Prayers for Kayden Kayden Christopher is 8 months old and is from Harriman. He is the son of Matt Christopher, and grandson of Kay & Larry Christopher. Kayden has an inoperable brain tumor. He is presently at St. Judes in Memphis undergoing chemo. Although doctors have said there is nothing that can be done to help Kayden, we are asking for prayers and help. Kayden is expected to be at St. Judes for at least 4-6 months. A family member must be with him 24 hours a day to monitor his progress. Although his medical and lodging bills are paid by St. Judes, there are other expenses, such as food, formula, diapers and transportation to and from Memphis to enable a family member to rotate staying there. Kayden has an account at ORNL Federal Credit Union (acct. # 107004252120) for donations to help pay for the expenses. A “www.gofundme.com” account has also been set up on Facebook. It was very distracting for my husband who just wanted to relax." 2. "On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don't like spicy food." 3. Who is Danny Thomas? In the early 1950s, Danny began discussing with friends what concrete form his vow might take. Gradually, the idea of a children’s hospital, possibly in Memphis, Tennessee, took shape. In 1955, Danny Thomas and a group of Memphis businessmen who had agreed to help support his dream seized on the idea of creating a unique research hospital devoted to curing catastrophic diseases in children. More than just a treatment facility, this would be a research center for the children of the world. Danny started raising money for his vision of St. Jude in the early 1950s. By 1955, the local business leaders who had joined his cause began area fundraising efforts, supplementing Danny's benefit shows that brought scores of major entertainment stars to Memphis. Often accompanied by his wife, Rose Marie, Danny crisscrossed the United States by car, sharing his dream and raising funds at meetings and benefits. The pace was so hectic that Danny Thomas and his wife once visited 28 cities in 32 days. Although Danny Thomas and his friends raised the money to build the hospital, they now faced the daunting task of funding its annual operation. To solve this problem, Danny, of Lebanese decent, turned to his fellow Americans of Arabic-speaking heritage. Believing deeply that these Americans should, as a group, thank the United States for the gifts of freedom given their parents, Danny also felt the support of St. Jude would be a noble way of honoring his immigrant forefathers who had come to America. Danny’s request struck a responsive chord. In 1957, 100 representatives of the Arab-American community met in Chicago to form ALSAC® with a sole purpose of raising funds for the support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Since that time, with national headquarters in Memphis and regional offices throughout the United States, ALSAC has assumed full responsibility for all the hospital’s fundraising efforts, raising hundreds of millions annually through benefits and solicitation drives among Americans of all ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds. Today, ALSAC is the nation’s second largest health-care charity* and is supported by the efforts of more than 1 million volunteers nationwide. Through striking improvements in the care of pediatric leukemias and numerous forms of solid tumors, St. Jude—which now has a daily operating cost of $2 million—has brought about improved health care for children all over the world. St. Jude’s physicians and scientists have pioneered treatments that have helped push the overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today. From a promise of “Help me find my way in life, and I will build you a shrine” to the fulfillment of his dream, Danny lived to see his little hospital become an international beacon of hope for the catastrophically ill children of the world. The founder of St. Jude and ALSAC died on February 6, 1991, just two days after joining patients, parents and employees to celebrate the hospital’s 29th anniversary. He was laid to rest in a family crypt at the Danny Thomas/ALSAC Pavilion on the grounds of the hospital. On July 12, 2000, his wife, Rose Marie, passed away and now lies with her beloved husband in the hospital’s Memorial Garden. Today, their children, Marlo, Terre and Tony, carry on their parents’ work and remain a driving force in fulfilling their father’s mission. Danny Thomas is gone, but his dream lives on.

Why Did Jesus Fold the Napkin? This is one I can honestly say I have never seen circulating so; if this touches you, you may want to forward it. Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? I never noticed this.... The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed separate from the grave clothes. Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!' Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see.. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side. Was that important? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes! In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it... The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now, if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done.' But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because........... The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!' He is Coming Back!

Overdue movie
According to a story published in the Washington Post, a North Carolina man was arrested because he had an outstanding warrant issued because he failed to return a VHS movie he rented 14 years ago. James Meyers, 37, told his story in a video that went viral about how he was driving his daughter to school and was pulled over by a police officer because he had a broken brake light only to find out that he had a warrant for his arrest. In the video, Meyers states that the officer, himself, thought enough of the situation that rather than arrest him on the spot, he allowed Meyers to take his daughter to school and show up at the police department later that day to deal with the warrant.

Saving babies--Marine style AFTER FLIGHT 77 hit the Pentagon on 9/11, the following incident occurred: A chaplain, who happened to be assigned to the Pentagon, told of an incident that never made the news. A daycare facility inside the Pentagon had many children, including infants who were in heavy cribs. The daycare supervisor, looking at all the children they needed to evacuate, was in a panic over what they could do. There were many children, mostly toddlers, as well as the infants that would need to be taken out with the cribs. There was no time to try to bundle them into carriers and strollers. Just then a young Marine came running into the center and asked what they needed. After hearing what the center director was trying to do, he ran back out into the hallway and disappeared. The director thought, "Well, here we are, on our own." About 2 minutes later, that Marine returned with 40 other Marines in tow. Each of them grabbed a crib with a child, and the rest started gathering up toddlers. The director and her staff then helped them take all the children out of the center and down toward the park near the Potomac. Once they got about 3/4 of a mile outside the building, the Marines stopped in the park, and then did a fabulous thing - they formed a circle with the cribs, which were quite sturdy and heavy, like the covered wagons in the Old West. Inside this circle of cribs, they put the toddlers, to keep them from wandering off. Outside this circle were the 40 Marines, forming a perimeter around the children and waiting for instructions. There they remained until the parents could be notified and come get their children. The chaplain then said, "I don't think any of us saw nor heard of this on any of the news stories of the day. It was an incredible story of our men there.� There wasn't a dry eye in the room. The thought of those Marines and what they did and how fast they reacted; could we expect any less from them? It was one of the most touching stories from the Pentagon. It's the Military, not the politicians that ensures our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

Helping your kids learn to read
What can parents do to help their preschoolers in the learning-to-read process?
Research shows that children learn about reading before they enter school. In fact, they learn in the best manner-through observation. Young children, for example, see people around them reading newspapers, books, maps, and signs. Parents can do a lot to foster an understanding of print by talking with their preschoolers about signs in their environment and by letting their children know they enjoy reading themselves. When reading to your preschooler, you should run your index finger under the line of print. This procedure is simple and helps children begin to notice words and that words have meaning. They also gain an awareness of the conventions of reading (e.g., one reads from left to right and from the top of the page to the bottom; sentences are made up of words; and some sentences extend beyond a single line of print).
What can I do for my school-age child who doesn't like to read? In the early elementary years, from first through third grades,
children continue learning how to read. It is a complex process, difficult for some and easy for others. Care must be taken during these early years not to overemphasize the learning-to-read process. Reading for pleasure and information develops reading interests and offers children the opportunity to practice their reading skills in meaningful ways. Parents of elementary-age children should provide reading materials in the home that arouse curiosity or extend their child's natural interest in the world around them. By encouraging and modeling leisure-time reading in the home, parents take the most important step in fostering their child's reading development.

Household Hints ARE YOUR CUPS STAINED? If your cups are stained from tea or coffee, rub baking soda into the cup with a cloth and water to remove the stains. Rinse with water. COOKING ODORS Add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice to vegetables that stink when you are cooking them. Also works when frying fish. Just add the lemon juice to the pan or pot. I use this helpful hint and love it. My house never smells bad from cooking odors. I use 2 Tbsp. lemon juice when frying salmon patties and the smell is gone as soon as I am done frying . I just mix it in with my oil in the skillet. COOLER ODORS If your ice chest or picnic cooler has a nasty smell to it, but it is clean, just wipe it out and place a bowl of vinegar in it. Close the lid and let it stand overnight. Next day, the odor should be gone. CORD HOLDERS Use empty paper towel tubes to hold your electric cords or Christmas tree lights. Use one tube per cord or strand. On the outside of the paper tube write the size of the cord or what kind of lights are inside it. Store in a drawer so you can find them easily when you need them and no more tangled up tree lights next year. GNAT OR FRUITFLY KILLER Fill a small jar with 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar and some water. Let it sit on the countertop and they will go for it and drown. JAR OPENER Put a wide rubber band around the lid of the jar and you can open it easily. You can cut off the wrist area of a rubber glove and use it for a wide rubber band. SUPER GLUE REMOVER Use acetone nail polish remover on a cotton ball and let it saturate the super glue to remove it. AUTOMATIC DRIP COFFEE POT CLEANER Add 1 cup white distilled vinegar to your automatic drip coffee pot to clean it out. Rinse well with a pot of cold, clean water. DUSTING TIPS To keep ceiling fans' blades from collecting dust, use furniture polish on them and polish with a soft clean cloth.

1 - Combine all ingredients in a large plastic bag, seal and shake until well coated. 2 - Empty bag into a 13x9 dish, cover and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3 - Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.
5-Ingredient Smothered Chicken Bake 3 slices bacon, chopped 1 cup diced red bell pepper 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper 1/4 cup basil pesto 1 jar (15 oz) pasta sauce
Heat oven to 350°. In 10-inch nonstick skillet, cook bacon over medium-high heat 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until crisp. Remove bacon with slotted spoon to paper towel-lined plate, leaving drippings in skillet. In same skillet, cook bell pepper in bacon drippings over medium-high heat 1 to 2 minutes or until crisp-tender. Remove from skillet with slotted spoon to medium bowl. Sprinkle chicken breasts with pepper. In same skillet, cook chicken breasts in bacon drippings over medium-high heat 2 to 4 minutes, turning once, until brown. Place chicken breasts in ungreased 11 x 7-inch (2-quart) baking dish. In medium bowl, stir bell pepper, pesto and Alfredo sauce until well blended. Pour over chicken. Cover with foil. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until mixture is bubbly and juice of chicken is clear when center of thickest part is cut (at least 165°). Sprinkle with chopped bacon.
Spinach-Cheese Balls 1 box (9 oz) frozen spinach, thawed, drained 1 cup Original Bisquick mix 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
1 egg 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon garlic salt 1 cup tomato pasta sauce, if desired
Heat oven to 400°. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. In large bowl, mix all ingredients, except pasta sauce. Shape mixture into 1-inch balls; place on cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from pan. Serve with pasta sauce.

1. Scan The Groceries When You Get Home Did you know that the Nielsen company will pay you to scan your groceries each week? Crazy, right? Once you sign up to become a Nielsen Consumer Panel family, the company will send you a free scanner or you can use your smartphone. Every time you go shopping, you simply scan the barcodes on the back of each product and send your data off to NCP. Pretty easy, huh? As an active participant, you earn gift points which you can redeem for different types of merchandise. You can choose electronics, jewelry, household items, and even toys for the kids. The longer you stay on the panel, the more opportunity you have to earn points towards prizes. You also receive entries for the panel’s many sweepstakes. Prizes include money, vacations, and brand new vehicles. This is a great way to make your consumer voice count and be rewarded handsomely for recording your purchases. You’re already going to the grocery store anyway, right? 2. Compare Prices using Retale Yep, Retale. Not retail. We all know the best way to save is by shopping around. But who has time for that? Just click the coupons you want and Amazon will automatically deduct them from your bill before you checkout. 4. Get 2% Back on All of Your Grocery Store Purchases If you’re not using a rewards card for your grocery purchases, you’re really just leaving free money on the table. One of my favorite reward cards is the Barclaycard® Rewards MasterCard® – Average Credit. They give you a whopping 2 points for every dollar worth of groceries, gas and utilities you put on the card each month! Plus, they give you 1 point for every other dollar you spend. And there’s no annual fee with this card, meaning if you paying off it in full each month, it really will cost you nothing to have this card. And the points can be converted to cash (1000 points = $10) Consider this – the average family spends $1024.70/month on groceries, $368/month on gasoline and $163/month on utilities. Tell the Packaged Food Companies What You Think of Them Did you know that the packaged food companies will pay you for your thoughts? Bloomquist collects $15,000.00 by: John Griffin The Tennessee tip off classic opened the racing season at Smoky Mountain Speedway in a big way. On Thursday night the 10th it was 3 hours of practice. On Friday, night the 11th it was super late models qualifying with racing in the sportsman feature. After qualifying it was Scott Bloomquist setting fast time with a lap of 14. 901 seconds. Randy weaver was 2nd fastest. In the sportsman feature on Friday night it was Michael Courtney taking the checkered with Jed Emert 2nd, David Clark 3rd, Bradley Lewelling 4th, and Terry Poore 5th. Patrick Duggan out of Lenoir City finished 11th. His sponsors are Waldrops transmissions and Danny Dishman of D&D Automotive. On Saturday, night the 12th the street stocks had their feature. It was Robbie Comer taking the checkered with Colby Taylor 2nd, and Wesley Tester 3rd. In the 75 lap super late model feature the race had a record crowd for a dirt track race with a record purse. Cars came from Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida among other states to try to win. At the start of the race it was Randy Weaver of Crossville taking the lead and leading for the first 37 laps until slower traffic played into the race which played into the second place runner who was Scott Bloomquist. Scott then took the lead on lap 38 and after a caution Scott went on to open up a half track lead to collect the checkered at the end of the race. He won $15,000. for 1st with Randy Weaver in 2nd, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tn. in 3rd, Darrell Lanigan 4th, Dale Mcdowell 5th, and Jimmy Wens of Newport, Tn. In 6th. The next race is scheduled for April 2nd with the ultimate super late models paying $5,000.

Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon were driving around a small country town when Kyle accidentally hit and killed a goat. Well, Jeff made him go up to the farm house and apologize. They drove up to the farm, Kyle got out and knocked on the front door and was let in. He was in there for what seemed like hours. When Kyle came out, Jeff was confused about why he had been in there so long. "Well, first the farmer shook my hand, then he offered me a beer, then his wife brought me some cookies, and his daughter showered me with kisses." explained the man in black. "What did you tell the farmer?" Gordon asked. Kyle Busch replied, "I told him I was driving around with Jeff Gordon and I'd just killed the old goat."

Homemade Remedies for whitening teeth
We all want white sparkling teeth, just like most movie stars, but lets face it; who has the money to buy those expensive systems advertised on TV? and worse yet; who can afford visiting the dentist for one of those laser session that can cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars? Home remedies for whitening teeth are a great alternative for fast, safe and inexpensive teeth whitening. Make a paste by mixing 2 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Place the mixture in a small bowl. The thickness of the paste should be consistent as the typical thickness of toothpaste. For a better taste, add a bit of mint or just a scoop of toothpaste can be combined with the home-made paste for whitening teeth. Now, how is this home-made teeth whitening remedy used? Apply with a toothbrush and leave the mixture on your teeth for at least a couple of minutes. You should avoid swallowing the paste. If this happens, just drink lots of water. Use only once or twice a week.
COFFEE FILTERS USES Use coffee filters for a really large muffin cup. Strain foods through a coffee filter. Use coffee filters to clean small areas instead of paper towels. Clean or polish your shoes with coffee filters. Use to absorb condensation when you are drinking a cold drink. Make your own herbal bathbags by filling the coffee filter with your favorite herbs and stapling or taping it closed. Drop into a bathtub full of warm water and relax in the tub for about 15 minutes. Lavender is especially nice to use to relax.

Remember the Old TV cigarette commercials?
Here are a few examples of how smokes were sold using television personalities and cartoon characters. I Love Lucy (1951-1957) was sponsored by a cigarette maker for a while, Phillip Morris, who promised their customers, "Smoke for pleasure today. No cigarette hangover tomorrow!" That sponsorship meant added scenes of Lucy and Desi smoking in the program's intro and the "Call for Phillip Moooriiiiuuss" kid in commercial transitions. In this advertisement, Desi asks for a cigarette and Lucy happily fetches the Phillip Morris - "You see how easy it is to keep your man happy?" she confides. You also get to see what the closing to the show really looked like, the heart image we're used to seeing on reruns was created in the late-fifties for the syndication package. One of TV's first stars was the Old Gold dancing cigarette pack of the early 1950s, a truly bizarre advertising concoction - an oversized cigarette pack with lovely legs that danced aimlessly around in front of a curtain while the announcer promised a taste, "made by tobacco men, not medicine men." Because if you're going to ingest something into your lungs, better it was sanctioned by a North Carolina dirt scratcher than some high falutin' doctor, right? Jeanne Snow tells us about being a dancing cigarette pack: "My dancing career is so long behind me but the Old Gold commercial keeps coming up in current TV. "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should." That slogan, set to music, was one of the first hummable TV commercials, debuting in the mid-fifties and running all throughout the sixties. Grammar teachers and language purists cried foul so Winston answered with a new slogan - "What do you want, good grammar or good taste?" Big movie stars were happy to endorse smokes on TV as well, and the number one celebrity of the era was the Duke. John Wayne appeared for Camel in 1952, speaking highly of the product: "Mild and good tasting pack after pack. And I know, I've been smokin' em for twenty years." Coincidentally (or not), John Wayne died of lung cancer twenty-seven years after that spot aired; some of the last commercials he filmed were to ask people to stop smoking. Remember when the government made a big stink about Joe Camel in the nineties? They were outraged that more kids recognized Camel's cartoon carton-pusher than could ID Mickey Mouse. Camels were flying off the shelves and (presumably) into the tiny fingers of young children. This was nothing new, cartoon characters had been selling cigarettes for decades, particularly on television. If I told you the original network run of The Flintstones (1960-1966) was sponsored by a cigarette maker and that you could watch the main characters smoking Winstons at the end of the show, you probably wouldn't believe me. This animated series was a prime-time show, considered adult fare in 1960, so I guess nobody thought any better of it. With a large audience of youngsters tuning in at 8:30pm, was this proof that the tobacco companies were targeting younger potential smokers decades before Joe Camel? The Flintstones could also be seen selling beer during commercial breaks, for what that's worth. By the time Pebbles was born in 1963, the Flintstones were no longer pitching Winstons... they were selling Motorolas and Welch's grape juice. No way would Winstons have sponsored a cartoon sitcom with a baby character. Especially since it was in 1964 that the U.S. Surgeon General declared smoking was harmful to one's health. Of course, Fred and Wilma weren't the only cartoon characters making cigarettes appear cute and cuddly in the early-sixties - there were original tobacco company concoctions. The Chesterfield King and his lovable friends were animated animals that hawked Chesterfield King cigarettes in a stylish set of commercials. The main voices for this spot (and the next example) came from Daws Butler, the guy who gave life to many of the most memorable kidvid characters of all time (like Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Snagglepuss, Mutley, Quick Draw McGraw and dozens more). In fact, some of the characterizations he used for these cigarette spots were identical to voices he used for those Hanna-Barbera children's favorites. Then again, how many voices can a guy have? In another Daws Butler spot, average (cartoon) guys Harry and Juggernaut Jones sold Marlboros from the sports booth. "You get a lot to like in a Marlboro - filter, flavor, pack or box" was the catchy musical jingle everyone was humming. Salem in 1961 promised that, "you smoke refreshed" - you have to admire a product that offers "a breath of springtime freshness" in every puff. We're talking about a cigarette, right? Manufacturers have always looked for new ways to modify their products and create new brands. A brilliant example would be Benson and Hedges 100s in 1967. This was one of the most celebrated and effective ad campaigns of all time. Benson and Hedges actually built a brand name (and consumer demand) by making fun of their product, illustrating the distinct disadvantages of smoking a longer cigarette. It's funny in retrospect to see that lighting up was once considered acceptable behavior at the office, in elevators and other crowded public places. This was before smokers lost their God-given constitutional right to light up any place they liked and became just another oppressed minority crying out for equality. The last cigarette TV commercial (for Virginia Slims) was broadcast on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show January 1, 1971. It was expected to be devastating for the networks when tobacco ads were banned - but they did all right without them, in spite of immediately losing $220 million dollars a year in revenues.

A Sixth Letter to America Many things that are going on in America today shows what happens when a nation denies God’s Word and then follows Man’s ideas of what is right. The nation becomes morally corrupt. In the Holy Bible, the Word Of God, (Psalm 14:1), it says, “The Fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” One of the latest examples of a corrupt America is evident when you see what happened in the case where concerned American Christians video-taped those involved in the sale of human baby body parts. One of the investigators was indicted and threatened with a 20 year imprisonment. Meanwhile those who were doing “abominable works” weren’t touched. Apparently, the ungodly law, passed and re-approved, by this nations’ top court, is so revered, that there is no oversight whatsoever on those practicing this terrible inhumane injustice. So revered that law enforcement even overlooked the fact that some of those body parts were taken from babies delivered alive and then butchered for those body parts. Yes America, we are not only committing a crime against God, we are committing a heinous crime against humanity. And yes, senators and congressmen/women, you could have stopped it in 1973, and even now, if you have the guts to stand on God’s Word. And His Word is “Thou shalt not kill,” and he is talking about the innocent, not the murderers. So ask the present sitting Supreme Court justices to reverse or annul Roe v. Wade and to vote on it within three months. Those judges who vote to continue the murdering of unborn babies are disobeying god’s law, and therefore, not “holding their offices in good behavior.” Meanwhile, start impeaching those justices who completely disregarded God’s laws by approving same-sex marriage. The Truth About Social Security Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts. Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION message was removed. Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in red. 1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary [No longer voluntary], 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed] 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible], 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent] 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed]. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following: Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US AND MY FAVORITE: Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

Do April Showers Bring May Flowers?
Is there a real Kermit?
The old adage would have us believe that all this rain bodes well for next month's blossoms. But do April showers really bring May flowers? No more so than showers in May or September. Exactly which rainy period has the biggest effect on growth depends on whether you're looking at perennials or annuals. Perennials, which are plants whose roots stay alive even after the part aboveground dies, usually pop up as the first proud trumpeters of spring. If you're in Maine or England, that's likely to be in May; farther south, it makes more sense to call them late-March and early-April flowers. (Some perennials like the Cyclamen coum have the audacity to show up and thrive as early as January.) Regardless of when the perennials bloom, the rainfall of the previous month isn't that relevant. Plants such as tulips and daffodils, two common perennials, sprout from bulbs that have been in the ground since at least the previous autumn, which is when their buds were forming and roots were growing. So if there had been a severe drought in September, the tulips and daffodils may suffer months later. Once the foliage starts peeking through the soil in early spring, rainfall again becomes important. If there's a drought, the perennials won't grow as high, and they wither faster. But in most years, there's enough moisture in the soil from the winter's snow to sustain the spring flowers. Whatever effect April's showers do have on May flowers tends to be negative. Too much rain while the plants are blossoming makes them more susceptible to diseases like Botrytis blight, which causes buds to shrivel before they open. For annuals, which are the flowers that must be replanted every year, lifespan and growth are influenced by the rainfall in the months immediately after they're planted, not the month before. Summer annuals like petunias, marigolds, geraniums, tomatoes, and cucumbers go into the ground after the frost-free date, which varies by region but hovers around late April. Once planted, they must receive enough water during the next few months to stay healthy. (The exact amount depends on heat and wind, but a good rule of thumb is that if you stick a finger into the soil and feel some moisture, you're good.) Too much heavy rain can beat them down or, if the soil isn't draining properly, drown their roots and kill them. But April showers would have no effect on annuals planted in May. The one place where April showers would truly bring May flowers is the desert. In arid regions like the Mojave, plants sit under the sand, sometimes for years, just waiting for enough water to send up shoots and leaves. A few weeks—or sometimes even days—after a heavy rainfall, the desert will explode with color.
Recently, a scientist discovered a type of frog that looks a lot like Kermit. Kermit the Frog is a muppet—a well-known puppet frog who has bulgy eyes and is a special shade of green. The frog found in Costa Rica looks a lot like that. It has big google-eyes with black pupils that sit on the top of its head, and it is a uniform shade of bright lime green, similar to Kermit. Just about the only thing it’s missing is Kermit’s signature pointy collar. (And Kermit’s ability to speak, of course.) The recently discovered frog is a type of glassfrog. It has been named Hyalinobatrachium dianae, after the mother of one of the scientists; her middle name is Diane. The announcement of the new frog was made by the Costa Rican Amphibian Research Center. Glassfrogs get their name from the way their tummy looks. Many of them—including this new frog—have translucent skin on their stomach, meaning that you can see through it. You can see some of the frog’s organs including the heart and liver. Scientists think that the glassfrog developed a translucent tummy so that it would be hard to spot as it sits on a branch or leaf. That means that other animals that want to eat it would have a more difficult time finding it.

If you compare the earth to an egg, the shell on an egg is like the crust on the earth. The crust is made up of rocks and minerals. Much of the crust is covered by water, sand, soil and ice. If you dig deep enough, you will always hit rocks.

All you need to clean every drain in your house is baking soda and white vinegar. Run hot water down the drain and pour in some baking soda, then some vinegar. It will bubble up. When it has stopped bubbling up, rinse with some more hot water. You won't have any clogs if you do this once every week. Use 1/2 cup each.

Watch your pet If you've ever seen your pet stand up to the wall with their head against it, this could be a warning sign to see a vet. While you probably get some enjoyment out of the silliness of your pet, there are a couple things your pets may be doing because something is innately wrong. This one specific idiosyncrasy that pets sometimes do should not be ignored at any cost. While it may look like this puppy is in timeout with his noggin against the wall for peeing on the carpet, it can be something that needs immediate medical attention. If you ever stumble upon your pet doing this, without reason of course, it could be a sign that there is nerve damage in their brain and the pressure in their head is causing them grave headaches. A couple of reasons behind the nerve damage could simply be an infection that needs fighting, or there could be a tumor. This is something you do not want to take lightly. Often we are able to communicate to our pets in tiny ways, but there really isn't a sure way to know if your pet is sick or hurt. This may be one particular instance in which you can tell your pet is hurting or ill. They are trying to alleviate the pain by pressing up their head against the wall and make the room stop spinning, if that helps put it into relative terms to human pain. The severity of the issue depends on how often you see your pet do this along with the longevity of the action. For instance, if you see your pet in the corner doing this for minutes on end, this is something that cannot be ignored. If you see them going back to the position with great frequency, this could also be a warning sign. Be sure to take care of this issue and see a veterinarian as soon as possible.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average U.S. household spends $500 annually caring for their pets, though it wouldn't be hard to find some owners who exceed that in a single month. Things like pet insurance or an emergency fund can help soften the blow of an unpredictable visit to an animal hospital, but it's not unheard of for people to go into debt over pet care. Careful budgeting can help you avoid letting your pets make a mess of your finances.
Puppy Love Has a Price Tag Any type of pet ownership has its costs: visits to the vet (the planned and the oh-so-expensive unplanned), food, grooming, toys and boarding costs all add up. Even if you're a pretty frugal person, you still probably need to dedicate a portion of your budget to caring for your non-human family members. But depending on what sort of pet you want, your biggest expense could actually be what it takes to acquire the animal. Pet costs are a huge aspect of Americans' finances. About 65% of U.S. households have a pet, according to the American Pet Products Association, and in 2015, it was estimated that those owners would spend more than $60 billion on collective pet expenses.

Choosing the Best Cat Carrier Carriers and crates are designed to keep your cat safe and secure. you have a number of choices available, depending on your particular needs. When choosing the right size crate or carrier, keep in mind that it should be no more than one and a half times the size of the cat. There should be enough room for the cat to lie down flat, and to stand up straight and turn around. In general there are three different types of cat carriers: hard carriers, soft carriers, cardboard carriers and hard carriers these are generally made of a high-density polypropylene. These durable crates are the only type of crate accepted on airlines. They make an excellent indoor home for your pet because the pet feels safe and secure inside it. Padded, washable foam pads are available to make the crate a little more comfortable. Soft carriers are made of a softer, more flexible material and are used for transporting small pets. They are equipped with handles and have "windows" for the pet to see out. Some airlines allow pets to travel in the main cabin under your seat, and these soft carriers are ideal for this. Make sure you allow adequate space for the cat to stand up, move around, and be comfortable. Cardboard carriers are typically how cats are transported from one place to another, but they may be used for transporting cats a short distance; for example, to the veterinarian. They are lightweight, economical, and come with small holes that allow the cat to see out while giving him a secure feeling.
