Thewords of Walt Whitman are timeless. His wayof approaching prosewith regards to social justiceissuesduring hislifetimespeakstruthstothewoesof today. Weave in My Hardy Life isa poem that expresses the need (and desire) to consistently fight for causes that lead to a more equitable society. He asks for strength and courage as he pursues these causes. As with Whitman’s poem, the music “weaves” throughoutwith aconstant repeating melody, as well as counterpoint which symbolizes the ability of music to interweave different voices that form a whole—thesamewaywemustliftourindividualvoicesforthegoodof theorder.
