Back in 2001, when I started selling books as a hobby, I wasn’t planning for it to become a full time business. One book led to another. I loved finding old books and telling their stories. Rare books and first editions led to leather bound collections, art book libraries, and just about every type of book under the sun. A few years later, I worked on two custom library projects where the books I provided were important design elements in each home. I came up with a process for how to choose the books for each home. It wasn’t complicated . . . I listened. I listened to the designers and their clients, and curated book collections fulfilling all of their requests for specific subjects, book sizes, binding styles, and color palettes. If a book exists we will find it; if it doesn’t exist we will create it. While we keep some inventory, we approach every project on the basis of providing the books you want, as opposed to selling you the books we have. We’re grateful to the trade customers we have been fortunate to work with over the years. Together we have raised the quality of books and their uses in interior design. On many occasions, we have pushed the envelope with you, achieving something new and extraordinary. We look forward to future collaborations and jointly bringing more creativity and depth to the world of books and design.

Juniper Books is dedicated to elevating the printed book by enhancing its design quality and aesthetic, deepening the meaning of books in our lives, and facilitating the connection between the stories books tell us and the stories they tell about us. At Juniper Books, we believe books transcend. They live beyond the confines of the page. Their stories and meaning seep through the borders of their binding onto the covers, into our homes, and throughout our lives. We pride ourselves in making connections between the content of a book, its exterior design, and its significance to you.

Whether it is a custom book set designed specifically for you, an existing set we’ve created in response to customer requests, or an entire bespoke library, it all begins with the same handful of elements: quality, carefully curated books, creativity, thoughtful design, and impeccable service.

We start with “raw” books—selected from our favorite publishers not only for the stories they tell, but for their quality bindings and overall craftsmanship. They arrive at our warehouse fresh, spines un-cracked, and wait to be handpicked for their new home on your shelves.

Hours of thought go into the content and design of each of our readymade sets, and hours more into curating custom sets and entire libraries. Once we’ve determined the perfect combination of books, we begin the process of transforming them into a piece of art. Often, it’s a design or image that reflects the unique nature of the authors and themes. Sometimes, it’s tailored to the client, incorporating colors and motifs to complement a particular style and space. 10

CREATING THE PRODUCT 12
Feel free to send us your swatches, elevations and photos. We can produce digital renderings to help visualize a finished set or library, and if it’s not quite perfect, we’ll start again. The Juniper Books team will adjust colors, review artwork, and study the scale and character of your space until we get it just right.

CUSTOM ORDERS Here’s what we need to get started:
MEASUREMENTS: How much space is there for books? Elevations and photos are extremely helpful. Knowing the width, height, and depth of the shelves is ideal so we can make sure the books fit perfectly.
SUBJECT MATTER: What subjects and themes should be included in the collection? The more information we have, the more personalized we can make the book selections. We also create purely decorative installations, using blank books or generic books where appropriate.
STYLE: How would you like the books to look on the shelves? We can curate and/or create books in any style from antique to modern, neutral to colorful, subtle to attention grabbing. Feel free to send reference photos, inspiration boards, and any other materials that may give us a sense of your project’s style.
