Truckee was first established in 1863; incorporated in 1993. Truckee, with a population of 16,180, is the largest of three incorporated cities in Nevada County (Grass Valley and Nevada City are the other two). Education

The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) serves approximately 3,720 kindergarten through 12th grade students residing in eastern portions of Placer, Nevada and El Dorado counties.

School configurations represent elementary school (kindergarten– 5th), middle school (6th–8th) and high school (9th–12th).

Eleven schools are located in the district’s 720-square-mile attendance area, primarily in the Truckee/ Glenshire, Tahoe City and Kings Beach communities.
