• A law enforcement officer, in the rain, changing a tire for an elderly man. • A strip mall and car wash will be coming to Midtown. • While an elderly lady was pushing her shopping cart out of the store, a carton of drinks fell off the buggy and rolled all over the parking lot. Three people immediately ran to her and helped her pick them all up. • A small child, after it was explained to him that the family would eat turkey for Thanksgiving asked if the turkey would be dead. • A building in Harriman with caskets displayed right in the front window. Hope this isn't a sign of a “dying town”.

The Magic Frog
An older lady was somewhat lonely and decided she needed a pet to keep her company. So off to the pet shop she went. She searched and searched. Nothing seemed to catch her interest, except this ugly frog. As she walked by the jar he was in, she looked and he winked at her and whispered , "I’m lonely too, buy me and you wont be sorry." The old lady figured.... what the heck, she hadn’t found anything else. She bought the frog and put him in the car. Driving down the road the frog whispered to her "kiss me and you wont be sorry" So the old lady figured What the heck, and kissed the frog. Immediately the frog turned into an absolutely gorgeous young handsome prince. The prince then kissed the old lady back ... and guess what the old lady turned into? Come on Guess!!! She turned into the first motel she could find. She's not dead!!!

Christmas Past
I loved Christmas time in Emory Gap. That was the only time, and I mean only time, we got new toys. Mama would let us have whatever we wanted, as long as the total wasn’t more than $7. Now, $7 was a lot of money in the 50’s, so we had a ball at Emery’s and Roses Dime Stores in Harriman. We also scanned through the Alden’s and Sears Catalog for more ideas. Back then $7 would buy you a beautiful doll with clothes, and even a doll buggy to roll it around in. We also got an extra gift that Mama called “our surprise” gift. We would all turn in our wish list to mama, and Santa always delivered them on Christmas night. Santa also filled all of us a stocking with an orange, apple, tangerTwo Two Man Front Front Doors Doors The New ine, pecans, and hard candy. Four widow ladies in a retirement home in Florida sitting outside, All us kids would draw names and buy a small gift for the person who’s name was drawn with pennies we had saved for months. The enjoying the day. A man walks up and says hello. One lady says "Are you new here?" price limit was 10 cents, so we would buy a ribbon for their hair, or a small note pad, or even candy. "Yes", he replied. I don’t remember any of us complaining about what we didn’t get Another lady asks "Where did you live before you moved here?" for Christmas. Be sure to have a plan B ready. If you're talking to your employer about getting a raise, it's important to plan for the possibility that they might say 'no. That's why companies are more willing to agree to work-life balance requests. Ariana Grande Ariana started making her big bucks at a young age thanks to her gig on Nickelodeon. But, she was rich before then, too. Her father, Edward Butera, is the CEO of a successful design company, Ibi Designs Inc., based out of Boca Raton, Florida. Miley Cyrus Everyone knows celebs make big money once they become famous, but some were actually rich kids, too. Take Miley Cyrus for example! Her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus...you know, the famous country singer. Of course, she grew up rich! Robin Thicke Robin Thicke is the son of Alan Thicke, aka Dr. Jason Seaver from Growing Pains. His mother is former soap actress Gloria Loring. Ed Sheeran Both of Ed's parents are successful artists. His father, John, is an art curator and a lecturer, while his mother, Imogen, makes jewelry (she was formerly a publicist). They also ran the independent art consultancy, Sheeran Lock, for 20 years. Adam Levine Adam's father founded M. Fredric, a retail clothing chain. Adam met two of his Maroon 5 band mates while attending the well-known private Brentwood School in Los Angeles. The Worst Things You Can Eat and Why
Ice Cream Ice cream, especially the super-dense premium varieties, is the worst of both worlds: It's heavy cream, which is full of cholesterol, mixed with boatloads of sugar (and other add-ons like brownies and cookies). While it might be tempting to down that whole pint, you might want to cut yourself off after a couple spoonfuls. Ribs The meat surrounding the ribs is among the fattiest you'll encounter, and while a little fat might drain off while it's cooking low and slow, most of it stays put. Meat fat is full of artery-clogging cholesterol and saturated fat, and because there's relatively little meat on the bones, it's pretty easy to burn through a whole rack. A full rack of baby back ribs can contain up to 75 grams of fat and 1500 calories, and a rack of fattier St. Louis-style ribs can contain nearly 100 grams of fat. Packaged Cakes and Cookies Few foods contain more trans fats than packaged sweet cakes and cookies. The reason? The addition of partially hydrogenated oils, which help keep the food shelf-stable and moist at the same time. Lots of preservatives are also added to prevent the fat from spoiling. It all amounts to nothing short of a "Frankenfood" that is devoid of just about anything that's natural. And that's before we even get to the sugar and fat content! Cinnabon Another specific food, but honestly these things are so unhealthy that they're in a class all by themselves. A Cinnabon Classic contains 880 calories and 36 grams of fat, 17 of which are saturated. By comparison, a Big Mac contains 550 calories and 29 grams of fat, 10 of which are saturated. Don't forget that this is a dessert, however, so there's nearly 60 grams of sugar, the equivalent of nearly two cans of Coke. How about an apple? Deep-Fried Foods in General The un-healthiest type of food you can eat, by far, is anything that's been deep-fried. Obviously, when you submerge food in fat in order to cook it, some of that fat soaks into the food, loading it up with fat and calories. Salty deep-fried foods are full of salt, and sugary deep-fried foods are also full of sugar; there's really no middle ground here. But besides the astronomic levels of fat, calories, and sodium or sugar, deep-fried foods are also extremely carcinogenic. According to recent studies, cooking foods at the high temperatures necessary for deep-fat frying caused toxic chemical compounds to form, which of course then get eaten. These compounds have been linked to several types of cancer. Deep-frying also causes foods to develop something called advanced glycation end-products, which has been linked to chronic inflammation.

Foods for Healthy Hair Eggs High in protein, zinc, selenium, sulfur and iron, eggs are, well, incredible for your hair! But you shouldn't just eat eggs for healthy hair: Try actually washing your locks out with eggs to strengthen and moisturize your hair. Just make sure you don't wash with water that's too hot — you don't want scrambled locks! Spinach Spinach and other dark green vegetables contain iron, beta-carotene, folate, and vitamin C, which all help to maintain healthy follicles and to produce scalp oils. Mayonnaise You shouldn't slather mayo onto your club sandwich and expect amazing results, but if you rub it into your scalp — that's a different story. Working it like a conditioner, massage your scalp with the condiment and let it set in your hair for a few minutes. Wash out, and you'll have fine, shiny tresses! Bacon Why yes, the bacon craze is even infiltrating your local salon. We are kidding of course, but eating a normal serving of bacon is great for extra B vitamins, zinc, and protein. Poultry If it is protein you seek, it doesn't get much more helpful than this protein-fueled food. We love how this delicious everyday meat will give you shiny locks!

A Tribute to my Friend
I met her in September, 1967. We were both in seventh grade. Anderson County schools had closed the small rural school that I had attended since first grade. We were transferred to Norwood Elementary school in Oliver Springs. Her last name was Lee. My last name was Lowe, so by way of alphabetical seating, we were seated across from each other. Darlene had lost her Father the year before. Her mother, a wonderful, strong woman, was left to raise Darlene and eight other children. She never remarrie3d. My grandfather had passed away 2 weeks before I met Darlene. We bonded so quickly, it was almost like we were sisters! As the years went by we were inseparable. We had other good friends that we loved as well, Tucker bug, Clara Bass, Pam Guy. God knows what we need in all areas of our lives. That includes friends, to help us through our journey of life! I know that the Lord knows our needs, and in 1967, I really needed this dear friend. We shared so many things, good times and sad times. Darlene was the kind of friend who knew your faults and failures, but loved you anyway. On November 8th, 2015, the Lord made the call and Mattie Darlene (Lee) Davis-Bradshaw, went to her heavenly home. The last day we spent together here on earth was a happy day. We went out for supper, drove across Norris Dam, saw several deer, we laughed and talked about old times, and our kids and grandkids. I thank God for that day. So if you have a cherished friend like I was blessed with, call them often and make sure they know how much you love them!

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone’s passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person’s share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, or a class to teach, one name was on everyone’s list, “Let Someone Else do it.” Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; “Someone Else can work with that group.” It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most generous givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference. Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? When you are asked to help this year, remember — we can’t depend on Someone Else anymore.

Christmas Traditions, and how they came about
According to American folklore Christmas Elves are tiny, dwarf-like creatures, either male or female, with pointed ears. They are youthful but immortal and have magical powers. It is believed with Santa Claus in the North Pole and acts as his helper. The Elves was often believed to make toys in Santa Claus’s workshop and was often entrusted with duty of taking care of Santa’s reindeer. Christmas Ornaments The tradition of Christmas trees and Christmas Ornaments is a much disputed one what with several theories about their origin doing the rounds for a long time. The most popular theory holds that the tradition was started by a monk who came to Germany in the 7th/8th century to preach. It is said that this monk was Saint Boniface, the Apostle of the Germans. According to history, the saint was the first one to bring a fir tree to the German people to decorate, for he believed that its triangular shape represented the Holy Trinity - God, his son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The tradition was lapped up by the devout Germans who started decorating the Christmas tree in a liturgical way with simple, white candles. This however, changed in the 15th century when ornaments began to be incorporated into the Christmas decorations in Germany. In Latvia, circa 1510, a fir tree was decorated with roses which were associated with the Virgin Mary. This event is often hailed as the pioneer of modern Christmas decorations.
Christmas Tree
A Christmas tree is an evergreen coniferous tree, traditionally decorated with edibles such as nuts, apples or dates. The concept of decorating this tree was first introduced by Germany long back in 16th century. It was the time when Christians brought adorned Christian tree to their homes. But soon after the Reformation, the upper class protestant started keeping this decorative tree back home.
Holly Prickly
The plant with its shiny green prickly leaves and red berry has come to stand for peace and joy. People often settle arguments under a Holly tree. It is believed Holly frighten off witches and protect homes from thunder and lighting. There’s a pagan connotation attached to this tree, the Druids believed that Holly, with its evergreen look keeps the earth beautiful when the sacred oak lost it leaves. They used to wear twigs of Holly in their hair when they went into the forest to watch their priests, cut the sacred mistletoe.

Some 2000 years ago a young lady, named Mary, about 15 years of age, was praying in her home. All of a sudden she saw a stranger standing before her. She did not know how he had come in. The visitor was brighter than the light of day, and Mary frightened. She understood that he was not a man but an angel, when he greeted her. The angel told her not to be afraid. Then he delivered her the message that she would bear a son to be called Jesus." He shall be great," said the angel.
Mistletoe
Mistletoe is an evergreen partial parasitic plant, which grows on the branches of trees, where it forms pendent bushes, 2 to 5 feet in diameter. It sends out roots which penetrate into the tree and take up nutrients. Many mystical power is been associated with this plant. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a fictional animal with a glowing red nose. According to the famous folklore it is believed, this fictional animal used to drive Santa Claus’s carriage on the Christmas Eve, making his way through the snowy winter roads. The luminosity of his nose was so great, that it helped him show the way through
the dark snowy streets. Santa Claus
The whole image of Santa Claus aroused from the famous Saint Nicolas. Many legends and miracles are attributed to Saint Nicholas, depicted as Santa Clause, a stout figured character wearing red coat and trouser. The transformation of Saint Nicholas to Santa Claus happened largely in America - with inspiration from the Dutch. Saint Nicolas, as a child was well known for his generosity.
The Christmas Star
The Christmas Star represents the star of Bethlehem. The star appears in the nativity story of the Gospel of Matthew, where magi "from the east" are guided by the star to travel to Jerusalem. There they meet King Herod of Judea, and ask him, where the king of the Jews had been born. Herod directs them to Bethlehem, a nearby village. The star leads them to Jesus's house in Bethlehem, where they pay him homage and give him gifts.
The Poinsettia
The Poinsettia is a beautiful red, star shaped flower, favorite of United States. Some legends are associated with this flower, which make this flower even more divine. The legend comes from Mexico, where a poor little girl named Maria and her little brother Pablo, used to celebrate Christmas in their village. The two children were very kind hearted. They wished to distribute gifts in the manger scene set up. But they were heartbroken since they did not have enough money to buy gifts. So they picked up some weeds on their way, and presented them to their baby Jesus. Though they became an object of fun to every villager present, but to their astonishment, the green top leaves turned into bright red petals, and soon the manger was surrounded by beautiful star-like flowers and so we see them today.

Holiday Stains
To remove coffee (or tea) stains, rinse area with cold water immediately. Rub in a couple of drops of a mild, white dishwashing liquid and rinse well. Then treat with a mixture of one-part white household vinegar and three-parts water. Rinse again and launder as you normally do. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Line an 8-inch-square baking pan with foil. Combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter and salt in medium, heavy-duty saucepan. Bring to a full rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil, stirring constantly, for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in marshmallows, morsels, nuts and vanilla extract. Stir vigorously for 1 minute or until marshmallows are melted. Pour into prepared baking pan; refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Lift from pan; remove foil. Cut into 48 • To clean up gravy, spoon it up as fast as you can. Sprinkle artificial pieces. Pecan Pie Balls sweetener or flour over the stained area to absorb the grease. Put the tablecloth into a sink and soak in a mixture of one teaspoon of a mild, 2 1/2 c pecans, toasted and chopped 1/4 c bourbon, brandy (optional) colorless detergent with each cup of lukewarm water for at least 20 1 c graham crackers 1 tsp vanilla minutes. Then wash as usual and let air dry—don’t put in the dryer. 1 c brown sugar, firmly packed 7 oz dark o white chocolate bark 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp coarse sea salt (optional) • To remove red-wine stains, pour a big dose of salt on top of the 2 Tbsp maple syrup stain to absorb the liquid. Put the tablecloth into cold water and try to rub out the stain. Use an enzyme detergent in the hottest water Combine first four ingredients in large bowl. Add maple syrup, bourbon, and vanilla. Use your hands safe for the fabric, soak for 30 minutes and launder. to make sure all the ingredients are mixed thoroughly. Almond extract can be subbed for non alcohol version...add water to equal liquid amount. You can also try non alcohol rum flavoring. Form balls by scooping a tablespoon size amount of mixture and rolling in hands to form balls. Place balls on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Tip: After all balls are made, roll balls again with slightly water damped hands. This will make balls smooth before dipping in chocolate. Place balls on cookie sheet in freezer for 2 hrs. Melt chocolate bark in a double boiler or microwave per directions on package. Dip frozen balls into chocolate, then place on the parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Home Cooked Meals Optional: Sprinkle a few grains of coarse sea salt on balls before the chocolate sets. These freeze well. Take out of freezer and let sit for 15 minutes. They are also good frozen!

Essential Oils
Create your own home fragrances with essential oils, such as cinnamon, orange, lavender, peppermint or eucalyptus, which can be found at independent drugstores. Try these hints to make every room smell wonderful: Air Fresheners. Put several drops of peppermint or cinnamon on cotton balls and place in a margarine container or small jar. Poke holes into the lid and put in an out-of-the-way area behind furniture or in a guest room or bathroom and your guests won’t have a clue. Scented Light bulbs. Dab a bit of oil of clove, peppermint or eucalyptus on a cool lightbulb. When you turn on the light, the scent will drift throughout the room. Refresh Dried Flowers and Wreaths. Add a few drops of the your favorite essential oil to freshen and revive. Do not put oil directly on silk flowers or any material because it could stain. Good Kitchen Smells Without Cooking. If you don’t have the time to bake all day in your kitchen, create an inviting smell instead by putting a few drops of cinnamon, anise, orange or peppermint oil on a cotton ball and put it on the inside of the cardboard tube of the paper towel roll or dab on a dried-flower arrangement. Simmer a small pot of water and add a drop of the essential oil that matches the mood you want to create.

Don’t clog your drain! Save yourself money by not having to call a plumber. When you cook ground beef, Place a colander into a metal bowl and place the entire “contraption” into the sink. Then pour the cooked meat and fat into the colander and allow it to drain for a few minutes. After a few minutes, move the colander with the meat back to the skillet and carefully pour the grease left in the metal bowl into a recycled glass jar. Penny Pinchers Pay bills on time and avoid late fees. It's a no-brainer, but something I think most people are guilty of, myself included. Make your own furniture dusting spray with olive oil, vinegar, lemon essential oil, and water. For the recipe, click here. Vacuum out your dryer's vent at least once a year. Not only is all that lint in there a fire hazard, but when it's cleared out, your dryer works much more efficiently. When we vacuumed out ours, I noticed a huge difference in how fast things dried, especially towels. For a complete step-by-step how-to, click here. 'Selective squeamishness' can save you a lot of money. I first learned the term from The Tightwad Gazette. Basically, selective squeamishness means that you move past the initial "ick!" reaction and realize somethings not so bad after all. For example, this past fall my husband and I picked tons of apples from his parents' yard. Since they don't spray their trees (yay! free organic apples!), lots of the apples had holes where worms had bitten them. Some were unbitten but bruised. No big deal -- we just cut around the blemishes and made applesauce with them. An easy way to save money: whenever you pay in cash, save the coins. Only use paper money to buy things. Use a jar, can, or even a traditional piggy bank like mine to save all the coins you get. A few dimes here, a couple quarters there adds up. I can't wait to see how much we get out of our bank (it's half-full and it's already so heavy!). Have a big family? Save money during the holidays by organizing a gift swap where everyone draws a name of someone in the family. You could even set a limit to how much everyone can spend. Both my family and my husband's family have been doing this for the last few years and it has worked out well. Drive your car like you would ride a bike. You don't see cyclists gunning uphill -- they take it slow and steady. They use momentum on hills to their advantage. Cyclists don't hit the brakes at the last minute -- they slow down and ease into stops. Most cyclists start slowly after a stop and gradually speed up. Driving like you're riding a bike won't only save gas, but it'll be easier on your car, too. Stock up on kitchen staples when they go on sale. Whenever I go grocery shopping and I see something we eat a lot of on sale, I buy extras. Also, some things go on sale at certain times of year. One example: around the holidays, all the baking stuff goes on sale and that's when I stock up on butter, sugar, flour, etc.

Top 5 worst cities for retirement No. 5: Newark, New Jersey Newark bustles with cultural and entertainment activities, such as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Prudential Center, Newark Symphony Hall and Newark Museum. Halsey Village is the heart of the city's thriving art scene, and foodies can fill their tummies at Restaurant Row at Edison Place. The best part for retirees is much of it can be seen on foot, because Newark is the seventh-most walkable city. The city is also located in a state with a decent health care system. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality notes New Jersey's low level of hospitalizations for the flu among seniors, low stays at nursing homes for moderate to severe pain, and high instances of improved mobility among adult home care patients. But, like many cities, Newark is a pain for the piggy bank. It is located in the second-highest tax-burdened state, ranking behind New York. The average apartment rent is $1,527 per month, or two-thirds higher than the national average. Newark home prices are 62 percent higher than average. No. 4: Buffalo (and surrounding area), New York The city once known as the "Gateway to the West" on the Erie Canal has redeveloped its waterfront and features a host of historic, cultural and entertainment offerings within walking distance, its best feature for retirees. Buffalo is somewhat walkable, somewhat bike-friendly and has good public transit. Seniors can see seven structures designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, visit where President Roosevelt was inaugurated and take a car ride to Niagara Falls. But, senior residents have to deal with high taxes because it has the worst tax burden in the country. They also have to worry about high crime. Violent crimes in the city were more than three times the national average figures from 2013. Property crimes were also higher than average. Seniors also need to bundle up and get ready to shovel during the winter. Nearly 6 feet of snow falls every year in the city, and normal temperatures hold below freezing from December through February. That helps to drive up total average energy costs to $181.88, or 7 percent higher than the average of 308 U.S. cities. However, general living costs are more favorable. Nearby cities Niagara Falls and Cheektowaga also rank near the bottom of our list. No. 3: New Haven (and surrounding area), Connecticut The second-largest city in Connecticut offers residents a tangible connection with the past. The historic downtown still includes the original nine squares laid in 1638. Then there is Yale University, which was founded in 1701. But retirees will have to shell out more money on everyday items from Coke to toothpaste, along with bigger bucks on rent and buying a home. They will also have to contend with higher taxes -- the state ranks third-highest in state-local tax burden as a share of income, at 11.9 percent versus the U.S. average of 9.8 percent. New Haven also is home to a relatively high crime rate. The incidence of violent crimes in the city is more than triple the national average. The New Haven-Milford area also received the lowest score by Healthways for well-being among seniors. The Healthways score is tied to the amount of community pride, personal satisfaction, happiness and other factors that people who were 65 and older noted in its surveys. No. 2: Little Rock, Arkansas Little Rock is one of the more affordable cities in the U.S. Retirees heading to the Arkansas capital can expect relatively cheap housing. An apartment rents for an average of $777 a month, 15 less percent less than the national average. But the health care system has a lot of problems. The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ranks the state as the sixth worst in terms of health care quality. The agency noted that Arkansas recorded too many avoidable hospital admissions for angina, chronic obstructive lung disease, asthma and hypertension. Too many residents who needed to see a doctor could not because of cost in the past year. It also found that the number of long-stay nursing home residents in restraints was higher than average. Little Rock also experiences high crime. The rate of violent and property crimes was triple the national average. The strain of living in a high-crime area and having a poor health care system may have been reflected in surveys of the 65-plus population in the area. Healthways gives Little Rock and the surrounding areas of North Little Rock and Conway its second-lowest well-being score, ranking it 104th out of 105 metro areas. No. 1: New York City Frank Sinatra sang that if he could make it here, he could make it anywhere. But he didn't mention how much cash you would need, especially if you plan to retire in the Big Apple. The cost of living catapults the city to the No. 1 worst place to retire. The smaller stuff is pricey, too. You'll spend $8.05 more for a haircut, and $4.04 more for a movie. New York state has the highest state-local tax burden in the nation at 12.6 percent. Secret Shoppers
Secret shopper or mystery shopper scams have been with us for years. It works like this: A would-be employer sends you a certified check or a cashier’s check written out for as much as $5,000. The person then asks you to deposit the money into your checking account and use it to make purchases from a store and evaluate your shopping experience. You get paid by deducting your fee and the cost of your purchases from the funds provided to you. Anything that's left over, you're asked to wire back to the mystery shopper company. The problem: The check the fraudster sent you is, in fact, counterfeit. So when you wire money from your checking account to the mystery shopper company, you are wiring your own funds, which are lost forever. That check didn't really clear. Some victims of this scam, believing they are being exceedingly careful, wait a few days for the check they are sent to clear. They then wire the funds, as requested, back to the company, only to learn a few days later the check was counterfeit and that their bank had only given them provisional credit for the deposit. A Christmas Letter From Grandma
Dear Family, I'm not dead yet. Christmas is still important to me. If being in my Last Will and Testament is important to you, then you might consider being with me for my favorite holiday. Dinner is at 2:00. Not 2:15. Not 2:05. Two. 2:00! Arrive late and you get what's left over. Last year, that moron Marshall fried a turkey in one of those contraptions and practically burned the deck off the house. This year, the only peanut oil used to make the meal will be from the secret scoop of peanut butter I add to the carrot soup. Jonathan, your last new wife was an idiot. You don't arrive at someone's house on Christmas needing to use the oven and the stove. Honest to God, I thought you might have learned after two wives - date them longer and save us all the agony of another divorce. Now, the house rules are slightly different This year because I have decided that 47% of you don't know how to take care of nice things. Paper plates and red Solo cups might be bad for the environment, but I'll be gone soon and that will be your problem to deal with. House Rules: 1. The University of Texas no longer plays Texas A&M. The television stays off during the meal. 2. The "no cans for kids" rule still exists. We are using 2 liter bottles because your children still open a third can before finishing the first two. Parents can fill a child's cup when it is empty. All of the cups have names on them and I'll be paying close attention to refills. 3. Chloe, last year we were at Trudy's house and I looked the other way when your Jell-O salad showed up. This year, if Jell-O salad comes in the front door it will go right back out the back door with the garbage. Save yourself some time, honey. You've never been a good cook and you shouldn't bring something that wiggles more than you. Buy something from the bakery. 4. Grandmothers give grandchildren cookies and candy. That is a fact of life. Your children can eat healthy at your home. At my home, they can eat whatever they like as long as they finish it. 5. I cook with bacon and bacon grease. That's nothing new. Your being a vegetarian doesn't change the fact that stuffing without bacon is like egg salad without eggs. Even the green bean casserole has a little bacon grease in it. That's why it tastes so good. Not eating bacon is just not natural. And as far as being healthy... look at me. I've outlived almost everyone I know. 6. Salad for Christmas dinner is a waste of space. 7. I do not like cell phones. Leave them in the car. 8. I do not like video cameras. There will be 32 people here. I am sure you can capture lots of memories without the camera pointed at me. 9. Being a mother means you have to actually pay attention to the kids. I have nice things and I don't put them away just because company is coming over. Mary, watch your kids and I'll watch my things. 10. Rhonda, a cat that requires a shot twice a day is a cat that has lived too many lives. I think staying home to care for the cat is your way of letting me know that I have lived too many lives too. I can live with that. Can you? 11. Words mean things. I say what I mean. Let me repeat: You don't need to bring anything means you don't need to bring anything. And if I did tell you to bring something, bring it in the quantity I said. Really, this doesn't have to be difficult. 12. Domino's and cards are better than anything that requires a battery or an on/off switch. That was true when you were kids and it's true now that you have kids. 13. The best way to avoid a lengthy clean-up at the end of your party is to prepare BEFORE the party even starts – make sure you have coasters readily available and designate an area to keep food and drinks – keep microfiber cloths or paper towel handy to clean up any spills AS THEY HAPPEN. It’s also important to recruit some people to help you clean if you can – a few extra hands makes the clean-up substantially easier then going it alone. Have some food containers ready – or ask your guests to bring containers so you can easily hand out left overs at the end of the night. Be sure to leave a garbage can and maybe even a recycling bin in an obvious place and remember to close the door to rooms that you want to keep off limits while your guests are over..you may also wish to move any valuable items to a safe place. Were there dinosaurs in Tennessee?
Most of the more famous dinosaur museums are quite a distance from home for most Tennesseans, but there are some options here that might satisfy your prehistoric interests, or at least hold you over until you can make a longer trek. The first thing you need to know is that very few dinosaur bones have been found in Tennessee. In fact, only five dinosaur bones are known to have been found in the entire state. Those bones belong to a single adult hadrosaur. They are known as the duck-billed dinosaurs of the Cretaceous. The lived from 75 to 65 million years ago. Many species have chambered or solid crests on their skull which they may have used to blast auditory signals. Hadrosaurs were fast running herbivores that dwelled on land and had evolved a unique way of chewing their food. The hadrosaur was a large, duck billed herbivore that stood on its hind legs. The bones are now on display at the McClung Museum at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Unless more dinosaur bones are found, it’s difficult to know how many of the creatures once roamed our back yards. When it comes to other prehistoric animals, though, we know a lot more, because there is much more fossil evidence. Perhaps the most notable location is known as the Gray Fossil Site and is near the small town of Gray, Tennessee. This rich trove of fossils was accidentally turned up by a highway construction crew in 2000. Since then, a museum has been built near the site to display the local discoveries, as well as other exhibits.

Yes. Cobwebs are made by spiders. Arachnologically speaking, a "cobweb" is a web made up of short irregular strands arranged haphazardly, as opposed to the elegant and elaborate orb webs made by spiders of the family Araneidae. The "cobweb spiders" make up the family Theridiidae. One of the commonest in the U.S. is the common house spider Achaearanea tepidariorum. December 7, 1941 “A Date Which Will Live in Infamy” Facts about the attack at Pearl Harbor
Although the aerial attack was very successful, the submarines failed to finish off any wounded ship inside the harbor. The attacks success surprised the Japanese as much as the Americans. Japanese force consisted of six carriers with 423 planes. At 6 a.m. the first Japanese attack wave of 83 planes took off. Eighteen U.S. ships were hit. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy," in reference to the attack. Three prime targets escaped damage, the U.S. Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers, the Lexington, Enterprise and Saratoga. They were not in the port when the attack took place. Another target, the base fuel tanks also escaped damage. Casualties included 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians. 1178 people were wounded. The day after the attack the U.S. and Britain declared war on Japan. Pearl Harbor is the Naval Base for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. It has 10 square miles of navigable water. The harbor is on the southern coast of Oahu. The attack was the climax of a decade of worsening relations between the U.S. and militaristic Japan. A U.S. embargo on necessary supplies for war prompted the attack on Pearl Harbor. All of the planes on the Japanese ships were fully fueled and armed. The Japanese planes took off about 90 minutes from Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were interested in the Hawaiian islands since the islands were annexed by the U.S. in 1898. The president at the time of the attack was Franklin D. Roosevelt. The attack brought the United States into World War II.
More War Facts The Hundred Years War lasted for 116 years The Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia, has twice as many bathrooms as is necessary. When it was built in the 1940s, the state of Virginia still had segregation laws requiring separate toilet facilities for blacks and whites.
An admiral said, "leaving aside the unspeakable treachery of it, the Japanese did a fine job." Japanese suffered just small losses. The attack crippled the United States fleet. The attack was planned weeks in advance. The main reason for the attack was over economic issues. Because of the unpreparedness of the U.S. military, Admiral Husband Kimmel and General Walter Short were relieved of duty. The attack severely crippled the U.S. naval and air strength in the Pacific. Of the 8 battleships, all but the Arizona and Oklahoma were eventually repaired and returned to service. Once the fleet was out of action, Japan would be able to conquest a great area. More than 180 U.S. aircraft were destroyed. During the attack the USS Arizona sank with a loss of more than 1,100 men. A white concrete and steel structure now spans the hull of the sunken ship as a memorial. U.S. officials had been aware that an attack by Japan was probable, but did not know the time or place it would occur. Pearl Harbor was not in the state of high alert when the attack started. Anti-Aircraft guns were left unmanned. The Americans were taken completely by surprise. The main targets for the first wave was the airfield and battleships. The second wave targets were other ships and shipyard facilities. The air raid lasted until about 9:45 a.m.

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car, neither one could hardly see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red but they went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light!" After a few more minutes they came to another intersection, the light was red, and again they went right through. This time, the passenger was almost sure that the light had been red, but was also concerned that she might be seeing things. She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was definitely red and they went right through it. She turned to the other woman and said, "Mildred! Did you know we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us!" Mildred turned to her and said, "Oh My Gosh!! Am I driving!!?"

Advantages of getting old
Kidnappers are not very interested in you. In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first. No one expects you to run anywhere. People call at 9 PM and ask, 'Did I wake you?' People no longer view you as a hypochondriac. There is nothing left to learn the hard way. Things you buy now won't wear out. You can eat supper at 4 PM. You can live without sex but not your glasses. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room. You sing along with elevator music. Your eyes won't get much worse. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
Peppermint decorations Peppermint Candy Ornaments are thrifty and quick to make. You could make a dozen of these edible ornaments at just a dollar per bag of peppermints! All you need is: •peppermint candies •metal cookie cutters •non-stick cooking spray •parchment paper •toothpick or skewer •twine or ribbon Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray the inside of each cookie cutter with cooking spray. Lay cookie cutters on baking sheet and fill with a layer of peppermints. Bake for 3-9 minutes. Keep an eye on candy as it melts, remove from oven when candies have melted together. Lightly coat a toothpick with cooking spray and use it to make a hole in each group of candies. Let candy sit inside cookie cutter until it re-hardens. Once hard, carefully stretch out the cookie cutter, pulling it away from the candy, to pop out your ornament. • Make a trial run: Place one peppermint-filled cookie cutter into the oven to get an idea of how fast the candy will melt and how quickly it will cool and re-harden after you remove it from the oven. • Turn down the temperature for the candies to melt slowly, if your candies are melting unevenly or at different rates. • Squeeze as many peppermints into your cookie cutter as possible. If peppermints melt into too thin a layer, try layering them in the cookie cutter to make them thicker and more sturdy. • Try not to handle the ornaments too much because they can get sticky, but they should be fine after they’re hanging on the tree.

Chihuahuas- territorial and protective The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog and is named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. Chihuahuas are noted for their nervous temperament and diminutive appearance. The Chihuahua’s history is a puzzling one, as there are many theories surrounding their true origin. The Chihuahua was used in sacred rituals as they were considered holy to pre-Columbian Indian nations. They were also popular pets among the upper class. The breed draws its name from the Mexican State of Chihuahua, where the first specimens of the breed were discovered. Being naturally territorial and protective, Chihuahuas can be easily provoked to attack, and are therefore generally unsuitable for homes with small children. The AKC describes the breed as, "A graceful, alert, swift-moving little dog with saucy expression, compact, and with terrier-like qualities of temperament." The breed tends to be fiercely loyal to one particular owner and in some cases may become over protective of the person especially around other people or animals, but may be attached to more. They do not always get along with other breeds, and tend to have a "clannish" nature, often preferring the companionship of other Chihuahuas over other dogs. These traits generally make them unsuitable for households with children that are not patient and calm. Chihuahuas crave attention, affection, exercise and being petted. They can be hyper, but eager to please. They have a reputation as a "yappy" dog, which can be resolved with proper training. Chihuahuas with proper breeding are not "yappy"; the AKC standard calls for "a terrier-like attitude."

The Responsible Cat Owner
Most, if not all communities, require each cat in a household to be registered and some of them have limits on the number of cats one household can own (check with your local animal control if you are not certain of these limits). Keeping your cat indoors avoids potential problems with your neighbors and it also protects your cat from being hit by a car, encounters with unfriendly dogs, attacks by other animals, parasites, poisoning, disease and other outdoor hazards. Cats who are allowed to roam may damage neighbors gardens or use planters as litter boxes. Spaying and neutering your cats will potentially make them better neighbors. Spaying eliminates the problem of a female in heat who attracts male cats and neutering your male cat will eliminate his urge to roam and spray, which can be very unpleasant because of the odor.

When Dogs Chase Cats
Often, the crux of the problem that the dog likes to chase the cat. Hence, the dog will not stop doing so on his own. In fact, he is likely to develop new and better ways to make it more enjoyable - feign unconcern then leap up when the cat gets close, let the cat walk up for a sniff, then lunge at the last moment. Ah, the joys of it - for the dog. The cat, however, is having less fun. Here are my ideas: High Hiding Spots Your cat needs places he can retreat to safely when he is downstairs. Those floor-to-ceiling climbers work well for this. Make sure they are securely installed then let your cat discover it. This will create safe harbor downstairs. Dog on Lead Until you have verbal control [which few people ever achieve], you must have physical control over your dog. Chasing is a potent reward for many dogs, and it will take some consistence and persistence to get it under control. Until then, keep the dog on lead when a cat is around. [Note: Do not leave leash or training collars on a dog when not you're not supervising -- the dog could get strangled. Use only a snug-fitted flat buckle collar for ID.] Teach Dog "Leave It" and "Down" Work on these two behaviors when the cat is not around. Work on them with praise, play and treats until your dog is eager to hear them uttered. Do dozens of repetitions until your dog understands exactly what you want him to do. We issue vouchers each month to Planned Pethood. We are working with Mark Neely at the Rockwood City Animal Shelter in his established pet food pantry. We educate others about the importance of spaying and neutering, vaccinating, caring for, and properly vetting pets. We are a not for profit organization. We are not a 501c3. We rely on the donations of our community members to fund our vouchers and assist with pet care needs. Each dollar donated goes directly toward the care of pets in our area.
