Program Note

#Kitty is a collage of social media posts by people about their cats. We love cats. Most cultures love cats. They are funny, maniacal, lazy, and cute. Musically my goal was to show all these emotions quickly like we interact with social media posts.

Perc: "Cats are usually not allowed in the instrument room, and this happened right after I went to bathroom. They don’t like each other and they rarely share a bed. This tells how much they are in love with the marimba bed lol"

VI: Plastic Bag Fascination

Instructions:

Horn: Speak the phrase at a moderate tempo pausing between words at the discretion of the performer

"A plastic bag just floated by on the wind outside and Verstre immediately perked up and tracked it until it disappeared. Now I finally understand who the target audience for American Beauty is!"

With a plastic bag shake the bag vigorously like a tremolo.

Percussion: Follow the Horn narration as closely as you can and match the rhythm. In one had use a mallet picking various pitches from the available instruments, and the other hand use a plastic bag. (these should be in unison rhythm)

1) Horn: waldocat you are such a weird cat.

2) Horn: The tiny bump that was in your armpit for years,

4) Horn: You don’t seem to care or even notice that it’s there, and you’re just being a normal cat.
