Program Note
If I (2015, rev. 2021) explores textual fragmentation as the vocalist protagonist attempts to express their thoughts and emotions to an unseen partner. By the end of the piece, the vocalist has journeyed from confusion and sorrow to conviction and empowerment, sorting through enough word combinations to declare a full sentence that asserts their needs and desires.
