Program Note
The classic Advent melodies O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, and Gaudete are re-imagined in this suite of arrangements for Brass Quintet. Opening the collection, O Come, O Come Emmanuel features gentle counterpoint and luscious harmonic language. Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern’s lyrical and warm language explores the vocal qualities of the quintet with long, flowing lines. Gaudete’s dialogue between modern fanfare and medieval metric impulses closes the collection with a joyful flourish. This collection was commissioned by the Gaudete Brass Quintet in 2013.
