JA Golf Classic Black Rock Country Club June 27, 2022
Junior Achievement USA announced the launch of its updated logo and branding, the first change to the logo since 1986. The update reflects the organization’s evolution from a supplemental youth development program in the 1980s to a fully integrated K-12 education partner today. Junior Achievement (JA) helps students connect what they learn in school to life outside the classroom, especially when it comes to managing money, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship. The brand update is also occurring globally, with JA operations in more than 100 countries worldwide beginning the process this year. Since 1986, the Junior Achievement logo has consisted of a green triangle with three white or gold stairsteps in the triangle. The new logo, which resembles planes flying in formation or a flock of geese, borrows elements from the five previous JA logos. The new logo and branding, which utilizes dark blue, turquoise, yellow, and green color elements, represents how one leader in the community, working in tandem with Junior Achievement, can impact many lives. Ultimately, by working together, we can all rise above. Junior Achievement envisions “a world where young people have the skillset and mindset to build thriving communities.”
A Message from the President & CEO Welcome to the 24th annual JA of Greater Boston Golf Classic. We are excited to bring you back to the beautiful Black Rock Country Club for a great round of golf, excellent company, and to support our bold vision to close the wealth and opportunity gaps for youth in our impact communities (currently Boston, Brockton, Chelsea, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Quincy, Somerville, and Worcester) by creating middle school to career pathways, igniting youth entrepreneurship, and preparing financially savvy youth. A lot has happened since our last outing. Some of it was challenging, especially due to the pandemic. However, I am happy to share that thanks to the unwavering support of our funders and the resilience of our staff, Board and community partners, we are stronger today than ever before. We succeeded at continuing to deliver our transformational entrepreneurship, career readiness, and financial literacy programs all while ensuring we did not lose momentum for our vision, which is becoming a reality. For example, our vision calls for the focusing of our resources to serving young people in our impact communities with high numbers of low-income youth of color. Prior to our vision less than 60% of our youth served lived in these communities. In contrast, this school year 97% of a total of 6,165 students served were from these communities. This shift significantly increases our impact in communities of highest need. And it is not just an increase in numbers. Over the past year young people and schools from our impact communities have shined in several JA programs and competitions, proving that if we level the playing field for underserved youth they are as capable as others. Lawrence, one of the poorest communities in Massachusetts, is a great case study. Not only have we increased the number of students served in Lawrence from under 50 six years ago to over 3,000 this year, but Lawrence High School students have won several JA competitions, including the JA Stock Market Challenge, JA/CGI Girl IT Challenge, among several others. Our strategic vision is starting to bear fruit and we are excited to replicate the success achieved in Lawrence in our other impact communities. Another key component of our vision is to shift from JA’s traditional K-12 focus to becoming a middle school to career chapter of JA. Prior to our vision, about 30% of youth served were in middle and high school. We now serve mostly middle school and high school students and limit K-5 programs to schools in our impact communities. Again, this is amplifying impact and responds directly to our stakeholders’ input that our mission is most impactful for youth in high school, followed by middle school. Your support of the 24th JA Golf Classic is critical to helping us continue to bring these life-changing programs to the region’s youth. Thank you for your ongoing support. In particular, I want to thank our largest tournament sponsors, Robert Half, Albrecht Auto Group, EY, Delta Air Lines, and People’s United Bank. Special thanks, also, to the Golf Committee, and JA of Greater Boston staff, for their hard work planning today’s tournament for the past months. Lastly, but definitely not least, this year’s JA Golf Classic honors Chip Barnes, who dedicated over 20 years of his life to support JA’s mission and the JA Golf Classic, which has raised over $1 million for JA over the past 24 years. Enjoy the beautiful Black Rock Country Club and thank you for your support!
