of Tennessee! Lawrence was found not guilty because of insanity and spent the rest of his days in mental institutions. Jackson believed the rival Whig Party hired the assassin, which led to Vice President Martin Van Buren carrying two pistols any time he visited the Senate. The Smithsonian Institution tested Lawrence’s pistols in 1930. Believe it or not, both fired normally on the first try!
“Top Gun” was good for Recruitment The Movie “Top Gun” Caused A Direct Influx Of Navy Recruitment in the United States Did you know that the Pentagon was in collaboration with Jerry Bruckheimer for the movie “Top Gun”? Why you ask? Simple. The United States needed more manpower. The army worked with the movie to bring advertisements directed at viewers to join the Army and Navy. During the release, recruitment booths were set up outside of theaters to attract viewers to sign up before or after the movie. After booths were set up, the polls saw an incredible increase in recruits. These advertisements often showed imagery of fantasy like battles in war that would attract these viewers to sign up. Multiplying like rabbits Twenty-four rabbits set lose in Australia grew to a population of 10 billion in about 67 years. In 1859, a man named Thomas Austin in Barwon Park, Australia released 24 rabbits. These European wild rabbits spread rapidly, about 130 km per year. By 1926, there were over 10 billion rabbits in the island. Since the peak in population, disease has reduced the rabbit population down from billions to hundreds of millions. Rabbits reproduce at a ridiculously fast rate. Rabbits are mature enough to reproduce after only three or four months of life. After that, they have a very short gestation period of only 28-30 days. A female rabbit creates a burrow to breed in. A female rabbit can birth 5-6 litters a year, with about 5 baby rabbits in each litter. That means a single female rabbit could give birth to as many as 30 new rabbits in a year. These rabbits are very hazardous to the ecosystem of Australia. Rabbits feed on certain plants in particular, so those plants got eaten up by the high population of non-native rabbits. The absence of those plants affected other native animals in the area. This changed the ecological landscape of Australia. Rabbits also hurt the economy by overgrazing in farm areas.
Food on board There is an ancient shipwreck that is so well preserved it still has food on board! It’s amazing how quickly the leftovers in the back of your fridge turn into a rotting, smelly pile of something that used to be edible. Generally, it’s hard to even tell what it used to be! If this struggle is all too real to you, it will blow your mind to know that an ancient Roman merchant vessel was found off the coast of Italy with food that is still intact! In 2012, divers discovered the ship that was still in really good condition, enough so that a lot of the food on board is probably still sealed in their storage jars. The first people to become aware of the wreck under the waves was local fishermen who started to notice pottery in their nets. Police divers quickly brought out a remotely operated vehicle to check out the 2,000-year-old ship. Preliminary tests show that some of the food on board is pickled fish, grain, wine, and oil which were likely headed for Spain when the ship sunk. It remained in such good condition in thanks to the layers of mud on the seabed that protected it from harm. Though there are no plans to raise the ship, the area has been secured, prohibiting shipping and water traffic.

Get Rid Of A Headache In Just 60 Seconds Headache is the most common, unpleasant occurrence that can make us nervous very quickly. The causes of a headache and its intensity are different, and before you try anything else, try these three effective tricks that will take you only a minute. Pencil – When we are anxious and stressed, often subconsciously we grit our teeth, thus tiring the muscle that connects the jaw to the temple, which results in a headache. To prevent this, simply bite a wooden pencil. It will interfere with the work of the jaws and relaxes them, and thus prevent pain. Mint – If you are having problems with sinusitis and allergies, massage your forehead with essential oil of mint. In hand put a little olive or baby oil and a few drops of essential oil. With your fingers mix and apply it on the forehead, and gently massage the area beside the nose and temples with circular strokes. It should last a minute, but if you want you can take some time. Acupressure – Acupressure is an ancient technique using specific points on the body that can reduce or solve a lot of pain. Find your place at the top of the palm where the thumb and index are linked. Hit the post with a slow circular stroke and massage the area for a period of one minute or longer.

The famous baloney sandwich actually contains so many harmful ingredients that even one slice of it is bad for our health. Nutritionists say this is one of the foods we should completely avoid. Baloney can be made from several different types of meat: chicken, turkey, beef, pork, venison or soy protein. That’s great, right? Wrong! Food manufacturers use the “worst” parts of animals in order to cut costs; not to mention the fact that the animals are often mistreated and fed hormones and other chemical concoctions in order to provide the manufacturers with the largest amount of usable parts. You end up eating bones, tails and nails mixed with chemicals to provide the proper color and taste. Mmmmm, yummy. Another problem is the amount of sodium, with one slice of baloney containing 300 mg of it. The recommended daily intake of sodium should not exceed 2300 mg and with older people that number drops to 1500 mg. And take a second to think about the proverb ‘You are what you eat’. Do you really feel like a set of chicken nails, eyes, feathers and who knows what else?

Combine eggs, sugar, oil and vinegar in bowl. Mix well. Sift flour and soda together. Add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition. Throughout the world, it seems, crisis is gripping national politics. In election after election, voter turnout has hit historic lows. Politicians are universally despised. Mainstream parties, desperate to remain important, are caught in a vice, forced to choose between pandering to extremism and the risk of being defeated by populist, anti-establishment movements. Not since the end of World War II has money played such an important stance in politics, trumping the power of ideas. In the United States, for example, the sound of billions of dollars flowing into election-campaign funds is drowning out the voices of individual voters. In parts of the world where the rule of law is weak, criminal networks and corruption displace democratic processes. In short, the pursuit of the collective good looks sadly outdated. The trouble began at the end of the Cold War, when the collapse of a bankrupt communist dogma was cheerfully interpreted as the triumph of the market. As communism was abandoned, so was the concept of the state as an agent around which our collective interests and ambitions could be organized. The individual became the ultimate agent of change – an individual conceived as the type of rational actor that populates economists’ models. Such an individual’s identity is not derived from class interests or other sociological characteristics, but from the logic of the market, which dictates maximization of self-interest, whether as a producer, a consumer, or a voter. Irrefutably, economics has been placed on a pedestal and enshrined in institutions like central banks and competition authorities, which have been intentionally separated and made independent from politics. As a result, governments have been confined to interfering at the margins of markets’ allocation of resources. The 2008 global financial crisis, the resulting recession, and rapidly widening income and wealth inequality have punctured the glib triumphalism of economics. But politics, far from rising to take its place, continues to be discredited, as mainstream leaders – particularly in North America and Europe – call on economic theories to justify their policy choices. The pursuit of individual attainment is the symbol of our time, overtaking the collective dimension of human destiny. And yet the deep human need to be part of a group has yet to disappear. It lingers, but without a credible outlet. National projects ring hollow, and the so-called international community remains an abstraction. This unfulfilled desire for community may be felt particularly acutely by young people – including, for example, young jihadists. Nationalist politicians and religious leaders have been the first to spot the vacuum, and they are rapidly filling it. Pope Francis, Vladimir Putin, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and Marine Le Pen have little in common. But they share one insight: There is a deep longing for the creation of communities defined by shared values, not functional needs. The crisis of national politics has consequences that echo far beyond the borders of individual countries. National chauvinism and religious fundamentalism are here to stay, and with them the terrorism that extremists of all stripes embrace, because both phenomena are ideally suited to the age of the individual: They provide imaginary answers to personal angst, instead of political answers to collective challenges. These movements’ amorphous nature – often channeled through charismatic leaders – allows each individual to project onto them his or her dreams, making them difficult to counter within the framework of traditional politics. But this strength can also be a weakness. When tasked with managing territories and governing populations, these movements begin to face the same bothersome logistical and organizational constraints as their rivals. As a result, bureaucracy is constantly at their heels, leaving them in perpetual need of upheaval and renewal. If politics is to retake the field of values from the fanatics, the frauds, and the economists, it must be rebuilt from the ground up. More than half of the world’s population now lives in cities, and any political renaissance must counterbalance the appeal of vast virtual communities with resilient urban societies. Citizens must become reengaged with the political process, educated in public affairs, and provided with real (not merely virtual) platforms to air their differences and debate alternative views. Furthermore, institutions that provide bridges between states and the global community, such as the European Union, must be strengthened and refocused. In particular, their technical functions must be clearly distinguished from their political roles. But, above all, politicians must stop trying to shore up their diminished credibility with the pretense of economic science. Politics begins where contemporary economics ends – with ethics and the attempt to create a justly ordered society. Murphy said, 'My God, I've never seen anything like that'. Just then a farmer walks into the clearing and said, 'What's going on here boys?' O'Brien says, 'We just figured out the depth of this well to be about 270 feet deep and then the strangest thing happened. A goat ran between the two of us and jumped head first down into the well.' The farmer says, 'Thank heaven it wasn't one of my goats.' Murphy says, 'How do you know it wasn't?' And the farmer says, 'Because all of my goats are tethered to big heavy logs.'

Unusual College Prank In 2006, students at Austin High School in Austin, Minnesota engineered a prank that capitalized on the unusual architecture of their school. A busy street separates two buildings on the school’s campus. Students can use the crosswalk or an underground tunnel to get from one building to the other. At an appointed time on the day of the prank, 94 students began filing across the street, using the crosswalk. Then they circled back through the underground tunnel and crossed the street again—and again, and again—creating an endless stream of pedestrians. Traffic was tied up for nearly 10 minutes as cars lined up waiting for the students (including one dressed as a cow and another as a chicken) to finish crossing.

Who was the first President to be a US Born Citizen?
Now a days, it’s an absolute rule that one must be a US born citizen in order to be considered for the presidential Ballot. But that wasn’t always the case. Martin Van Buren, the eighth president of the United States, was the very first president to be a US-born citizen. The previous seven presidents were all British Subjects before the American Revolution occurred. He is also the first president to come from New York state. Surprisingly, his first language was Dutch and English was his second language later in his life. Martin Van Buren was of the Democratic party, and he was the tenth secretary of state under Andrew Jackson and the 9th governor of New York state. He also was the United States Minister to the United Kingdom from 1831-1832. After his second run as president, he tried running under the Free Soil Party, but did not succeed. Fist bumps, head nods and secret hand maneuvers crowd the way many people greet each other these days, but nothing beats the good, old fashioned handshake. The first time a handshake was documented appears on the Kalhu monument, which shows the Assyrian king, Shalmaneser III, and Babylonian Marduk-zakir-sumi, shaking hands in public to show friendship between the nations. It’s believed to be practiced all the way back to the 5th century BC in ancient Greece. Archeologists have found pottery with soldiers shaking hands in many of the ruins. The thought behind the handshake was as a gesture of peace and trust. A soldier would present a hand that doesn’t have a weapon. Today, handshakes mean many things other than an almost universal greeting. They now convey anything from congratulations, to respect, to a binding agreement. By now, George Bush is probably an expert on having stuff thrown at him. On May 10th 2005, Vladimir Arutyunian stood for hours in Freedom Square in the centre of Tbilisi waiting for USA President George Bush and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to speak. When Bush began speaking, he threw a Soviet-made RGD-5 hand grenade, wrapped in a plain red handkerchief at him. It landed 18.6 meters from the podium, near Saakashvili, his wife, Laura Bush, and other officials. However, it failed to detonate because as Arutyunian pulled the pin, it hit a girl, cushioning its impact and the red handkerchief prevented the striker lever from releasing. A security guard quickly removed it, and the two presidents learned of the incident at the next rally. Arutyunian was arrested later arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

God made Adam in His own Likeness, and Enoch walked with God. God took him to live with Him forever, and Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Abraham was called the friend of God, Isaac was the son of promise. Jacob wrestled God and was redeemed, and Joseph saved a nation. Moses led the children of Israel, Joshua brought down the walls. Samuel lived in the house of the Lord, and Saul served God for naught. David was the apple of God's own eye, Solomon the wisest of all. Ezra was a ready and willing scribe, and Nehemiah rebuilt the walls. Esther saved her people from death, Job was tried for his faith. Isaiah prophesied grace to the Gentiles, Jeremiah wept in the way. Ezekiel raised up the dry bones, Daniel purposed to serve. Hosea preached the Jew restored, Joel preached the day of the Lord. Amos prophesies the judgment to come, Jonah runs from the Lord. Micah teaches intercession, Nahum, a holy God. Then, there's Habakkuk and Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. All of these walked by faith, teaching us God's saving grace. We've much to learn from the prophets of old as we see their prophecy today unfold.

Was he a Robin Hood? A bank robber became popular because he destroyed people’s mortgages from the banks he robbed! Pretty Boy Floyd was an infamous Depression-era, American bank robber. Born Charles Arthur Floyd in Georgia, he was one of seven children. His parents were farmers, and the family was extremely poor. At first, Floyd attempted to be a farmer as well, but once he failed at this, he turned to a life of crime. He was arrested at age 18 for a payroll robbery and vowed to never steal again. The allure was too much for him though, and he went on to continue robbing banks. He began in Ohio with a group of gangsters and was known for being reckless with his machine gun. From there, he moved on to robbing banks in Oklahoma, Kentucky and and Michigan. During his robbing spree in Oklahoma, it is said that bank insurance rates doubled. Perhaps because of his poor upbringing, Floyd became known for destroying mortgage papers at some of the banks he robbed and ridding many people of debt. Some dubbed him the “Robin Hood of the Cooksoon Hills.” This somewhat endeared himself to the public. It did not save him from the FBI though. In 1934 after robbing a bank, Floyd was shot and killed by FBI agents during a chase.

According to police, you shouldn’t wait 24 hours before filing a missing persons report! Here’s why. Many people believe that, when faced with a potential kidnapping or run away, they have to wait 24 hours before reporting to the police. However, it seems that isn’t the case. According to most law enforcement agencies, if there is evidence of an unusual absence or, even worse, violence, those concerned should contact authorities immediately. In these cases, starting an investigation immediately may help save someone’s life. In 2012, over 660,000 missing persons were entered into FBI records. However, all but about 20,000 were eventually removed, meaning the case was either canceled or the missing person was found. In 1996, the America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response system, or AMBER Alert, was adopted to help find and rescue. abducted children. Named after Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old who was abducted and murdered, the system has helped recover 685 children. After seven years, a missing person may be declared legally dead. Mistakenly in a mental hospital Imagine spending 15 years in a mental hospital, against your will, as a normal, sane person. The mere thought of being sent to a mental hospital is the stuff of nightmares for most of us. But for Kenneth Donaldson, this nightmare became all too real as he was institutionalized at age 34, against his will. When visiting his elderly parents in Florida in 1956, Donaldson believed that one of his neighbors was poisoning his food. His father, concerned that his son was paranoid, petitioned for a sanity hearing. Donaldson didn’t have the necessary legal counsel to represent his case and he was committed into the Florida State mental health system with “paranoid schizophrenia.” He was placed in a ward with only one doctor and shared his space with dangerous criminals. After spending 15 years as a patient without ever receiving any treatment, Donaldson finally won a lawsuit against the hospital and staff members for robbing him of his constitutional rights. He was compensated financially and his case was even reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in 1975. Later on, Donaldson wrote a book about his experiences as a mental patient, which must have read something like a horror novel.

Larson had eight top-five finishes as a rookie, including three runner-up finishes. When you run consistently in the top five, you'll eventually win. And how about this: In the first five races of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Larson's average finish was 3.8. 2. Austin Dillon Last year, when Dillon was a rookie, his Richard Childress Chevrolet's didn't have race-winning speed in them, as the entire team was shut out of Victory Lane. Presumably, that will be rectified this year. Dillon took the pole for the 2014 Daytona 500 and scored a top-five finish in the July Daytona race. 3. Ryan Blaney Winning with a part-time team is always hard, but Blaney has a chance to do some good things in the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford. Blaney has great talent, an excellent crew chief in Jeremy Bullins and, thanks to a technical alliance with Team Penske, the Wood Brothers ought to have fast Fords. 4. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Yeah, Stenhouse and all of Roush Fenway Racing had a dismal 2014 season. But he finished second and sixth in the two Bristol races. If the team can find some speed in its cars, Stenhouse could win. And he'll be motivated, as this is pretty much a make-or-break season.

Instead of throwing pitches, he was thrown out of the game and was served a 10 game suspension. 13. Ben Johnson The Canadian sprinter was disqualified from the 1988 Olympics for steroids. 12. Danny Almonte 2001 Little League pitching sensation Danny Almonte was exposed as being actually two years older than his Dominican Republic birth certificate stated. 11. East German Women’s Swim Team The Cold War was played out on many battlefields, one of which being the Olympics. After the unification of East and West Germany, declassified documents showed that the country had been developing thousands of steroid-enhanced super-athletes over the previous 20 years. This was exemplified by their Women’s Swim Team, that had won 32 gold medals between the 1976, 1980 and 1988 Olympics, a level of dominance (and type of lady-swimmer) never before seen in the sport. 10. Lance Armstrong The greatest cyclist of all time was exposed as a roid-using fraud who bullied and lied his way to the top. A Tour de Fraud. At least he’s raised millions to fight cancer. 9. Tim Donaghy Little Timmy got himself in big trouble as an NBA ref who bet on games and passed info along to bookies. His actions cast further doubt on a league whose refs are always in the spotlight for their questionable calls. 3. The New England Patriots Their Belichick-Brady era of success has brought with it several championships but also more than a few accusations of questionable tactics. A lot of interest has been stirred on facebook recently regarding a flagpole in the middle of Rockwood Avenue and Chamberlain St. Some say one existed at Rockwood Avenue and Wilder Street between the Post Office and REU. I honestly can't remember either of them. Here are some people who I talked to in the past who do did remember them though. The late Wiley Ray Martin, recalled the one at Chamberlain and Rockwood Avenue. He took the responsibility of taking care of the flag that was flown. He worked at the Lyric Theater for a Mr. Howard and that is where the flag was kept. Ms. Patsy Pierce remembered that one also and has a Rockwood Times newspaper from the early 40's with a picture of it and an article about the flagpole being dedicated to our servicemen. It must have been removed soon afterward. Owen Gibson also remembers a flagpole as does David Poole. David remembers the flagpole in the middle of the street at the post office, and cars cruising Rockwood Street would turn around there. Folks on Saturday would drive up and down the street looking for a parking place. The remains of the flagpole base were there in 1953 or 1954. David left Rockwood for active duty after that. Others who remember the flagpole were Maurice Grief, Barbara Hicks Mayfield Loyless, among many others, I guess I am the only one with a memory lapse. Sue Hill remembers it also, she recalls it as being in the center of town at the intersection of Chamberlain and Rockwood St. It was situated on a square concrete base about four feet high that was badly chipped from cars making U-Turns around it. She said it was still there in 1949 and the early 1950's but has no idea when it was constructed. She figured around World War II. And lifelong Rockwood resident, and a 1957 classmate, David Hembree said this in an email. "I do seem to recall the flag being in the center of the street where the post office and REU buildings are now. I believe it was set in a small, square foundation of field stone or river rock. I am not real sure about this. It was at least fifty years ago. At that time, everyone drove up the street and made a U-Turn there to go back down Rockwood Street. What I sure about is that the flagpole was eventually taken down and a metal lifesize policeman figure was put there. I do remember this, because one night, Ronnie Rhea, and myself were being taken to basketball practice by Ronnie's father, Wilburn Rhea. Mr. Rhea did not notice the figure and almost hit it. He said ,"My gosh, I almost ran over that policeman standing there," And while rambling through some early editions of the Rockwood Times at our local library that might interest some of you. While I know that none of you will remember these times, it can be enlightening to know how our parents and grandparents coped with some of the issues in developing Rockwood. Here is some information I found about the "Anti-Jug Law..... This is from the early 1900's. It seems that Rockwood was the first town in the state to put in operation ordinances prohibiting the importation of liquor. It was not the first to pass such an ordinance, Harriman already had one, but it was not enforced until Rockwood ordinances went into operation. The board which passed these ordinances and put them in operation was: Hon. T. Asbury Wright, Mayor, Aldermen J.L.Millican, J.E.Fox, W.D.Kelley, T.L.Peterman, and D.M.Coffman. The Anti-Jug Law was passed as a result of the Anti-Saloon victory in 1903. A great campaign to drive out saloons began in 1902. Anti-saloon leagues were organized in Rockwood and Kingston. Neither town fully trusted the other. Each thought if it voted to go dry, the other would go wet and get all of the liquor money. So it was decided to set the elections on the same day so that neither could tell the other how it was going. In Rockwood, the ladies quickly went to work for the temperance movement. The town was divided into sections, committees were formed under the leadership of Mrs. Willard Warner, general chairman and a house to house canvass was made. On election day, white ribbons were pinned on the temperance voters and a free lunch was served at the polling place. The ladies brought the men to the polls in squads. Each squad was marched in headed by a lady as the leader. Even the local drinkers were collared and marched off to vote. The saloon men gave up the fight. Needless to say, the ladies carried the day. After closing all of the saloons, those who wanted their liquor had to have it shipped in, so the Anti-Jug ordinance followed. Many packages of liquor were sent in only to be returned to the sender. Finally, the Southern Express Company refused to transport liquor to Rockwood in violation of ordinances of the town and the dear old jug with its exhilarating contents, ceased to arrive. Just a last thought, with some of the buildings in downtown Rockwood set to be demolished and remodeled let's remember the old Rockwood Calaboose, not CABOOSE. It is the metal building in the alley behind the previously Booth Funeral Home and Bilbrey Furniture Store buildings. I remember that building very well, from the outside, not the inside. I think it is one of only two in the state of Tennessee remaining. It would be a shame to lose this antique.. Maybe a drive can be started to restore it. Restaurant Hacks you need to know‌ Do Not Order the Specials Do not order the specials unless the restaurant has a good reputation as being a quality establishment. Most specials are just leftovers thrown together into a dish to use them before they spoil. Bring Gifts If You Do Not Have Reservations Bring along some gifts for the host if you did not make reservations. Things like expensive candy bars or other small tokens could get you into the restaurant. Avoid the Second Least Expensive Wines Many restaurants put a low-quality wine as the second least expensive one on the list. You should never order the second least expensive wine. Order the most inexpensive wine when on a budget unless you know exactly what you are doing. Ask For the Check When You Order If you do not have much time to sit in a restaurant or bar, then ask for the check as soon as you are done ordering. The server will be able to calculate your total right away. Avoid Ordering Pasta When It Is Not the Specialty If you are dining on a budget, then avoid ordering inexpensive pasta dishes. It is almost always a better value to order a chicken or pork entree that has substantial ingredients. Order Wine by the Bottle Always order wine by the bottle and not by the glass. Ordering by the glass is usually much more expensive. Request Two Drinks At Once If you are planning to have more than one drink, then order two at once. Earth Launched it Into Space 57 Years Ago… and It’s Still In Orbit! An artificial satellite by the name of Vanguard 1 launched into orbit on March 17th, 1958. Originally, it’s crafter promised that it would be stable in space for centuries, and so far it’s going well! Above Earth’s atmosphere, you can find Vanguard 1 either 400 miles above or 2,400 miles above us orbiting. According to NBC news, it orbits once every 133 minutes. It has only dropped 60 miles down in the half century it has been orbiting. Pretty reliable, huh? Because of its ability to orbit for so long and remain steady, you may be wondering what it’s made out of. It’s an aluminum sphere that is about 6.5 inches in diameter and a lightweight 3.2 pounds. It’s last mission ended in 1964. Less than a year later, another specimen of its kind was released into space called the Vanguard 2. In April of 2012, it was still in orbit. Instead of an aluminum sphere, it was designed as a magnesium sphere and was 20 inches in diameter and internally gold plated.
Orange Wasn’t The Original Color of the Carrot
They Were Modified In The 17th Century! Your whole life has been a lie. Carrots were available in the colors white and purple up until Dutch farmers successfully modified them to be orange, to match the ruling of the House of Orange-Nassau and as a tribute to William of Orange. The orange carrot was bred in the Netherlands town of Hoorn around 1721 and scholars doubt it’s existence prior to the 16th century. The history and thousands of years of yellow, white and purple carrots were completely demolished and wiped out in a single generation. In the 18th century, this was ruled as an offensive tribute, and forced William of Orange to leave the hague. Carrots were then called the color of ‘sedition’ and were deemed to provocative. That’s right, the media deemed a helpless vegetable as “too provocative”.
The Nazis banned the book ‘Bambi!’ 'Bambi' is a difficult movie to watch. From Bambi's mother being killed by a hunter to the forest fire at the end, it's a lot for a little kid (or even an adult) to take. So it's unsurprising that the book it is based on was somewhat controversial.
Salten, however, moved to Switzerland and wrote the sequel ‘Bambi’s Children.’ He was introduced to Walt Disney years later and the ‘Bambi’ the movie came out in 1942.

Earthlike surface found on four planets There Are 4 Planets That Have Similar Surfaces To Earth Despite Their Inabilities to Inhabit Human Life! While there aren’t many planets that hold sustainability for life like Earth’s thus far, the gravity within a certain four planets are quite similar to ours here on Earth. Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune all possess a level of gravity that is within 15% of Earth’s gravity level. While this technically gives them an Earth-like surface, there are other factors that make them much different from our surface. Venus is also similar in size to Earth, which is why it is our sister planet, or “twin”. While the mass, density and volume are all less than ours, the gravity of Venus is over 90%. If you ever wanted to be skinnier without doing much work, try and take a flight to Venus and you’ll automatically weigh less. You wouldn’t make it out alive! Venus has a toxic, burning atmosphere. Therefore, not inhabitable despite it’s similar surfaces. A planet that has a not-so-similar surface would be Jupiter. It is the biggest in our solar system, which means it has the highest amount of gravity. But if you tried standing on Jupiter’s surface, it would be like walking on a massive, unstable bed. The surface isn’t solid and you would weight 2 times more!

A Flight Landed Safely, But All Passengers Inside Were Dead When The Doors Opened! No, this isn’t a Stephen King novel you’re about to read. This actually happened. Saudia Flight 163 took off on August 19th, 1980 and shortly after takeoff, a fire broke out on the flight. The plane landed safely, however, all 301 people on board had unfortunately passed away. There were no visible flames upon touchdown of the plane, which took over 2 and a half minutes to come to a complete stop on the runway. Then when emergency personnel went to the plane, it was engulfed in flames. Autopsies show that all died from smoke inhalation and not burns, which means they all died long before touchdown. The flight harbored 14 crew members and 287 passengers. This was the deadliest aviation accident in Saudi Arabia and the deadliest incident involving a Lockheed L-1011 in the world.

“THE INVISIBLE HAND OF GOD” So profound and to some unnoticeable is the working and the moving of the hand of God in our lives. In the Book of Daniel when the king of Babylon hosts a great feast, and goes to defile the holy vessels of the temple of God, God’s hand visibly pens His’ judgment upon the wall, just as He had also done when He penned the Ten Commandments with His’ own hand. David proclaims that even if he made his’ bed in some Godless Hell, that the ever watching eye of God & his’ ever moving hand would still be there. Moreover though, my mind is drawn to an account in the life of the prophet Elisha. Elisha, (pronounced E-li-sha) was the legacy of the prophet Elijah, who asked to receive a double portion blessing and stuck by his’ side until a whirlwind and chariot of fire came taking Elijah to Heaven. Quite literally Elisha is recorded to have preformed exactly double the miracles of Elijah, and to that point more miracles than anyone in the entire Bible, excluding Jesus Christ, whom it’s said preformed so many miracles that there are not enough books to record them all. Elisha was a man with a heart, vision, and strong faith in God. In 2 Kings 6:8-23 a tremendous story is told of his’ life. A king who conspired to assassinate the king of Israel laid wait for him, but over and over again he failed. When that king sought to find out why, his’ servants told him that the prophet of God reports to the king even the secrets which he utters in the privacy of his’ bedroom chambers. Bound and determined to have his’ way. A small army were sent to surround and kill the prophet. Elisha’s servant was afraid, but Elisha told him that not to be. He told him that there are more with us than against us, and prayed that his’ servant’s eyes would be opened to see beyond what mortal men can see. There covering the whole mountainside were an army of angels in fiery horse-drawn chariots, and whereas this along with a number of other scriptures destroy the notion that there are no animals in Heaven, it does so much more. The Bible tells us that God sees the sparrow when it falls, and expresses how much more he watches & cares for us. In the New Testament there is certainly scripture revolving around the mysteries of life, speaking auto how we “look through a glass darkly”, as we can’t comprehend why everything happens and what everything is. The Bible also states that it rains on the just & the unjust. Regardless, God’s hand still moves. There are times when we don’t see it, and there are times when we don’t give Him credit. Sometimes He closes doors that are best left closed. As people we want what we want, and we generally want it now, so that’s a hard pill to swallow. Many times He moves so swiftly that it’s not perceivable. It’s that same hand that set the Earth into orbit, lifted Peter when he was sinking beneath the sea. It’s the same hand that held back the Red Sea and let it crash down on Pharaoh & his’ army; the same hand that razed the walls of Jericho & left a very precise portion standing specifically to spare Rahab. God’s hand is fast, thinking, and precise. For 33 years Jesus Christ came bodily to this Earth, lived the perfect life, and was the perfect working of God’s hand. The Bible tells us that God’s ear is not so heavy that He can not hear us, nor is His’ arm so short that He can not reach us. He has great things for us & He’s reaching out to you.

Caring for Your New Puppy
* Encourage and reward the pup for going into the crate. Make the crate an enjoyable place with several toys and comfy, clean, easy-to-wash bedding. * At bedtime, keep the crate in your bedroom so he doesn't feel isolated, and so you can hear him if he wakes in the middle of the night to go out. PAW volunteer Jennifer Parker has found this technique effective; when she hears rustling, she whisks the puppy outside. * If a puppy cries for awhile in the crate and you ignore him, he usually will stop crying and fall asleep. (If you console or play with him, that teaches him that crying will be rewarded.) If he cries nonstop for longer than 15 minutes or seems panicky, work with him later to get him used to accepting being crated. If he wakes up during the night and cries, take him outside, since he probably has to go. Praise and reward him when he potties, then return him to the crate. * Train your puppy to sit quietly when he wants to be released from his crate or pen. Teach him that when you approach the door or gate, he must sit before you open it. If he jumps up, turn away. When he sits, start to open the door. But if he gets up turn away again. He will soon realize that if he sits and stays sitting, the door will open. If he gets up before you release him, close the door again. * You don't have to ask him to sit. You actually want him to choose to sit because that gets him what he wants -- out. This is a key to positive reinforcement training.

Buy Pet Food? Listen Up... To make it less stressful for a cat to use a traveling basket get them Think like a chef and start with the ingredients. Just because a bag is colorful and says, “Formulated by a veterinarian” or “Now with even more meat!” doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Also, terms like “gourmet” and “premium” on pet food labels are practically meaningless. These products are not required to uphold any higher standard of quality. Even a claim of “human-grade meat” is questionable. For example, meat that was once deemed safe for people may have spoiled and found its way into the pet food. The best pet food for most is high in protein and low in fillers. At least two meat sources that are named such as “lamb,” “turkey,” “chicken,” “elk,” “salmon,” “beef,” should show up in the first 5 ingredients. One of these should include a specifically named protein, such as “beef,” “turkey,” “lamb” or “chicken.” Stay away from pet foods that contain chicken byproducts and meat byproducts as these frequently include waste parts as well as rejected meats.

For safety sake, make sure that the pull-cord is not a loop; cut it so there are two strings so neither your cat nor your child will inadvertently get it caught around their neck. ---------------------------------If the smells and tidbits in the garbage can continually peak your cat's interest, get one with a lid, or keep it under the sink. ---------------------------------You may notice that your cat has a dirty chin - little black spots that look like acne. Simply put, it IS acne. And it can be quite painful, so you should take steps to get it cured as soon as possible. Though you might want to check with your vet, who can provide you with some medicine, you might want to try this first: Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide (pour some on a clean white washcloth, and sponge off the chin). You'll probably need to do this twice a day for a week or so. Next, take a look at the food dishes: how often do you clean them? Are they plastic? Are they very deep? Cat food dishes should be cleaned on a daily basis, particularly if you are feeding canned food. Plastic dishes may aggravate the acne, and deep food bowls definitely will.
