In September, come commemorate Labor Day on September 5th at our annual Carnival Celebration. Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Friday, September 16th—it’s the Club’s second installment of the Music on the Green series with Joe Mama!

Fall Garage Sale Saturday, October 8 | 7 am–noon It’s time again for the semi-annual Somersett garage sale, so clear out your summer stuff and make way for fall! Somersett Owners Association allows two community garage sales per year, and if you would like to have your Somersett home listed on the map, please email events@mysomersett.com with your name, street address, Somersett neighborhood, phone number and email. No email access? No problem. Just stop by the Club or call 7874500 with this information. To be included on the map, all submissions must be received by Saturday, October 1. Maps will be available for

pick up starting Friday, October 7 from 12-8 pm and Saturday starting promptly at 7 am at The Club at Town Center. Participants will be allowed to put up signs during the sale only to direct people to their street/house.

Touch-A-Truck & Fall Festival Saturday, October 22 | 11 am–3 pm It’s time again for tricks and treats at our popular neighborhood event, which is also the annual kick-off to the Club’s Holiday Food Drive benefiting the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Get here early—the first 125 kids to arrive in costume get a cool goodie bag!

Please bring non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, dry cereal, rice or pasta.

There is always a need for cereal and canned items that serve as a meal, such as soups and stews. Donations for the Food Bank will be accepted at the concierge desk.

Meet Stuart Smith, Director of Golf at Somersett Country Club

A

t the age of three, Stuart began hitting balls in the backyard and when his family moved to Rocklin, California into a house located on the 6th hole of Whitney Ranch Golf Club Stuart’s love of the game exploded. He spent countless hours on the golf course. At UCLA he played alongside teammates Corey Pavin, Steve Pate, Tom Pernice Jr., Duffy Waldorf and Jay Delsing. After graduating in 1984 he pursued the PGA Tour for nine years. Stuart also played the South African Tour (1985–92) where he met his wife Cecile.

Returning to the states he assisted in opening Granite Bay Golf Club where he spent thirteen years working his way up the ranks to Director of Golf. In 2007, he moved to Reno with his family (wife, Cecile and three children: Lizelle, Jordan and Parker) to be a part of Somersett Country Club.

His devotion to the sport shows in all of his efforts, specifically in the kid’s programs. In 2010, he was named by his peers as the Northern California PGA Junior Golf Leader of the Year.

Stuart’s 12th place finish in the National Club Professional Championship held at Hershey Country Club, Hershey, PA earned him entry into the 93rd PGA Championship held at Atlanta Athletic Club, Johns Creek, GA. The week prior to his departure to Atlanta Stuart captured the Northern California PGA Stroke Play Championship held at Lake Merced Golf & Country Club, Daly City, CA with rounds of 73-66=139 and a two shot victory.

Kids’ Corner Hours & Programming Monday to Thursday:

5:30-7:30 pm Friday: 8:30 am–12:30 pm Saturday: 8 am–12 pm Closed Sunday Kids’ Corner Policy Reminders Kids’ Corner will only accept bathroom-independent children 3 to 6 years of age who are bathroom independent. • For the morning time slots, parents may sign their child up for either 8:30–10:30 am or 10:30 am– 12:30 pm Monday through Friday and either 8–10 am or 10 am–12 pm on Saturday. Evening slot is from 5:30–7:30 pm Monday through Thursday. • The room operates on a 6 to 1 ratio, with a maximum of 12 kids allowed at any given time. To accommodate this ratio, the Club requires reservations to be made at least 24 hours in advance to ensure staffing. Each Saturday at 12 pm, reservations will be opened for the upcoming week. • All children must be dropped off in Kids’ Corner within 15 minutes of their reservation time. If the parent has not checked their child in within the 15-minute window, the reservation becomes void and the spot will be opened to a child on the wait list. • No show reservations will result in a $10 fee per child due to the Club. Cancellations must be received by 8 am on the day of the reservation.

Alcohol Policy

Remember to present your membership card at the concierge desk each time you use the facility. Even though the staff may know you by sight, we need to scan your card into the system for tracking, accounting and planning purposes. If you have not had your membership card made, please bring your Nevada driver’s license for identification and we will print your card on the spot. If you’ve lost your card, we will gladly make a replacement card for $10.

The Club will charge a late pick-up fee for any child not picked up within 15 minutes of a program’s end time. Following the 15-minute grace period, a $5 fee will be charged for every 10 minutes your child remains with us.

Alcoholic beverages may be purchased from the Club. Members and their guests are not allowed to bring their own alcoholic beverages on the premises, including the pool area and Canyon Nine. Outside alcohol may only be brought into the facility during an approved private event. No alcoholic beverages will be sold or served to any person not permitted to purchase the same under the laws of the State of Nevada or sold for off-premises consumption. The Club reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to refuse service to any member or guest who appears to be intoxicated.

RSVP Policy Please remember to RSVP for programs by the deadline listed so we can ensure that enough supplies and staff are available. All event fees are due at time of reservation. Cancellations must be made 48 hours before an event to receive a refund. No refunds will be given for no-shows. Unless noted, all events are for residents only. If residents choose to bring a guest to an event, event and guest fees apply.

Assessments are due on the first of each month and are past due if not paid by the last business day of the month. A late fee of $25 will be posted to accounts not paid by the last business day of the month.

Accounts 60 days past due will lose clubhouse and/or Canyon Nine privileges. Accounts 90 days past due will be sent to collections.

Dogs on Restraints No animal shall be permitted out of a structure on a lot unless in a fenced enclosure, nor permitted off a lot unless such animal is under the control of a person by means of a leash or other reasonable physical restraint—reference CC&Rs Art. Melissa’s Memo...2012 Budget The Board of Directors and Transition Committee have been busy reviewing and discussing the Association’s financials as they prepare the 2012 budget. Our goal is to maintain assessments at the current amount and continue savings found in operations.

With continued savings, management staff was tasked with finding ways that improve and enhance the community to continue providing an exceptional lifestyle for Somersett residents. The Association elected to send several contracts out to bid for the upcoming year.

For the general common area, these include snow removal on the sidewalks, the year-end audit and landscape maintenance. For the Club at Town Center, these include the register/point of sale system, snow removal and cleaning. For Canyon Nine, golf course maintenance, and for private streets/gates, snow removal. The board will open all bids for these projects at 9 am on Friday, October 7, at The Club at Town Center.

We encourage residents to attend the Preliminary Budget Presentation, Tuesday, October 4 at 3 pm in the Loft, which will also include presentations from management staff on department specific business plans.

Fall Garage Sale Saturday, October 8 | 7 am–noon It’s time again for the semi-annual Somersett garage sale, so clear out your summer stuff and make way for fall! Somersett Owners Association allows two community garage sales per year, and if you would like to have your Somersett home listed on the map, please email events@mysomersett.com with your name, street address, Somersett neighborhood, phone number and email. No email access? No problem. Just stop by the Club or call 787-4500 with this information. To be included on the map, all submissions must be received by Saturday, October 1. Maps will be available for pick up starting Friday, October 7 from 12-8 pm and Saturday starting promptly at 7 am at The Club at Town Center. Participants will be allowed to put up signs during the sale only to direct people to their street/house.

Fall Reminders Schools In Session: With school back in session, remember to follow the posted speed limits throughout the community and to take extra care around bus stop locations.

Roundabout Driving Reminder: As you approach, slow down and yield to pedestrians and bicyclists. For multi-lane roundabouts, choose the appropriate lane. Yield to driver’s left. Those in the roundabout have the right-of-way. Travel counter-clockwise through the roundabout. Use your turn signal when exiting.

Holiday Decorations: As we head into the holiday season, remember that holiday decorations may be installed up to 10 days before a holiday and must be taken down within 10 days after the holiday. For the December holidays, decorations may be installed at Thanksgiving and removed by January 31.

Street Parking: Please remember to be a good neighbor by not parking your car in the street for extended periods of time. If you see a car regularly and continuously parked on a public street, contact Reno Direct at 334-4636. For cars parked on private streets, contact the customer care center to report the non-compliance. No parking on private streets is permitted from 2 to 6 am unless a parking pass is granted for no more than 72 hours.

Somersett Parkway Sidewalk CLOSED Please remember that the sidewalk along Somersett Parkway from the Entry Cottage to the first roundabout is closed. For your safety, refrain from walking, running, biking, etc. on the path.

Sean’s Top Five 1. Landscaping: Please take proper care of your landscaping, including weeding, watering and trimming. It may also be necessary for you to fertilize or aerate your lawn. Homeowners are also responsible for the mow strip in front of their property; please ensure that the mow strip is trimmed, that the trees remain healthy and living, and that any bushes or juniper are trimmed.

2. Trailers: Trailers may be used for loading and unloading only and may not be stored where visible. Please follow guidelines to avoid violations regarding trailers on your property.

3. Trim and Fascia: Please take notice of whether your trim, shutters or fascia are in need of repair. This is an ideal time for re-painting your home as the temperature does not experience drastic changes. If you would like to change the color of your home, please contact me in regard to submitting to the AGC for approval.

4. Assessment Due Date: Please be aware that assessments are past due after 5 pm on the last business day of each month. Please make adjustments to your auto-pay accounts to ensure proper time for mailing, so that your payment may be received on time and late fees can be avoided.

5. Dirt Bikes & Recreational Vehicles: Please do not use common area or vacant lots for off-road enjoyment, as these lots are private property. Any damage done can be charged to those responsible. Additionally, these vehicles may not be driven on Somersett Parkway.

We are notifying all homeowners about meetings of the Executive Board of Directors as per NRS 116.31083.2, “not less than 10 days before the date of a meeting of the Executive Board.” Any changes to the location, time or dates will be published in the newsletters and online at mysomersett.com.

Following are the scheduled meetings for 2011: SOA Board Meetings Meetings will be held at the Loft located in Town Square at 7665 Town Square Way, Suite 201. Bid Opening Meeting October 7 at 9 am in TCTC October 11 at 5:30 pm; November 15 following the annual meeting.

Annual Membership Meeting and Budget Ratification Meeting will be held at the Loft located in Town Square at 7665 Town Square Way, Suite 201. November 15 at 5:30 pm Monthly Finance Meetings Meetings will be held at the Loft located in Town Square at 7665 Town Square Way, Suite 201. Finance meetings are open to all Somersett residents. Meetings will start at 1 pm on the following dates: September 27, October 25, December 7 and December 27 2012 Budget Workshops Meetings will be held at the Loft located in Town Square at 7665 Town Square Way, Suite 201. Budget meetings are open to all Somersett residents. Meetings will start at 3 pm on the following dates: September 27 and October 4 • The Architectural Guidelines Committee will meet the first and third Thursday of each month at 10 am at The Club at Town Center.

• The Community Standards Committee will meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 am at The Club at Town Center. The November meeting will be held on November 29.

• The Board will hold their Executive Session on the fourth Tuesday of each month immediately following the CSC meeting at The Club at Town Center. The Board will not meet in November, but immediately following the Finance Meeting on December 7.

W

hen your moving boxes are empty and your furniture has found its perfect spot in your new home, you will begin to think about life in your new community. You will no doubt realize that you have many questions, and perhaps you are not quite sure where to find answers. The Sierra Canyon Association “New Resident Orientation” was designed for just that purpose. At this orientation, I will offer information on a range of subjects, including a discussion of our Governing Documents, Rules and Regulations, CC&Rs and Design Guidelines. I will also provide information regarding our Board of Directors, Recreation Committee, fitness classes, Sierra Canyon Web site, upcoming trips and activities and the Canyon Nine Golf Course. Sierra Canyon is proud to host over 40 resident groups, and I am confident that each of you will find at least one group about which you would like additional information. I’ll be pleased to help at the orientation.

Our next orientation will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 26, at the Aspen Lodge. Please RSVP to the Aspen Lodge front desk at 624-2900 to reserve your space. Our meeting generally lasts about one hour. I invite you to stop in, meet your neighbors and let me answer any questions you may have about your new community.

ats are territorial and sensitive creatures, so moving to a new home can be a very traumatic event. It’s important to think outside of your moving boxes to make the transition as stress-free as possible.

First on the to-do list is ensuring that your cat is microchipped and your contact info is up to date. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin in the chest area. It’s identification for your pet that lasts a lifetime. Remember, should your pet get lost as a result of your relocation, proper identification is her ticket home. If you cat is not microchipped, now is the time to find a vet and have it done. Your cat should also wear a collar with identification tags. Have a new tag made in advance with your new telephone and address so you can change the tags on moving day.

If your cat is allowed outside, stop letting her outside at least two weeks before moving day. This will prevent her from possibly disappearing before the move. Confine her to one room when there’s heavy foot-traffic coming through the house.

Maps will be available Friday, October 7 from 12 to 8 pm and Saturday starting promptly at 7 am at The Club at Town Center. Participants are permitted to put up signs during the sale only to direct people to their street/house.

Don’t miss all the tricks and treats we will have for this fun filled event.Experience and learn about jobs with TRUCKS. Organizations throughout thecommunity will have their vehicles on site for you to experience first hand! Enjoy hayrides throughout the event as you ride around the square. Plus be spooked in Somersett’s haunted house. There will even be a costume contest with prizes awarded at 2 pm. The first 125 kids in costume will receive a special goodie bag. Remember to bring your trick or treat bags, too! There will be goodies for all, including food and drink specials.
