Neighborhood
Located on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, Fremont has traditionally had a reputation as one of the city’s most bohemian neighborhoods and a thriving center of alternative culture. A local sign notes that visitors are entering the “Center of the Universe,” a welcome reflecting the quirky and fun vibe of the area. One of the neighborhood’s iconic features is a sculpture of a troll crushing a VW Bug under the Aurora Bridge. Other whimsical landmarks include the Fremont Rocket (a Cold War rocket fuselage) and a statue of Vladimir Lenin that once stood in Czechoslovakia. Today, Fremont is also a hip dining destination with acclaimed restaurants specializing in Japanese, Korean, and Mexican cuisine (among many others). Locals enjoy the Sunday market, the area’s burgeoning arts scene, and festivals held throughout the year. What inspired the design and concept of this project?
Seattle has a complex housing situation. Affordability to buyers is one of the biggest issues our city faces, so we developed this project with the goal of providing a solution for buyers to offset the increased cost of housing. By providing an additional, fully appointed apartment on the ground floor, each home has immense flexibility with how it’s lived. The space can be rented out to a tenant, offered as a short-term rental, used as a mother-in-law suite, or even a work-from-home office. We’re excited to learn how future owners will use the space.
What are some unique features of this project that set it apart from others in the area?
This project is one of a kind. Very rarely does a housing option offer an A+ location, coupled with the flexibility of use with the two dwelling units in the same structure. We love the designated top floor master suites with large walk-in showers and access to the roof decks for outdoor living to further take in the views.
How do you envision the project’s location will benefit future owners and residents?
Fremont is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Seattle with so much culture and character. Whether its direct access to the Burke-Gilman Trail or Lake Union, the bustling Farmers Market, or trendy restaurants, the neighborhood has something for everyone. This project puts you right at the doorstep of all the action.
What was the most rewarding part of this project for you?
Providing a unique housing solution that can help future buyers offset the cost of living.
What measures did you put in place to maintain quality control throughout the build?
We’ve been building in Seattle for over a decade and maintain great relationships with some of the most skilled tradesmen in the region. We’re at the project every day working through details with them to maintain the highest quality and best finished product.
