Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz present in OTC President of Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), Martin Cheah, and Institutional Director, Luciana Sandri, attended from May 6 to 9 2013, the Ocean Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, United States. During the event, the CEO and President of Sembcorp Marine, Wong Weng Sun, presented a lecture on the theme “Considerations regarding to the demands of the Industry of Oil & Gas ”.

Sembcorp Marine celebrated, during the OTC, 50 years of existence of the group. OTC is the biggest event in the oil and gas industry and offshore development, bringing together representatives from 200 countries.The pre-salt of Brazil was the highlight of OTC being widely reported in the international press. The Sembcorp Marine Group and EJA were the subject of reports of newspapers: Offshore Engineer and OTC Daily Show.

Jurong performs work of the Access Road

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) signed on April 22, 2013, at Palácio Anchieta, in Vitória (ES), the contract with Construtora CR Almeida and EMPA for the building of the south quay and south finger pier. The contract was signed by the President of EJA, Martin Cheah, and business representatives of CR Almeida, Luiz Augusto Pozzobom, and of Empa, Luis Augusto Tavares Moreira da Silva, in the presence of the Governor Renato Casagrande. The south quay will be 250 meters in length and the south finger pier will be 407 meters of length. The period of completion is 20 months from the date of signing of the contract. The south quay will begin operations later this year when the construction of the first drilling rig of the brazilian pre-salt will begin.

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) finalized the temporary access road to the site entrance. To do so, EJA signed a commitment agreement with Transpetro for use of the pipeline easement strip. On March 4, Transpetro released the area for construction of the access road. Sign posts were placed on site. Through our permanent communication channel with the community around the shipyard, EJA staff is conducting meetings with community leaders clarifying the progress, evaluating the impacts and adopting mitigating measures.

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) conducts 2nd Seminar of Suppliers Attended by over 400 people, EJA held on the May 10 the 2nd Seminar of suppliers of Aracruz. The event was a partnership with the Department of Development of the State of Espírito Santo, Municipality of Aracruz, Amear, CDL of Aracruz, Findes, Sebrae and Supplier Development Program of Espírito Santo (PDF). The event aimed to provide business opportunities to companies in the surrounding areas of the Shipyard. At this event, the representatives of Consortium CR Almeida EMPA, contracted by EJA to construct the quay and south finger pier, were presented to local suppliers. During the seminar, a networking session was held to exchange business information and contacts.

EJA Commissioning Manager, Rubens Galvão, presented needs for products and services of the Shipyard and the seven Rigs contracted by Sete Brasil on the 1st Technological Platec (Technological Platforms) Workshop of Offshore Drilling Rigs.

The event took place in the auditorium at Sindifer, in Vitória, on February 27, 2013.

Also in attendance were Procurement Manager, Jason Peh, Procurement Assistant, Gustavo Lopes, in addition to Sustainability Coordinator, Aparecida Demoner. The workshop was sponsored by ONIP (National Petroleum Industry Organization) in order to encourage innovation and competitiveness of Local Content in the procurement of Rigs for exploration of the pre-salt. Sete Brasil presented a comprehensive report of the contracts of the 28 Rigs, an investments of R$ 82 billion in the exploration of the pre-salt, the evolution of the shipyards’s construction and contracted rigs.

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), HSE manager Lani Tardin, presented a lecture on “Good practice and safety indicators, environment and health to the suppliers” in the II Seminar of Management of Health and Safety at Work of the MetalMechanic Industry, held on Luciana Sandri and Lani Tardin at the seminar April 23, at the Sheraton Hotel, in Vitória. The event was sponsored by Sindifer with the participation, in addition to Jurong, of representatives of Petrobras, Vale, Arcelor Mittal, Samarco, Fibria, Flexibras and Tereme, the Findes institutions, Sesi, Sebrae, and of the Attorney General Labour. The metalworking sector in Espírito Santo has industrial base of 1300 companies and generates 25000 jobs, of which 70% are micro and small companies.

SPU/ES signs contract for construction of EJA The Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MP), through the Superintendency of the Patrimony of the Union in Espírito Santo (SPU/ES), signed, on March 19, a concession contract with Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz Ltda, subsidiar y of Sembcorp Marine Group of Singapore. The contract was signed by the superintendent of SPU/ES, Magno Pires da Silva, and the managing partner of Jurong in Brazil Siew Kam Onn. The objective is to allow EJA to have the onerous use of the waters around the Shipyard in the municipality of Aracruz.

Presentation of EJA to the Public Ministry of Labor HR Manager, Lucila Lopes, and the HSE Manager, Lani Tardin, presented the Shipyard design of EJA to the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) on the May 10.The meeting was part of the administrative procedure of the National Coordination of Port Work and Waterway (Conatpa) to approach and align information between the two departments. It is a national action among all the country's shipyards.

Graduation from vocational courses to community Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) promoted, on the March 13 and 14, handover of certificates of completion of professional training courses in partnership with Premier Technical School Cedtec and Educational Center of Aracruz, maintained by the Foundation São João Batista.

In 2012, EJA enrolled 713 people from the community in the program of professional education. Of this total, 392 places were offered in courses aimed at training the local workforce to act in the operation phase of the shipyard.

During the program training courses were offered for electrotechnical, welder, operator of industrial automation, industrial maintenance mechanic, maintenance electrician, heavy machine operator, plumber, industrial painter, master builder, hydraulic installer and coppersmith, among others.

Members of Advisory Councils of the Conservation Units Environmental Protection Area (APA) Costa das Algas and Wildlife Refuge (RVS) of Santa Cruz attended a Communication Workshop. The initiative was of the Institute Chico Mendes of Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and of Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA). With the main point “How to communicate”, the event aimed to develop with the counselors the themes of communication for protected areas, as well as identifying their perception to begin work on the creation of the visual identity of the Units.

Environmental education campaign at the beaches The Institute Chico Mendes for Biodiversity Conservation, in partnership with Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), promoted environmental education campaigns at the beaches of Conservation Units “Environmental Protection Area of Costa das Algas and Wildlife Refuge Santa Cruz”. The campaign was developed along the coast of fifteen beaches in the municipalities of Serra, Fundão and Aracruz. Educational brochures were distributed at the beaches of Barra do Sahy, Praia Grande, Santa Cruz, Coqueiral, Costa Bela, Praia Formosa, Costa Azul, Rio Preto, Praia do Califa, Enseada das Garças, Putiri, Mar Azul, Praia dos Padres, Sauê and Gramuté. The aim was to promote the protected areas and warn people about the responsibilities we should have with our coastline.

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz promotes vocational courses

Seven projects of the region surrounding Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) in social, educational, cultural, environmental and sports areas were selected to receive resources for their implementation within one year. These projects will contribute to the social, environmental and economic sustainability of the communities in the municipalities of Aracruz and Fundão. The approved projects are:

In April, EJA promoted, the selection process for qualification courses. 400 vacancies were offered in courses for the training of local workforce during the operation phase of the shipyard: welding process in electric arc, mechanical fitter, coppersmith, industrial painter, scaffolding assembler, plumber and pipe installer, operator of disc saw and grinding in metal finishing and assembler of mechanical structures.
