Begin with no pitch - scratch/noise only - and gradually decrease bow pressure to produce tone again gradually add bow pressure to eventually produce a scratching sound with no pitch

slowly add bow pressure and accelerate the amount of pressure added towards the end to suddenly produce a scratching sound with no pitch.

This was the first piece I wrote after my family and I moved from Philadelphia, PA, USA to Valencia, Spain. At the same time, the Trump administration had just taken office for the second time.

Transitioning to a new culture, country, and way of life, especially with 3 young children, is difficult enough, but to watch helplessly from afar, as your country - your old home - changes abruptly, exchanging goodwill, opportunity, and decency for blatant corruption and cruelty is jarring, heart-wrenching, and difficult to process.

The ever-increasing division among the American people, along with the difficulty in assessing truth in social media and the press, adds to the chaos.
